⁴ and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash.^[a] And there are many other traditions that they observe, such as ^(A)the washing of ^(B)cups and pots and copper vessels and dining couches.^[b])

¹⁰ but deal only with ^(A)food and drink and ^(B)various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.

^25 (A)“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ^(B)you clean the outside of ^(C)the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of ^(D)greed and self-indulgence.

^8 (A)Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. ^(B)Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and ^(C)purify your hearts, ^(D)you double-minded.

⁶ Now there were six stone water jars there ^(A)for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty ^(B)gallons.^[a]

³⁸ The Pharisee was astonished to see ^(A)that he did not first wash before dinner. ³⁹ And the Lord said to him, ^(B)“Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of ^(C)greed and wickedness.

⁷ But ^(A)if we walk in the light, ^(B)as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and ^(C)the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
