Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

¹⁰ On their return ^(A)the apostles told him all that they had done. ^(B)And he took them and withdrew apart to a town called Bethsaida.

¹⁸ And when they came to him, he said to them:

^(A)“You yourselves know ^(B)how I lived among you the whole time ^(C)from the first day that I set foot in Asia, ^19 (D)serving the Lord ^(E)with all humility and with ^(F)tears and with trials that happened to me through ^(G)the plots of the Jews; ²⁰ how I ^(H)did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and ^(I)teaching you in public and from house to house, ^21 (J)testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of ^(K)repentance toward God and of ^(L)faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.^[a]

^2 (A)The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, ^(B)who is called Peter, and ^(C)Andrew his brother; ^(D)James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

¹⁰ Now it was ^(A)Mary Magdalene and ^(B)Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles,

^5 (A)The apostles said to the Lord, ^(B)“Increase our faith!”

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

^7 (A)And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. ⁸ He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— ⁹ but to ^(B)wear sandals and not put on two tunics.^{[a] 10} And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. ¹¹ And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, ^(C)shake off the dust that is on your feet ^(D)as a testimony against them.” ^12 (E)So they went out and ^(F)proclaimed ^(G)that people should repent. ^13 (H)And they cast out many demons and ^(I)anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.

⁶ Likewise, urge ^(A)the younger men to be self-controlled. ⁷ Show yourself in all respects to be ^(B)a model of good works, and in your teaching ^(C)show integrity, ^(D)dignity,
