The Syrophoenician Woman's Faith

²⁴And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon.^[a] And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. ²⁵But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. ²⁶Now the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. ²⁷And he said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs.” ²⁸But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs.” ²⁹And he said to her, “For this statement you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” ³⁰And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.

Jesus Heals a Deaf Man

³¹Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. ³²And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. ³³And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. ³⁴And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” ³⁵And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. ³⁶And Jesus^[b] charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. ³⁷And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Restore Us, O God

To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. A Testimony. Of Asaph, a Psalm.

80 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth.
²    Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
stir up your might
    and come to save us!

³Restore us,^[a] O God;
let your face shine, that we may be saved!

⁴O Lord God of hosts,
    how long will you be angry with your people's prayers?
⁵You have fed them with the bread of tears
    and given them tears to drink in full measure.
⁶You make us an object of contention for our neighbors,
    and our enemies laugh among themselves.

⁷Restore us, O God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved!

⁸You brought a vine out of Egypt;
    you drove out the nations and planted it.
⁹You cleared the ground for it;
    it took deep root and filled the land.
¹⁰The mountains were covered with its shade,
    the mighty cedars with its branches.
¹¹It sent out its branches to the sea
    and its shoots to the River.^[b]
¹²Why then have you broken down its walls,
    so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
¹³The boar from the forest ravages it,
    and all that move in the field feed on it.

¹⁴Turn again, O God of hosts!
    Look down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
¹⁵    the stock that your right hand planted,
    and for the son whom you made strong for yourself.
¹⁶They have burned it with fire; they have cut it down;
    may they perish at the rebuke of your face!
¹⁷But let your hand be on the man of your right hand,
    the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!
¹⁸Then we shall not turn back from you;
    give us life, and we will call upon your name!
