⁵² For ^(A)they had not understood about the loaves, because their ^(B)heart was hardened.

¹⁷ But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? ^(A)Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart ^[a]still hardened? ¹⁸ Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember? ^19 (B)When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?”

They said to Him, “Twelve.”

²⁰ “Also, ^(C)when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?”

And they said, “Seven.”

²¹ So He said to them, “How is it ^(D)you do not understand?”

²⁵ Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

The Great Commission^(A)

^14 (B)Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.

⁵ And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the ^(A)hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored ^[a]as whole as the other.

⁷ What then? ^(A)Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were ^(B)blinded.

¹⁸ So He said to them, ^(A)“Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him,

^9 (A)Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? ^10 (B)Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up? ¹¹ How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?—but to beware of the ^[a]leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
