¹³ Therefore the Lord said:

²⁶ If anyone ^[a]among you thinks he is religious, and ^(A)does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

²² which all concern things which perish with the using—^(A)according to the commandments and doctrines of men?

⁷ And when you pray, ^(A)do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. ^(B)For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Avoid Dissension

⁹ But ^(A)avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.

The Great Apostasy

4 Now the Spirit ^[a]expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed ^(A)to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, ^2 (B)speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience ^(C)seared with a hot iron, ³ forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

A Warning

^18 [a]For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: ^(A)If anyone adds to these things, ^[b]God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;

²¹ And ^(A)do not turn aside; ^(B)for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing.
