²² When the daughter of^[a] Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests.

The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.”

¹⁰ On the seventh day, when King Xerxes was in high spirits^(A) from wine,^(B) he commanded the seven eunuchs who served him—Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona,^(C) Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar and Karkas— ¹¹ to bring^(D) before him Queen Vashti, wearing her royal crown, in order to display her beauty^(E) to the people and nobles, for she was lovely to look at. ¹² But when the attendants delivered the king’s command, Queen Vashti refused to come. Then the king became furious and burned with anger.^(F)

⁶ On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for the guests and pleased Herod so much

² While Belshazzar was drinking^(A) his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets^(B) that Nebuchadnezzar his father^[a] had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines^(C) might drink from them.^(D)

¹⁸ In that day^(D) the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces,^{(E) 19} the earrings and bracelets^(F) and veils,^{(G) 20} the headdresses^(H) and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, ²¹ the signet rings and nose rings,^{(I) 22} the fine robes and the capes and cloaks,^(J) the purses ²³ and mirrors, and the linen garments^(K) and tiaras^(L) and shawls.
