The Deaf Hear, the Mute Speak

31 (A)And again He went out from the region of (B)Tyre, and came through Sidon to (C)the Sea of Galilee, within the region of the (D)Decapolis. 32 And they *brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they *pleaded with Him to (E)lay His hand on him. 33 (F)And Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after (G)spitting, He touched his tongue; 34 and looking up to heaven with a (H)sigh, He *said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!” 35 And his ears were opened, and the [a]impediment of his tongue [b]was removed, and he began speaking plainly. 36 And (I)He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He was ordering them, the more widely they (J)continued to proclaim it. 37 And they were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

Jesus Heals a Deaf Man with a Speech Impediment

31 Then Jesus[a] left the territory of Tyre and passed through Sidon towards the Sea of Galilee, in the territory of the Decapolis.[b] 32 Some people[c] brought him a deaf man who also had a speech impediment. They begged him to lay his hand on him. 33 Jesus[d] took him away from the crowd to be alone with him. Putting his fingers into the man’s[e] ears, he touched the man’s[f] tongue with saliva.

34 Then he looked up to heaven, sighed, and told him, “Ephphatha,”[g] that is, “Be opened!” 35 The man’s[h] hearing and speech were restored at once, and he began to talk normally. 36 Jesus[i] ordered the people[j] not to tell anyone, but the more he kept ordering them, the more they kept spreading the news.

37 Amazed beyond measure, they kept on saying, “He does everything well! He even makes deaf people hear and mute people talk!”
