Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand^(A)(B)

¹⁰ When the apostles^(C) returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida,^(D)

¹⁸ When they arrived, he said to them: “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you,^(A) from the first day I came into the province of Asia.^{(B) 19} I served the Lord with great humility and with tears^(C) and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents.^{(D) 20} You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything^(E) that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. ²¹ I have declared to both Jews^(F) and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance^(G) and have faith in our Lord Jesus.^(H)

² These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John;

¹⁴ When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles^(A) reclined at the table.^(B)

⁵ The apostles^(A) said to the Lord,^(B) “Increase our faith!”

⁷ Calling the Twelve to him,^(A) he began to send them out two by two^(B) and gave them authority over impure spirits.^(C)

⁸ These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. ⁹ Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. ¹⁰ Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. ¹¹ And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet^(D) as a testimony against them.”

¹² They went out and preached that people should repent.^{(E) 13} They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil^(F) and healed them.

⁶ Similarly, encourage the young men^(A) to be self-controlled.^{(B) 7} In everything set them an example^(C) by doing what is good.^(D) In your teaching show integrity, seriousness
