6 And he went out from thence, and went into his own country; and his disciples followed him.
2 And when the sabbath was come, Jesus began to teach in a synagogue. And many heard him, and wondered in his teaching, and said, Of whence cometh to this [man] all these things? and what is the wisdom that is given to him, and such works of power which be made by his hands? [And the sabbath made, he began to teach in a synagogue. And many hearing wondered in his teaching, saying, Of whence be all these things to this man? and what is the wisdom which is given to him, and such virtues that be made by his hands?]
3 Whether this is not a carpenter [Whether this is not the smith, or carpenter], the son of Mary, the brother of James and of Joseph and of Judas and of Simon? whether [and] his sisters be not here with us? And they were offended in him.
4 And Jesus said to them, That a prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his kin, and in his house.
5 And he might not do there any work of power [any virtue], save that he healed a few sick men, laying on them his hands.
6 And he wondered for the unbelief of them. And he went about castles on each side, and taught [And he went about castles in compass, teaching].
7 And he called together twelve, and began to send them by two together [and began to send them by twain and twain]; and gave to them power of unclean spirits,
8 and commanded them, that they should not take any thing in the way, but a staff only, not a scrip, nor bread [but a rod only, not a scrip, not bread], neither money in the girdle,
9 but shod with sandals, and that they should not be clothed with two coats.
10 And he said to them, Whither ever [Where ever] ye enter into an house, dwell ye there, till ye go out from thence.
11 And whoever receive you not [And whoever shall not receive], nor hear you, go ye out from thence, and shake away the powder from your feet, into witnessing to them.
12 And they went forth, and preached, that men should do penance. [And they going out, preached, that men should do penance.]
13 And they casted out many fiends [And they cast out many fiends], and anointed with oil many sick men, and they were healed.
14 And king Herod heard, for his name was made open, and he said, That John Baptist hath risen again from death, and therefore works of power work in him [and he said, For John Baptist hath risen again from dead men, and therefore virtues work in him].
15 Others said, That it is Elias; but others said, That it is a prophet, as one of the prophets.
16 And when this thing was heard, Herod said, This is John, whom I have beheaded, he is risen again from death [this hath risen from dead men].
17 For that Herod sent (for), and held John, and bound him into prison, for Herodias, the wife of Philip, his brother; for he had wedded her.
18 For John said to Herod, It is not leaveful to thee, to have the wife of thy brother.
19 And Herodias laid ambush to him [Herodias forsooth setted treason to him], and would slay him, and might not.
20 And Herod dreaded John, and knew him a just man and holy, and kept him. And Herod heard him, and he did many things, and gladly heard him. [Soothly Herod dreaded John, witting him a just man and holy, and kept him. And him heard, he did many things, and heard him gladly.]
21 And when an opportune day was fallen [And when a covenable day had fallen], Herod in his birthday made a supper to the princes, and tribunes, and to the greatest of Galilee [and to the first, or greatest, of Galilee].
22 And when the daughter of that Herodias was come in, and danced, and pleased to Herod, and also to men that sat at the meat [and pleased Herod, and also men sitting at the meat], the king said to the damsel, Ask thou of me what thou wilt, and I shall give to thee.
23 And he swore to her, That whatever thou [shalt] ask, I shall give to thee, though it be the half of my kingdom.
24 And when she had gone out, she said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John Baptist [And she said, The head of John the Baptist].
25 And when she was come in at once with haste to the king, she asked, and said, I will that at once thou give to me in a dish the head of John Baptist. [And when she had entered anon with haste to the king, she asked, saying, I will that anon thou give to me in a dish the head of John Baptist.]
26 And the king was sorry for the oath, and for men that sat together at the meat he would not make her sorry [and for men sitting together at the meat he would not make her heavy, or sorry];
27 but he sent a man-queller and commanded, that John's head were brought in a dish [but a man-queller sent, he commanded the head of John Baptist to be brought]. And he beheaded him in the prison,
28 and brought his head in a dish, and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother.
29 And when this thing was heard, his disciples came, and took his body, and laid it in a burial.
30 And the apostles came together to Jesus, and told to him all things, that they had done, and taught. [And the apostles coming together to Jesus, told him all things, that they had done, and taught.]
31 And he said to them, Come ye by yourselves into a desert place; and rest ye a little. For there were many that came, and went again, and they had not space [for] to eat.
32 And they went into a boat, and went into a desert place by themselves.
33 And they saw them go away [And they saw them going away], and many knew, and they went afoot from all cities, and ran [together] thither, and came before them.
34 And Jesus went out, and saw much people, and had ruth on them [And Jesus going out saw much people, and had mercy on them], for they were as sheep not having a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.
35 And when it was late in the day, his disciples came to him, and said, This is a desert place, and the time is now passed [and now the hour hath passed];
36 let them go into the next towns and villages, to buy them(selves) meat to eat. [leave them, that they going into the next towns and villages, buy to them meats that they shall eat.]
37 And he answered, and said to them, Give ye them to eat [Give ye to them for to eat]. And they said to him, Go we, and buy we loaves with two hundred pence, and we shall give them [for] to eat.
38 And he saith to them, How many loaves have ye? Go ye, and see. And when they had known, they say, Five, and two fishes.
39 And he commanded to them, that they should make all men sit to meat by companies, on [the] green hay[a].
40 And they sat down by parts [And they sat down by parties], by hundreds, and by fifties.
41 And when he had taken the five loaves, and two fishes, he beheld into heaven, and blessed, and brake [the] loaves, and gave to his disciples, that they should set before them. And he parted two fishes to all;
42 and all ate, and were fulfilled. [and all men ate, and were filled.]
43 And they took the remnants of broken meats, twelve baskets full [And they took the reliefs of broken meat, twelve coffins full], and of the fishes.
44 And they that ate, were five thousand of men.
45 And at once he made his disciples to go up into a boat, to pass before him over the sea to Bethsaida, while he let go the people. [And anon he constrained his disciples to ascend into a boat, that they should go before him over the sea to Bethsaida, while he left the people.]
46 And when he had let them go [And when he had left them], he went into an high hill, to pray.
47 And when it was even, the boat was in the middle of the sea[b], and he alone in the land;
48 and he saw them travailing in rowing; for the wind was contrary to them. And about the fourth waking of the night, he wandering on the sea, came to them, and would pass them.
49 And as they saw him wandering on the sea, they guessed that it were a phantom, and cried out;
50 for all saw him, and they were afraid [for all saw him, and were troubled]. And at once [And anon] he spake with them, and said to them, Trust ye, I am; do not ye dread.
51 And he came up to them into the boat, and the wind ceased. And they wondered more within themselves [And they more wondered within themselves];
52 for they understood not of the loaves; for their heart was blinded.
53 And when they were passed over the sea, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and setted to land. [And when they had passed over the sea, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and set to land.]
54 And when they were gone out of the boat, at once [anon] they knew him.
55 And they ran through all that country, and began to bring sick men in beds on each side, where they heard that he was. [And they running through all that country, began to bear about in beds them that had evil, where they heard him to be.]
56 And whither ever he entered into villages, or into towns, or into cities, they set sick men in streets, and prayed him, that they should touch namely the hem of his cloak[c]; and how many that touched him, were made safe.

Folket i Nasaret nekter å tro
6 Etter dette utrolige miraklet dro Jesus fra stedet og kom til hjembyen sin Nasaret, sammen med disiplene. 2 Da det ble hviledag[a], gikk han til synagogen[b] for å undervise, og mange ble overrasket over visdommen hans, og de miraklene han gjorde med folk som han la hendene på.
”Hvor har han alt dette fra?” sa de. 3 ”Han er jo bare en vanlig snekker, Maria sin sønn, bror til Jakob, Joses, Judas og Simon, og søstrene hans bor også midt iblant oss.” Mange ble irriterte og sinte på ham.
4 Da sa Jesus: ”En profet som bringer Guds budskap, blir anerkjent over alt, bortsett fra i sin egen hjemby, blant sine slektninger og i sin egen familie.” 5 Etter som folket i Nasaret ikke trodde på ham, kunne han ikke gjøre noen mirakler der. Han helbredet bare noen få syke ved å legge hendene på dem. 6 Han var forskrekket over at folket ikke ville tro på ham.
Jesus sender ut sine tolv disipler
Noe seinere dro Jesus rundt i byene i distriktet og underviste. 7 Han kalte til seg sine tolv disipler og sendte dem ut to og to og ga dem makt til å drive ut onde ånder. 8-9 Han sa til dem at de ikke skulle ta med seg noe annet på veien enn sin vandringsstav. De fikk ikke ta med mat, ingen veske, ingen penger, og ikke ekstra sko eller klær.
10 ”Når dere blir tilbudt å overnatte hos noen, stans da hos dem til dere skal fortsette til neste by”, sa han. 11 ”Dersom folket på et sted ikke vil ta imot dere eller høre på dere, gå da bare videre og ikke vær mer bekymret for dem. Rist støvet fra dette stedet av føttene som et tegn på at innbyggerne selv må ta ansvaret for det de har gjort.”
12 Disiplene gikk nå av sted. Over alt der de kom, oppfordret de folket til å forlate syndens vei og vende om til Gud. 13 De drev ut mange onde ånder og salvet mange syke med olje[c] og helbredet dem.
Døperen Johannes dør
14 Snart fikk også kong Herodes høre snakk om Jesus, etter som ryktet om ham spredde seg over alt. Folk sa: ”Det er døperen Johannes som har stått opp fra de døde. Det er derfor han kan gjøre slike mirakler.” 15 Men noen sa: ”Jesus er Elia[d].” Andre sa: ”Han er virkelig en profet som bringer Guds budskap, akkurat som profetene[e] før i tiden.”
16 ”Nei”, sa Herodes, ”det er Johannes, han som jeg lot halshugge. Han har stått opp fra de døde.”
17 Herodes hadde nemlig arrestert Johannes og latt ham binde og kaste i fengsel. Grunn til dette var kona til Herodes som het Herodias. Hun hadde først vært gift med Filip, som var bror til kongen. Til tross for dette hadde likevel Herodes giftet seg med henne. 18 Johannes hadde sagt rett ut til ham: ”Det er ikke tillatt for deg å leve sammen med kona til din bror.” 19 Derfor hatet Herodias ham og ville drepe Johannes, men Herodes var imot dette. 20 Innerst inne hadde han respekt for Johannes og ville beskytte ham, for han visste at Johannes var en god mann som levde etter Guds vilje. Hvert gang han hørte Johannes, kjente han seg usikker og visste ikke riktig hva han skulle tro. Han lyttet gjerne til det Johannes hadde å si.
21 Til slutt fikk i alle fall Herodias sin sjanse. Herodes feiret sin fødselsdag og stilte opp med en fest for hoffolket, offiserene og de fremste mennene i Galilea. 22 Og mens festen pågikk, kom datteren til Herodias inn og danset.
Kong Herodes og gjestene hans ble svært begeistret, og kongen sa til jenta: ”Be meg om hva du vil, og jeg skal gi deg det.” 23 Og så sverget han i påhør av gjestene og gjentok: ”Ja, hva du så enn ber om, det skal du få, om det så er halvdelen av mitt rike.”
24 Hun gikk da ut og spurte moren sin hva hun skulle be om. Moren svarte: ”Be om døperen Johannes sitt hode!”
25 Jenten skyndte seg tilbake til kongen og sa: ”Jeg vil ha hodet til døperen Johannes på et fat, nå straks!”
26 Kongen ble svært lei deg, men på grunn av løftet sitt, og etter som han ikke ville ta tilbake det han hadde sagt i påhør av gjestene, lot han henne få det som hun ville. 27 Han ga derfor befaling til en av livvaktene sine om å gå for å hente døperen Johannes sitt hode. Mannen gikk av sted til fengslet og halshogg Johannes 28 og kom tilbake med hodet hans på et fat. Han ga det til jenta, som i sin tur bar det til moren sin. 29 Da disiplene til Johannes hørte det som hadde skjedd, kom de og hentet kroppen hans og begravde Johannes.
Jesus gir mat til mer enn 5 000 personer
30 De tolv disiplene som Jesus hadde sendt ut, kom nå tilbake fra reisene sine. De rapporterte om alt det de hadde gjort og undervist folket om. 31 Etter som det var så mye folk rundt dem at de ikke fikk tid til å spise, foreslo Jesus: ”Kom så trekker vi oss bort til et øde sted der dere kan hvile dere litt.” 32 Og de dro sin vei med båt til et øde sted.
33 Mange så at de reiste sin vei og skyndte seg til fots rundt sjøen. Der møtte de Jesus igjen da han steg i land på andre siden. 34 Jesus steg ut av båten og fikk se alle menneskene som hadde samlet seg. Han fikk medfølelse med dem, for de var som sauer uten gjeter. Derfor tok han seg tid og underviste dem lenge og vel om det de så sårt trengte å vite.
35-36 Fram mot kvelden kom disiplene til ham og sa: ”Det er allerede seint, og det finnes ikke noe å spise her i ødemarken. Send folket av sted, slik at de kan gå til byene og gårdene i nærheten og kjøpe mat.”
37 Men Jesus sa: ”Dere kan selv gi dem mat!”
”Hvordan da?” spurte disiplene. ”Det ville jo koste en formue[f] å kjøpe mat til alle sammen.”
38 ”Hvor mye mat har dere?” spurte han. ”Gå og se etter.”
De kom tilbake og rapporterte at det var fem brød og to fisker. 39-40 Jesus ba dem da å si til folket at de skulle sette seg ned i grupper på 50 eller 100 personer der det var grønt gress på bakken.
41 Han tok de fem brødene og de to fiskene, så opp mot himmelen og takket Gud for maten. Etterpå brøt han brødene i biter og ga hver av disiplene litt brød og fisk, som de igjen skulle gi videre til folket. 42 Alle spiste og ble mette. 43 Til slutt samlet de opp tolv kurver fulle med brød og fisk. 44 Det var 5 000 menn som hadde spist, og i tillegg kom kvinnene og barna.
Jesus går på vannet
45 Straks etter dette ba Jesus disiplene om å sette seg i båten og dra i forveien til Betsaida på den andre siden av sjøen. Selv stanset han igjen for å se at folket begynte på hjemveien. 46 Da han hadde fått folket av sted, gikk han opp på et fjell for å be.
47 Utpå kvelden var disiplene fortsatt langt ute på sjøen i båten sin. Jesus, som nå var alene på land, 48 så hvordan de slet med årene etter som de hadde fått motvind.
Like før det begynte å lysne kom Jesus gående mot disiplene på vannet. 49 Men da de så ham gå på vannet, skrek de av redsel. De trodde det var et spøkelse. 50 Alle så Jesus og ble livredde.
Jesus snakket straks til dem og sa: ”Ro dere ned, det er meg. Vær ikke redde.” 51 Så steg han opp i båten til dem, og i samme øyeblikk la vinden seg.
Disiplene var helt forundret. 52 De hadde ennå ikke fattet hvem Jesus var og hadde vanskelig for å tro til tross for det store miraklet kvelden før, da hele folket hadde fått brød å spise.
Jesus helbreder alle som rører ved ham
53 Da Jesus og disiplene hadde dratt over sjøen, kom de til Gennesaret og gikk i land. 54 Så snart de steg ut av båten, kjente folket Jesus igjen. 55 De sprang rundt i hele området for å spre nyheten om at han var der. Folk begynte å bære syke mennesker som lå på liggematter til stedene der de hørte at Jesus befant seg. 56 Ja, over alt der han kom, på småsteder, byer og gårder, bar de ut i fri luft dem som var syke og ba om at de syke i det minste kunne få røre ved dusken ytterst på kappen hans. Og alle som gjorde det, ble friske!

Sending Out the Twelve(K)

John the Baptist Beheaded(S)
14 (T)Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore (U)these powers are at work in him.”
15 (V)Others said, “It is Elijah.”
And others said, “It is [c]the Prophet, (W)or like one of the prophets.”
16 (X)But when Herod heard, he said, “This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!” 17 For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her. 18 Because John had said to Herod, (Y)“It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”

24 So she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?”
And she said, “The head of John the Baptist!”
25 Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26 (AD)And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her. 27 Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison, 28 brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard of it, they came and (AE)took away his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
Feeding the Five Thousand(AF)
30 (AG)Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. 31 (AH)And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For (AI)there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 (AJ)So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.
33 But [f]the multitudes saw them departing, and many (AK)knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him. 34 (AL)And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like (AM)sheep not having a shepherd. So (AN)He began to teach them many things. 35 (AO)When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late. 36 Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves [g]bread; for they have nothing to eat.”
37 But He answered and said to them, “You give them something to eat.”
And they said to Him, (AP)“Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
38 But He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”
And when they found out they said, (AQ)“Five, and two fish.”
39 Then He (AR)commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. 41 And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He (AS)looked up to heaven, (AT)blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all. 42 So they all ate and were filled. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. 44 Now those who had eaten the loaves were [h]about five thousand men.
Jesus Walks on the Sea(AU)
45 (AV)Immediately He [i]made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away. 46 And when He had sent them away, He (AW)departed to the mountain to pray. 47 Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. 48 Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and (AX)would have passed them by. 49 And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a (AY)ghost, and cried out; 50 for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, (AZ)“Be[j] of good cheer! It is I; do not be (BA)afraid.” 51 Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind (BB)ceased. And they were greatly (BC)amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled. 52 For (BD)they had not understood about the loaves, because their (BE)heart was hardened.
Many Touch Him and Are Made Well(BF)
53 (BG)When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. 54 And when they came out of the boat, immediately [k]the people recognized Him, 55 ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. 56 Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that (BH)they might just touch the (BI)hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.

A Prophet Without Honor(A)
6 Jesus left there and went to his hometown,(B) accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came,(C) he began to teach in the synagogue,(D) and many who heard him were amazed.(E)
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon?(F) Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.(G)
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”(H) 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on(I) a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(J)
Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.(K) 7 Calling the Twelve to him,(L) he began to send them out two by two(M) and gave them authority over impure spirits.(N)
8 These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9 Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. 10 Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet(O) as a testimony against them.”
12 They went out and preached that people should repent.(P) 13 They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil(Q) and healed them.
John the Baptist Beheaded(R)(S)
14 King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying,[b] “John the Baptist(T) has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”
15 Others said, “He is Elijah.”(U)
And still others claimed, “He is a prophet,(V) like one of the prophets of long ago.”(W)
16 But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised from the dead!”
17 For Herod himself had given orders to have John arrested, and he had him bound and put in prison.(X) He did this because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, whom he had married. 18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”(Y) 19 So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she was not able to, 20 because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man.(Z) When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled[c]; yet he liked to listen to him.
21 Finally the opportune time came. On his birthday Herod gave a banquet(AA) for his high officials and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.(AB) 22 When the daughter of[d] Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests.
The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.” 23 And he promised her with an oath, “Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”(AC)
24 She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?”
“The head of John the Baptist,” she answered.
25 At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26 The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her. 27 So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison, 28 and brought back his head on a platter. He presented it to the girl, and she gave it to her mother. 29 On hearing of this, John’s disciples came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand(AD)(AE)
30 The apostles(AF) gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.(AG) 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat,(AH) he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
32 So they went away by themselves in a boat(AI) to a solitary place. 33 But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.(AJ) So he began teaching them many things.
35 By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. 36 Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
37 But he answered, “You give them something to eat.”(AK)
They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages[e]! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”
38 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.”
When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”(AL)
39 Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.(AM) Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. 42 They all ate and were satisfied, 43 and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. 44 The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.
Jesus Walks on the Water(AN)(AO)
45 Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat(AP) and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida,(AQ) while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.(AR)
47 Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. 48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost.(AS) They cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified.
Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”(AT) 51 Then he climbed into the boat(AU) with them, and the wind died down.(AV) They were completely amazed, 52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.(AW)
53 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there.(AX) 54 As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. 55 They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak,(AY) and all who touched it were healed.
