John 6:5-15
English Standard Version
5 (A)Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to (B)Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7 (C)Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii[a] worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.” 8 One of his disciples, (D)Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five (E)barley loaves and two fish, but (F)what are they for so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” (G)Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and (H)when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, (I)“This is indeed (J)the Prophet (K)who is to come into the world!”
15 (L)Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus (M)withdrew again to (N)the mountain by himself.

12 Now (A)the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, (B)“Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.” 13 But he said to them, (C)“You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than (D)five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.” 14 For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 And they did so, and had them all sit down. 16 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, (E)he looked up to heaven and (F)said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 17 And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.

Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. 21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
