6 1 And He went out from there.
Jesus Teaches In His Hometown Synagogue. They Are Astounded But Unbelieving
And He comes into His hometown[a]. And His disciples are following Him. 2 And having become Sabbath, He began to teach in the synagogue. And while listening, many were astounded, saying “From where did these things come to this One? And what is the wisdom having been given to this One? And such miracles taking place by His hands! 3 Is this One not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Jude[b] and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” And they were taking-offense[c] at Him. 4 And Jesus was saying to them that “A prophet is not without-honor except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his house”. 5 And He was not able to do any miracle there— except, having laid His hands on a few sick ones, He cured them. 6 And He was marveling because of their unbelief.
The Twelve Are Sent Out Two By Two To Proclaim Repentance And Heal The Sick
And He was going-around the villages in a circle, teaching. 7 And He summons the twelve, and began to send them out two by two. And He was giving them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 And He instructed them that they should be taking nothing for the journey except a staff [d] only— no bread, no [traveler’s] bag, no money[e] for the [money] belt— 9 but should go having [merely] tied-on sandals. “And do not put on two tunics[f]”. 10 And He was saying to them, “Wherever you enter into a house, be staying there until you go forth from-that-place[g]. 11 And whatever place does not welcome you, nor do they listen-to you— while proceeding out from-that-place, shake-out the dirt under your feet for a testimony against them”. 12 And having gone forth, they proclaimed that they should repent. 13 And they were casting out many demons. And they were anointing[h] many sick ones with oil and curing them.
Herod Hears of Jesus And Thinks John The Baptist Arose From The Dead
14 And King Herod[i] heard [of Him], for His name became known. And they[j] were saying that “John, the one baptizing, has arisen from the dead. And for this reason the miraculous-powers[k] are at-work in Him”. 15 And others were saying that “He is Elijah”. And others were saying that “He is a prophet like one of the [former] prophets”. 16 But having heard, Herod was saying, “John whom I beheaded— this one arose”.
For Herod Had Beheaded John The Baptist
17 For Herod himself, having sent out men, seized John and bound[l] him in prison because of Herodias[m], the wife of Philip his brother— because he married her. 18 For John was saying to Herod that “It is not lawful for you to have the wife of your brother”. 19 And Herodias was hostile[n] to him and wanting to kill him, and was not being able. 20 For Herod was fearing John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man. And he was protecting him. And having heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and-yet he was listening-to him with-pleasure. 21 And an opportune[o] day having come about when Herod, for his birthday-celebrations, made a banquet for his princes[p] and the commanders[q] and the leading[r] ones of Galilee, 22 and his[s] daughter Herodias[t] having come in and danced— she pleased Herod, and the ones reclining-back-with him [to eat]. The king said to the girl[u], “Ask me whatever you wish and I will give it to you”. 23 And he swore-with-an-oath to her solemnly, “Whatever thing you ask me, I will give it to you— up to half of my kingdom”. 24 And having gone out, she said to her mother, “What should I ask-for?” And the one said, “The head of John, the one baptizing”. 25 And having immediately gone in with haste to the king, she asked, saying “I want you to give me at-once on a platter the head of John the Baptist”. 26 And the king, having become deeply-grieved, did not want to reject her because of the oaths and the ones reclining-back [to eat]. 27 And immediately having sent-out an executioner[v], the king commanded him to bring his head. And having gone, he beheaded him in the prison. 28 And he brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl. And the girl gave it to her mother. 29 And his disciples, having heard-of it, came and took away his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
Jesus Multiplies Five Loaves And Two Fish To Feed 5000 Men
30 And the apostles are gathered-together with Jesus. And they reported to Him all that they did and that they taught. 31 And He says to them, “Come, you yourselves privately, to a desolate[w] place, and rest a little”. For the ones coming and the ones going were many, and they were not even finding-an-opportunity[x] to eat. 32 And they went away privately in the boat to a desolate place. 33 And they[y] saw them going, and many knew[z] where. And they ran there together on foot from all the cities. And they came-ahead-of [aa] them. 34 And having gone[ab] out, He saw a large crowd and felt-deep-feelings [of compassion] toward them because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. And He began to teach them many things. 35 And already having become a late hour, having come to Him, His disciples were saying that “This place is desolate, and it is already a late hour. 36 Send them away in order that having gone away into the surrounding farms and villages, they may buy themselves what they may eat”. 37 But the One, having responded, said to them, “You give them something to eat”. And they say to Him, “Should we, having gone away, buy loaves worth two-hundred denarii[ac] and give them something to eat?” 38 And the One says to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go, see!” And having come-to-know, they say “Five, and two fish”. 39 And He commanded them to make everyone lie-back party by party on the green[ad] grass. 40 And they fell-back grouping by grouping, by hundreds and by fifties. 41 And having taken the five loaves and the two fish, having looked up to heaven, He blessed them[ae], and broke the loaves in pieces, and was giving them to His disciples in order that they might be setting it before them. And He divided the two fish to everyone. 42 And they all ate and were filled-to-satisfaction. 43 And they picked up fragments— the fillings of twelve baskets, and from the fish. 44 And the ones having eaten the loaves were five-thousand men[af].
Jesus Walks Across The Raging Sea
45 And immediately, He compelled[ag] His disciples to get into the boat, and to be going ahead to the other side, toward[ah] Bethsaida, while He sends-away the crowd. 46 And having said-good-bye to them[ai], He went away on the mountain to pray. 47 And having become evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea and He was alone on the land. 48 And having seen them being tormented[aj] in the rowing— for the wind was contrary to them— He comes to them around the fourth watch[ak] of the night, walking on the sea. And He was intending[al] to pass-by them. 49 But the ones, having seen Him walking on the sea, thought that “It is a phantom[am]”, and cried-out. 50 For they all saw Him and were frightened. But immediately the One spoke with them. And He says to them, “Take-courage, I am[an] the One. Do not be afraid[ao]”. 51 And He went up with them in the boat. And the wind stopped. And they were very exceedingly astonished in themselves. 52 For they did not understand[ap] on the basis of the loaves-of-bread, but their heart had been hardened.
In Gennesaret The People Recognize Him And Bring All Their Sick To Him For Healing
53 And having crossed-over, they came on land in Gennesaret and moored. 54 And they having gone out of the boat— immediately having recognized Him, 55 the people ran around that whole region. And they began to carry around the ones being ill on their cots to-where they were hearing that He was. 56 And wherever He was entering— into villages, or into cities, or into fields— they were laying the ones being sick in the marketplaces, and were begging Him that they might touch even[aq] the tassel of His garment. And all who touched it were being restored[ar].

6 예수님이 그 곳을 떠나 고향으로 가시자 제자들도 따라갔다.
2 안식일이 되어 예수님은 회당에서 가르치셨다. 많은 사람들이 듣고 놀라며 이렇게 말하였다. “저 사람이 이 모든 것을 어디서 얻었을까? 저 사람의 이런 지혜와 [a]놀라운 힘이 어떻게 해서 생긴 것이냐?
3 저 사람은 마리아의 아들 목수이며 야고보와 요셉과 유다와 시몬의 형제가 아니냐? 저 사람의 누이동생들도 우리와 함께 여기 있지 않느냐?” 그러고서 그들은 예수님을 배척하였다.
4 신예수님은 “예언자가 고향과 친척과 자기 집에서는 존경을 받지 못한다” 하시고
5 거기서는 아무 기적도 베풀 수가 없어서 병자 몇 사람에게만 손을 얹어 고쳐 주셨다.
6 예수님은 그들이 자기를 믿지 않는 것을 보고 놀라시지 않을 수 없었다. 그 후 예수님은 여러 마을을 다니며 가르치셨다.
7 그리고 예수님은 열두 제자를 불러 둘씩 짝지어 보내시며 더러운 귀신을 쫓아내는 권능을 주시고
8 그들에게 이렇게 명령하셨다. “여행하는 데 필요한 지팡이 외에는 아무것도 가지고 가지 말아라. 식량이나 가방이나 돈도 가지고 가지 말고
9 신발만 신고 여분의 옷도 껴입지 말아라.”
10 예수님은 다시 말씀하셨다. “어느 마을에 들어가든지 거기서 떠날 때까지 너희는 한집에서 머물러라.
11 어느 곳에서든지 사람들이 너희를 영접하지 않고 너희 말도 듣지 않거든 그 곳을 떠날 때 신발에 묻은 먼지를 떨어 그들에 대한 증거를 삼아라.”
12 그래서 제자들은 나가서 회개하라고 전도하며
13 많은 귀신을 쫓아내고 여러 병자에게 기름을 발라 고쳐 주었다.
요한의 죽음
14 예수님의 소문이 널리 퍼져 마침내 헤롯왕의 귀에까지 들어갔다. 사람들은 “죽은 [b]세례 요한이 다시 살아났다! 그래서 그가 기적을 행하는 이런 능력을 소유하게 되었다” 하고 말하였다.
15 어떤 사람은 그를 엘리야라고 말하고 또 어떤 사람은 옛날의 예언자와 같은 분이라고 하였으나
16 헤롯은 듣고 “내가 목 베어 죽인 요한이 다시 살아났다” 하였다.
17 헤롯은 전에 자기 동생 빌립의 아내 헤로디아와 결혼한 일로 요한을 잡아 가둔 일이 있었다.
18 그것은 요한이 헤롯에게 “동생의 아내와 결혼한 것은 잘못입니다” 하고 말했기 때문이었다.
19-20 그래서 헤로디아는 요한에게 앙심을 품고 그를 죽이려 하였으나 헤롯이 요한을 의롭고 거룩한 사람으로 여겨 두려워하며 보호하기 때문에 뜻을 이루지 못하였다. 헤롯은 요한의 말을 들을 때 몹시 괴로워하면서도 그의 말을 즐겨 듣곤 하였다.
21 마침 헤로디아에게 좋은 기회가 왔다. 헤롯이 자기 생일에 고관들과 [c]고위 군 지휘관들과 갈릴리의 귀빈들을 초대하여 잔치를 베풀었다.
22 그 자리에 헤로디아의 딸이 들어와 춤을 춰서 헤롯과 참석한 손님들을 즐겁게 하자 왕은 소녀에게 “네 소원이 무엇인지 말해 보아라.
23 내 나라의 절반이라도 주겠다” 하고 약속하였다.
24 소녀가 나가서 자기 어머니에게 “무엇을 요구할까요?” 하고 묻자 그녀는 “[d]세례 요한의 머리를 달라고 하여라” 하고 대답하였다.
25 그래서 소녀는 급히 왕에게 가서 “세례 요한의 머리를 쟁반에 담아 지금 곧 제게 주십시오” 하였다.
26 왕은 몹시 괴로워하면서도 자기가 한 약속과 잔치 자리에 앉아 있는 손님들 때문에 소녀의 요구를 거절하고 싶지 않았다.
27 왕이 즉시 사형 집행인을 보내며 요한의 목을 베어 오라고 명령하자 그는 감옥에 가서 요한의 목을 베어
28 그 머리를 쟁반에 담아다가 소녀에게 주었으며 소녀는 그것을 자기 어머니에게 갖다 주었다.
29 요한의 제자들은 이 소식을 듣고 시체를 가져다가 장사하였다.
예수님이 5,000명을 먹이심
30 한편 사도들이 돌아와 자기들이 행하고 가르친 모든 일을 예수님께 보고하였다.
31 그때 예수님은 그들에게 “외딴 곳으로 같이 가서 잠시 쉬도록 하자” 하고 말씀하셨다. 이것은 오고 가는 사람이 너무 많아 식사할 겨를도 없었기 때문이었다.
32 그래서 예수님의 일행은 배를 타고 조용한 곳으로 떠났다.
33 그러나 그들이 떠나는 것을 본 많은 사람들이 예수님의 일행인 줄 알고 여러 마을에서 나와 육로로 달려가 그 곳에 먼저 도착하였다.
34 예수님은 배에서 내려 많은 군중들을 보시고 목자 없는 양과 같아서 그들을 불쌍히 여겨 많은 것을 가르치셨다.
35 날이 저물어 가자 제자들이 예수님께 와서 말하였다. “이 곳은 벌판인데다가 날도 이미 저물었습니다.
36 사람들을 가까운 마을로 보내 각자 음식을 사 먹게 하십시오.”
37 “너희가 저들에게 먹을 것을 주어라.” “우리가 가서 [e]200데나리온이나 들여 빵을 사다가 먹이란 말씀입니까?”
38 “너희가 가진 빵이 몇 개나 되는지 가서 알아보고 오너라.” 그래서 제자들이 알아보니 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리뿐이었다.
39 그때 예수님이 제자들에게 모든 사람을 떼지어 풀밭에 앉히라고 지시하시자
40 그들은 100명씩, 50명씩 모여 앉았다.
41 예수님은 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리를 받아 들고 하늘을 우러러 감사 기도를 드리신 다음 빵을 떼어서 제자들에게 주시며 사람들 앞에 갖다 놓게 하였다. 그리고 물고기 두 마리도 모든 사람들에게 나누어 주셨다.
42 그래서 그들은 모두 실컷 먹고
43 남은 빵과 물고기 조각을 열두 광주리나 거뒀으며
44 먹은 사람은 남자만 약 5,000명이었다.
45 예수님은 군중들을 돌려보내시는 동안 제자들이 서둘러 배를 타고 자기보다 먼저 건너편 벳새다로 건너가게 하셨다.
46 군중을 다 보내신 후에 예수님은 기도하시려고 산으로 가셨다.
47 날은 이미 저물었고 제자들이 탄 배는 바다 한가운데 있었으며 예수님은 혼자 육지에 계셨다.
48 바람이 휘몰아치므로 제자들이 노를 젓느라고 애쓰는 것을 보신 예수님은 [f]새벽 4시쯤 바다 위를 걸어서 제자들에게 오셨다가 그대로 지나가시려 하셨다.
49-50 그때 바다 위를 걸어오시는 예수님을 보고서 제자들은 유령인 줄 알고 모두 놀라 소리를 질렀다. 그래서 예수님이 즉시 그들에게 “나다. 무서워하지 말고 안심하여라” 하시면서
51 그들이 탄 배에 오르시자 곧 바람이 그쳤다. 제자들은 너무 놀라 어쩔 줄 몰랐다.
52 이것은 그들이 빵에 대한 기적을 깨닫지 못하고 오히려 마음이 둔해졌기 때문이었다.
53 그들은 바다를 건너 게네사렛 땅에 이르렀다.
54 사람들은 배에서 내리는 예수님을 금방 알아보고
55 온 지방으로 뛰어다니며 병자들을 자리에 누인 채로 예수님이 계시는 곳에 데려왔다.

Sending Out the Twelve(K)
7 (L)And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out (M)two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. 8 He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts— 9 but (N)to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.

[b]Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”

14 (T)Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore (U)these powers are at work in him.”

Feeding the Five Thousand(AF)
30 (AG)Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. 31 (AH)And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For (AI)there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 (AJ)So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.
33 But [f]the multitudes saw them departing, and many (AK)knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him. 34 (AL)And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like (AM)sheep not having a shepherd. So (AN)He began to teach them many things. 35 (AO)When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late. 36 Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves [g]bread; for they have nothing to eat.”
37 But He answered and said to them, “You give them something to eat.”
And they said to Him, (AP)“Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
38 But He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”

Jesus Walks on the Sea(AU)
45 (AV)Immediately He [i]made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away. 46 And when He had sent them away, He (AW)departed to the mountain to pray. 47 Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. 48 Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and (AX)would have passed them by. 49 And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a (AY)ghost, and cried out; 50 for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, (AZ)“Be[j] of good cheer! It is I; do not be (BA)afraid.” 51 Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind (BB)ceased. And they were greatly (BC)amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled. 52 For (BD)they had not understood about the loaves, because their (BE)heart was hardened.
Many Touch Him and Are Made Well(BF)
53 (BG)When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. 54 And when they came out of the boat, immediately [k]the people recognized Him, 55 ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. 56 Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that (BH)they might just touch the (BI)hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.
