¹⁸ For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”^(A)

²¹ If a man takes his brother’s wife, it is impurity; he has uncovered his brother’s nakedness; they shall be childless.^(A)

¹⁶ You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness.^(A)

¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, “You shall surely die,” and you give them no warning and do not speak to warn the wicked from their wicked way in order to save their lives, those wicked persons shall die for their iniquity, but their blood I will require at your hand.^{(A) 19} But if you warn the wicked and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their wicked way, they shall die for their iniquity, but you will have saved your life.^(B)

¹⁴ But Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, whatever the Lord says to me, that I will speak.”^(A)

Paul Held in Custody

²⁴ Some days later when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him speak concerning faith in Christ Jesus. ²⁵ And as he discussed justice, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “Go away for the present; when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”^{(A) 26} At the same time he hoped that money would be given him by Paul, and for that reason he used to send for him very often and converse with him.

²⁶ Therefore I declare to you this day that I am not responsible for the blood of any of you,^{(A) 27} for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.^(B)

³ For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,^{(A) 4} because John had been telling him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”^(B)
