Jesus Speaks Sharp Words to the Leaders (A)
7 The proud religious law-keepers and some of the teachers of the Law had come from Jerusalem. They gathered around Jesus. 2 They had seen some of His followers eat bread without washing their hands. 3 The proud religious law-keepers and all the Jews never eat until they wash their hands. They keep the teaching that was given to them by their early fathers. 4 When they come from the stores, they never eat until they wash. There are many other teachings they keep. Some are the washing of cups and pots and pans in a special way.
5 Then the proud religious law-keepers and the teachers of the Law asked Jesus, “Why do Your followers not obey the teaching given to them by their early fathers? They eat bread without washing their hands.” 6 He said to them, “Isaiah told about you who pretend to be someone you are not. Isaiah wrote, ‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. 7 Their worship of Me is worth nothing. They teach what men say must be done.’ (B) 8 You put away the Laws of God and obey the laws made by men.”
9 Jesus said to them, “You put away the Laws of God but keep your own teaching. 10 Moses said, ‘Respect your father and mother.’ (C) ‘He who curses his father and mother will be put to death!’ (D) 11 But you say that it is right if a man does not help his father and mother because he says he has given to God what he could have given to them. 12 You are not making him do anything for his father and mother. 13 You are putting away the Word of God to keep your own teaching. You are doing many other things like this.”
14 Jesus called the people to Him again. He said, “Listen to Me, all of you, and understand this. 15 It is not what goes into a man’s mouth from the outside that makes his mind and heart sinful. It is what comes out from the inside that makes him sinful. 16 You have ears, then listen!”
17 He went into the house away from all the people. His followers began to ask about the picture-story. 18 He said to them, “Do you not understand yet? Do you not understand that whatever goes into a man cannot make him sinful? 19 It does not go into his heart, but into his stomach and then on out of his body.” In this way, He was saying that all food is clean. 20 He said, “Whatever comes out of a man is what makes the man sinful. 21 From the inside, out of the heart of men come bad thoughts, sex sins of a married person, sex sins of a person not married, killing other people, 22 stealing, wanting something that belongs to someone else, doing wrong, lying, having a desire for sex sins, having a mind that is always looking for sin, speaking against God, thinking you are better than you are and doing foolish things. 23 All these bad things come from the inside and make the man sinful.”
Jesus Puts a Demon out of a Girl (E)
24 Jesus went from their towns and cities to the cities of Tyre and Sidon. He went into a house and wanted to stay there without people knowing where He was. But He could not hide Himself. 25 A woman who had a daughter with a demon heard of Him. She came and got down at His feet. 26 The woman was not a Jew. She was from the country of Syrophenicia. She asked Jesus if He would put the demon out of her daughter. 27 Jesus said to her, “Let the children have what they want first. It is wrong to take children’s food and throw it to the dogs.” 28 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the pieces that fall from the children’s table.” 29 He said to her, “Because of what you have said, go your way. The demon is gone out of your daughter.” 30 So she went to her house and found the demon was gone and her daughter was lying on the bed.
Jesus Heals the Man Who Could Not Hear or Speak Well
31 Then Jesus left the cities of Tyre and Sidon. He came back to the Sea of Galilee by way of the land of Decapolis. 32 They took a man to Him who could not hear or speak well. They asked Jesus to put His hand on him. 33 Jesus took him away from the other people. He put His fingers into the man’s ears. He spit and put His finger on the man’s tongue. 34 Then Jesus looked up to heaven and breathed deep within. He said to the man, “Be opened!” 35 At once his ears were opened. His tongue was made loose and he spoke as other people. 36 Then Jesus told them they should tell no one. The more He told them this, the more they told what He had done. 37 They were very much surprised and wondered about it. They said, “He has done all things well. He makes those who could not hear so they can hear. He makes those who could not speak so they can speak.”

Lo que hace impuro al hombre(A)
7 Se acercaron los fariseos a Jesús, con unos maestros de la ley que habían llegado de Jerusalén. 2 Éstos, al ver que algunos discípulos de Jesús comían con las manos impuras, es decir, sin haber cumplido con la ceremonia de lavárselas, los criticaron. 3 (Porque los fariseos y todos los judíos siguen la tradición de sus antepasados, de no comer sin antes lavarse las manos debidamente. 4 Y cuando regresan del mercado, no comen sin antes cumplir con la ceremonia de lavarse. Y aun tienen otras muchas costumbres, como lavar los vasos, los jarros, las vasijas de metal y las camas.) 5 Por eso, los fariseos y los maestros de la ley le preguntaron:
—¿Por qué tus discípulos no siguen la tradición de nuestros antepasados, sino que comen con las manos impuras?
6 Jesús les contestó:
—Bien habló el profeta Isaías acerca de lo hipócritas que son ustedes, cuando escribió:
“Este pueblo me honra con la boca,
pero su corazón está lejos de mí.
7 De nada sirve que me rinda culto:
sus enseñanzas son mandatos de hombres.”
8 Porque ustedes dejan el mandato de Dios para seguir las tradiciones de los hombres.
9 También les dijo:
—Para mantener sus propias tradiciones, ustedes pasan por alto el mandato de Dios. 10 Pues Moisés dijo: “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre”, y “El que maldiga a su padre o a su madre, será condenado a muerte.” 11 Pero ustedes afirman que un hombre puede decirle a su padre o a su madre: “No puedo ayudarte, porque todo lo que tengo es corbán” (es decir: «ofrecido a Dios»); 12 y también afirman que quien dice esto ya no está obligado a ayudar a su padre o a su madre. 13 De esta manera ustedes anulan la palabra de Dios con esas tradiciones que se trasmiten unos a otros. Y hacen otras muchas cosas parecidas.
14 Luego Jesús llamó a la gente, y dijo:
—Escúchenme todos, y entiendan: 15 Nada de lo que entra de afuera puede hacer impuro al hombre. Lo que sale del corazón del hombre es lo que lo hace impuro.
17 Cuando Jesús dejó a la gente y entró en la casa, sus discípulos le preguntaron sobre esta enseñanza. 18 Él les dijo:
—¿Así que ustedes tampoco lo comprenden? ¿No entienden que nada de lo que entra de afuera puede hacer impuro al hombre, 19 porque no entra en el corazón, sino en el vientre, para después salir del cuerpo?
Con esto quiso decir que todos los alimentos son limpios. 20 Dijo también:
—Lo que sale del hombre, eso sí lo hace impuro. 21 Porque de adentro, es decir, del corazón de los hombres, salen los malos pensamientos, la inmoralidad sexual, los robos, los asesinatos, 22 los adulterios, la codicia, las maldades, el engaño, los vicios, la envidia, los chismes, el orgullo y la falta de juicio. 23 Todas estas cosas malas salen de adentro y hacen impuro al hombre.
La fe de una mujer no judía(B)
24 De allí se dirigió Jesús a la región de Tiro. Entró en una casa, sin querer que nadie lo supiera; pero no pudo esconderse. 25 Pronto supo de él la madre de una muchacha que tenía un espíritu impuro, la cual fue y se arrodilló a los pies de Jesús. 26 La mujer no era judía, sino originaria de Sirofenicia. Fue, pues, y rogó a Jesús que expulsara de su hija al demonio. 27 Pero Jesús le dijo:
—Deja que los hijos coman primero, porque no está bien quitarles el pan a los hijos y dárselo a los perros.
28 Ella le respondió:
—Pero, Señor, hasta los perros comen debajo de la mesa las migajas que dejan caer los hijos.
29 Jesús le dijo:
—Por haber hablado así, vete tranquila. El demonio ya ha salido de tu hija.
30 Cuando la mujer llegó a su casa, encontró a la niña en la cama; el demonio ya había salido de ella.
Jesús sana a un sordo y tartamudo
31 Jesús volvió a salir de la región de Tiro y, pasando por Sidón, llegó al Lago de Galilea, en pleno territorio de Decápolis. 32 Allí le llevaron un sordo y tartamudo, y le pidieron que pusiera su mano sobre él. 33 Jesús se lo llevó a un lado, aparte de la gente, le metió los dedos en los oídos y con saliva le tocó la lengua. 34 Luego, mirando al cielo, suspiró y dijo al hombre: «¡Efatá!» (es decir: «¡Ábrete!»)
35 Al momento, los oídos del sordo se abrieron, y se le desató la lengua y pudo hablar bien. 36 Jesús les mandó que no se lo dijeran a nadie; pero cuanto más se lo mandaba, tanto más lo contaban. 37 Llenos de admiración, decían: «Todo lo hace bien. ¡Hasta puede hacer que los sordos oigan y que los mudos hablen!»

Ang mga Tradisyon(A)
7 Nang sama-samang lumapit sa kanya ang mga Fariseo at ang ilan sa mga eskriba na nanggaling sa Jerusalem,
2 kanilang nakita ang ilan sa kanyang alagad na kumakain ng tinapay na marurumi ang mga kamay, samakatuwid ay hindi hinugasan.
3 (Sapagkat ang mga Fariseo at ang lahat ng mga Judio ay hindi kumakain malibang makapaghugas na mabuti ng mga kamay, na sinusunod ang tradisyon ng matatanda.
4 Kapag nanggaling sila sa palengke, hindi sila kumakain malibang nalinis nila ang kanilang mga sarili. At marami pang ibang bagay ang kanilang sinusunod gaya ng mga paghuhugas ng mga tasa, mga pitsel, at mga lalagyang tanso.)[a]
5 Kaya't siya'y tinanong ng mga Fariseo at mga eskriba, “Bakit ang iyong mga alagad ay hindi lumalakad ayon sa tradisyon ng matatanda, kundi kumakain ng tinapay na marurumi ang mga kamay?”
6 At(B) sinabi niya sa kanila, “Tama ang pahayag ni Isaias tungkol sa inyo na mga mapagkunwari, ayon sa nasusulat,
‘Iginagalang ako ng bayang ito ng kanilang mga labi,
subalit ang kanilang puso ay malayo sa akin.
7 At walang kabuluhan ang pagsamba nila sa akin,
na itinuturo bilang aral ang mga utos ng mga tao!’
8 Iniwan ninyo ang utos ng Diyos at inyong pinanghahawakan ang tradisyon ng mga tao.”
9 Sinabi pa niya sa kanila, “Maganda ang paraan ng inyong pagtanggi sa utos ng Diyos, upang masunod ang inyong mga tradisyon.
10 Sapagkat(C) sinabi ni Moises, ‘Igalang mo ang iyong ama at ang iyong ina,’ at ‘Ang sinumang lumait sa ama o sa ina ay dapat patayin!’
11 Ngunit sinasabi ninyo na kung sabihin ng isang tao sa kanyang ama o ina, ‘Ang anumang tulong na mapapakinabang ninyo sa akin ay Corban, na nangangahulugang handog,’
12 at pagkatapos ay hindi na ninyo siya pinahihintulutang gumawa ng anuman para sa kanyang ama o ina,
13 kaya't pinawawalang kabuluhan ang salita ng Diyos sa pamamagitan ng tradisyon na inyong ipinamana at marami pa kayong ginagawang mga bagay na katulad nito.
Ang Nagpaparumi sa Tao(D)
14 Muli niyang pinalapit ang maraming tao at sinabi sa kanila, “Makinig kayong lahat sa akin at inyong unawain.
15 Walang anumang nasa labas ng tao na pagpasok sa kanya ay nakapagpaparumi sa kanya kundi ang mga bagay na lumalabas sa tao ang nakapagpaparumi sa tao.”
16 [Kung ang sinuman ay may pandinig na ipandirinig ay makinig.]
17 Nang iwan niya ang maraming tao at pumasok siya sa bahay, tinanong siya ng kanyang mga alagad tungkol sa talinghaga.
18 Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Kayo rin ba ay hindi nakakaunawa? Hindi ba ninyo nalalaman, na anumang nasa labas na pumapasok sa tao ay hindi nakapagpaparumi sa kanya,
19 sapagkat hindi ito pumapasok sa kanyang puso kundi sa tiyan, at ito'y inilalabas sa tapunan ng dumi? Sa ganito'y nililinis niya ang lahat ng pagkain.”
20 Sinabi pa niya, “Ang lumalabas sa tao ang nakapagpaparumi sa tao.
21 Sapagkat mula sa loob, mula sa puso ng tao, lumalabas ang masasamang pag-iisip, pakikiapid, pagnanakaw, pagpaslang,
22 ang pangangalunya, kasakiman, kasamaan, pandaraya, kahalayan, pagkainggit, paninirang-puri, kapalaluan, at kahangalan.
23 Ang lahat ng masasamang bagay na ito ay sa loob nagmumula at nakapagpaparumi sa tao.”
Ang Pambihirang Pananampalataya ng Isang Babae(E)
24 Mula roon, tumindig siya at nagtungo sa lupain ng Tiro. Tumuloy siya sa isang bahay at ayaw niyang malaman ng sinuman na nandoon siya. Ngunit hindi nagawang di siya mapansin.
25 Sa halip, may isang babae na ang munting anak na batang babae na may masamang espiritu, na nakabalita tungkol sa kanya ay agad na lumapit at nagpatirapa sa kanyang paanan.
26 Ang babaing ito ay isang Griyego, isang Sirofenisa, ayon sa lahi. Nakiusap siya kay Jesus[b] na palayasin ang demonyo sa kanyang anak na babae.
27 At sinabi niya sa kanya, “Hayaan mo munang mapakain ang mga anak sapagkat hindi marapat na kunin ang tinapay ng mga anak at ihagis ito sa mga aso.”
28 Ngunit siya'y sumagot at sinabi sa kanya, “Panginoon, kahit na ang mga aso sa ilalim ng hapag ay kumakain ng mga nalaglag na pagkain ng mga anak.”
29 Sinabi naman ni Jesus sa kanya, “Dahil sa salitang iyan, makakaalis ka na, lumabas na ang demonyo sa iyong anak.”
30 Umuwi nga siya at nadatnan ang anak na nakahiga sa higaan at wala na ang demonyo.
Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Taong Bingi
31 Pagkatapos, siya'y bumalik mula sa lupain ng Tiro at dumaan sa Sidon patungo sa lawa ng Galilea, na tinahak ang lupain ng Decapolis.
32 Dinala nila sa kanya ang isang bingi at may kapansanan sa pagsasalita, at siya'y pinakiusapan nila na ipatong ang kanyang kamay sa kanya.
33 At siya'y inilayo niya ng bukod mula sa maraming tao at isinuot ang kanyang mga daliri sa kanyang mga tainga. Siya'y dumura at hinipo ang kanyang dila.
34 Pagtingala niya sa langit, siya'y nagbuntong-hininga, at sinabi sa kanya, “Effata,” na nangangahulugang “Mabuksan.”
35 Agad nabuksan ang kanyang mga tainga, nakalag ang tali ng kanyang dila, at siya'y nakapagsalita nang malinaw.
36 Inutusan naman sila ni Jesus na huwag nilang sabihin ito kaninuman; ngunit habang lalo niyang ipinagbabawal sa kanila, lalo namang masigasig nilang ipinamamalita ito.
37 Sila'y labis na namangha na nagsasabi, “Mabuti ang pagkagawa niya sa lahat ng mga bagay; kanya pang ginagawang makarinig ang bingi at pinapagsasalita ang pipi.”

That Which Defiles(A)
7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,(B) that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.(C) 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a])(D)
5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders(E) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’[b](F)
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(G)
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions!(H) 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d](I) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e](J) 11 But you say(K) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God(L) by your tradition(M) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f]
17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him(N) about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods(O) clean.)(P)
20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed,(Q) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith(R)
24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[g](S) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit(T) came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
27 “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
29 Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man(U)
31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre(V) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee(W) and into the region of the Decapolis.[h](X) 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,(Y) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on(Z) him.
33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit(AA) and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven(AB) and with a deep sigh(AC) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(AD)
36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.(AE) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
