¹⁵ There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that ^(A)defile a man.

^15 (A)To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.

⁴² Whatever crawls on its belly, whatever goes on all fours, or whatever has many feet among all creeping things that creep on the earth—these you shall not eat, for they are an abomination. ^43 (A)You shall not make ^[a]yourselves ^[b]abominable with any creeping thing that creeps; nor shall you make yourselves unclean with them, lest you be defiled by them. ⁴⁴ For I am the Lord your ^(B)God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and ^(C)you shall be holy; for I am holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth. ^45 (D)For I am the Lord who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. ^(E)You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

⁴⁶ ‘This is the law ^[c]of the animals and the birds and every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth, ^47 (F)to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the animal that may be eaten and the animal that may not be eaten.’ ”

⁹ Do not be carried ^[a]about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.

^34 (A)Brood^[a] of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? ^(B)For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

^17 (A)for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and ^(B)peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ So He said to them, ^(A)“Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, ¹⁹ because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, ^[a]thus purifying all foods?” ²⁰ And He said, ^(B)“What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. ^21 (C)For from within, out of the heart of men, ^(D)proceed evil thoughts, ^(E)adulteries, ^(F)fornications, murders, ²² thefts, ^(G)covetousness, wickedness, ^(H)deceit, ^(I)lewdness, an evil eye, ^(J)blasphemy, ^(K)pride, foolishness. ²³ All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
