Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Man(A)
5 They arrived at the other side of the sea in the territory of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 Just as Jesus[b] stepped out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs and met him. 3 He lived among the tombs, and no one could restrain him any longer, not even with a chain. 4 He had often been restrained with shackles and chains, but had snapped the chains apart and broken the shackles in pieces. No one could tame him. 5 He kept screaming night and day among the tombs and on the mountainsides, and kept cutting himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell down in front of him, 7 screaming in a loud voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you in the name of[c] God never to torment me!”
8 Jesus[d] had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 9 Then Jesus[e] asked him, “What’s your name?”
He told him, “My name is Legion,[f] because there are many of us.” 10 He kept pleading with Jesus[g] not to send them out of that region.
11 Now a large herd of pigs was grazing on a hillside nearby. 12 So the demons[h] begged him, “Send us among the pigs, so that we can go into them!” 13 So he let them do this. The unclean spirits came out of the man[i] and went into the pigs, and the herd of about 2,000 rushed down a steep slope into the sea and drowned there.[j]
14 Now when those who had been taking care of the pigs ran away, they reported what had happened[k] in the city and countryside. So the people[l] went to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus and saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there dressed and in his right mind, they were frightened. 16 The people who had seen it told them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and the pigs. 17 So they began to beg Jesus[m] to leave their territory.
18 As Jesus[n] was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed kept begging him to let him go with him. 19 But Jesus[o] wouldn’t let him. Instead, he told him, “Go home to your family, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been to you.” 20 So the man[p] left and began proclaiming in the Decapolis[q] how much Jesus had done for him. And everyone was utterly amazed.
Jesus Heals a Woman and Resurrects a Girl(B)
21 When Jesus again had crossed to the other side in a boat,[r] a large crowd gathered around him by the seashore. 22 Then a synagogue leader named Jairus arrived. When he saw Jesus,[s] he fell at his feet 23 and begged him urgently, saying, “My little daughter is dying. Come and lay your hands on her so that she may get well and live.” 24 So Jesus[t] went with him. A huge crowd kept following him and jostling him.
25 Now there was a woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years. 26 Although she had endured a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all of her money, she had not been helped at all, but rather grew worse. 27 Since she had heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his robe, 28 because she had been saying, “If I can just touch his robe, I will get well.” 29 Her bleeding stopped at once, and she felt in her body that she was healed from her illness.
30 Immediately Jesus became aware that power had gone out of him. So he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31 His disciples asked him, “You see the crowd jostling you, and yet you ask, ‘Who touched me?’” 32 But he kept looking around to look at the woman who had done this. 33 So the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came forward fearfully, fell down trembling in front of him, and told him the whole truth.
34 He told her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed from your illness.”
35 While he was still speaking, some people[u] came from the synagogue leader’s home[v] and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher anymore?”
36 But when Jesus heard[w] what they said, he told the synagogue leader, “Stop being afraid! Just keep on believing.” 37 Jesus[x] allowed no one to go further with him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.
38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus[y] saw mass confusion. People[z] were crying and sobbing loudly. 39 He entered the house[aa] and asked them, “Why all this confusion and crying? The child isn’t dead. She’s sleeping.” 40 They laughed and laughed at him. But when he had driven all of them outside, he took the child’s father and mother, along with the men who were with him, and went into the room[ab] where the child was.
41 He took her by the hand and told her, “Talitha koum,”[ac] which means, “Young lady, I tell you, get up!” 42 The young lady got up at once and started to walk. She was twelve years old. Instantly they were overcome with astonishment. 43 But Jesus[ad] strictly ordered them not to let anyone know about this. He also told them to give her something to eat.

5 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

5 Sau đó họ đến bờ biển bên kia, vào miền Ghê-ra-sê-nê. 2 Khi Ngài vừa bước ra khỏi thuyền, liền có một người bị tà linh ô uế nhập từ nghĩa địa ra đón Ngài. 3 Ông sống giữa các mồ mả. Không ai có thể kiềm chế ông được nữa, ngay cả xiềng xích cũng vô dụng, 4 vì ông thường bị cùm và bị xiềng, nhưng ông đã bứt xiềng và bẻ cùm, và không ai đủ sức chế ngự ông. 5 Ngày đêm ông ở giữa các mồ mả và trên núi; ông thường gào rú và lấy đá đập vào mình. 6 Khi thấy Ðức Chúa Jesus ở đàng xa, ông chạy đến, sấp mình trước mặt Ngài, 7 và nói lớn tiếng, “Lạy Ðức Chúa Jesus, Con Ðức Chúa Trời Tối Cao, Ngài định làm gì với tôi? Tôi nhân danh Ðức Chúa Trời van xin Ngài đừng hành hạ tôi.” 8 Số là Ngài đã nói với ông, “Hỡi tà linh ô uế, hãy ra khỏi người này.”
9 Ngài hỏi ông, “Ngươi tên chi?”
Ông đáp, “Tôi tên là ‘Ðạo quân,’ vì chúng tôi rất đông.” 10 Rồi ông cứ lải nhải van xin Ngài đừng đuổi chúng ra khỏi miền đó.
11 Khi ấy gần đó có một bầy heo rất đông đang ăn trên triền núi. 12 Chúng van nài, “Xin sai chúng tôi đến với bầy heo để chúng tôi có thể nhập vào chúng.” 13 Ngài cho phép. Bầy quỷ ô uế xuất ra khỏi người ấy và nhập vào bầy heo. Bầy heo từ trên triền núi cùng nhau lao mình xuống biển. Có khoảng hai ngàn con heo chết chìm dưới biển.
14 Thấy vậy những người chăn heo bỏ chạy và thuật chuyện ấy khắp thành và các làng xung quanh. Người ta đổ xô nhau đến xem việc đã xảy ra. 15 Khi họ đến gặp Ðức Chúa Jesus và thấy người bị quỷ ám, tức người vốn đã bị bầy quỷ ‘đạo quân’ ám nhập, ngồi đó, ăn mặc đàng hoàng, và đầu óc tỉnh táo, họ phát sợ. 16 Những người chứng kiến việc ấy thuật lại cho họ những gì đã xảy đến cho người bị quỷ ám và bầy heo. 17 Họ liền nài xin Ngài rời khỏi miền của họ.
18 Ðang khi Ngài xuống thuyền, người vốn bị quỷ ám đến xin Ngài cho ông theo Ngài. 19 Ngài không cho nhưng bảo ông, “Hãy về nhà ngươi, về với bà con bạn hữu ngươi, thuật lại mọi việc lớn lao mà Chúa đã làm cho ngươi, và cho họ biết Ngài đã thương xót ngươi thế nào.” 20 Ông đi về và bắt đầu rao truyền khắp miền Ðê-ca-pô-li[a] những việc lớn lao mà Ðức Chúa Jesus đã làm cho ông, và ai nghe đều lấy làm lạ.
Giai-ru Xin Chúa Cứu Chữa Con Gái của Ông
(Mat 9:18-19; Lu 8:40-42)
21 Ðức Chúa Jesus xuống thuyền và trở lại bờ bên kia; bấy giờ một đám đông rất lớn tụ lại quanh Ngài, đang khi Ngài ở gần bờ biển. 22 Này, một trong những người quản lý hội đường tên là Giai-ru đến đó; vừa khi thấy Ngài ông sấp mình xuống nơi chân Ngài 23 và khẩn thiết cầu xin Ngài rằng, “Con gái tôi sắp chết. Kính xin Thầy đến đặt tay trên cháu, để cháu được lành và sẽ sống.” 24 Vậy Ngài đi với ông. Một đoàn dân rất đông đi theo Ngài và chen lấn nhau quanh Ngài.
Chúa Chữa Lành Người Ðàn Bà Bị Băng Huyết
(Mat 9:20-22; Lu 8:43-48)
25 Khi ấy có một bà bị băng huyết đã mười hai năm. 26 Bà đã khổ sở làm theo cách chữa trị dưới tay nhiều y sĩ và đã tốn hết tiền bạc, nhưng bịnh tình đã không thuyên giảm mà còn trở nên trầm trọng hơn. 27 Bà đã nghe người ta nói về Ðức Chúa Jesus, nên bà chen lấn trong đám đông đang theo Ngài và sờ vào áo Ngài, 28 vì bà nghĩ rằng, “Nếu tôi chỉ được chạm vào áo Ngài thì tôi sẽ được lành.” 29 Ngay lập tức máu trong người bà cầm lại, và bà cảm biết trong người rằng bịnh của bà đã được chữa lành. 30 Ðức Chúa Jesus biết ngay rằng quyền năng từ Ngài vừa xuất ra; Ngài quay lại đám đông và hỏi, “Ai đã chạm vào áo Ta?”
31 Các môn đồ nói với Ngài, “Thầy thấy đó, người ta đông đúc chen lấn nhau quanh Thầy, mà Thầy còn hỏi, ‘Ai đã đụng vào Ta?’” 32 Nhưng Ngài vẫn tiếp tục nhìn quanh, để xem ai đã làm điều đó. 33 Bấy giờ người đàn bà biết điều gì đã xảy đến cho mình, nên sợ và run, đến sấp mình trước mặt Ngài, và trình bày hết sự thật. 34 Ngài nói với bà, “Hỡi con gái, đức tin của con đã làm cho con được cứu chữa. Con Gái của Giai-ru Ðược Sống Lại

35 Khi Ngài còn đang nói, có mấy người từ nhà của người quản lý hội đường đến và báo rằng, “Con gái ông đã chết rồi. Sao ông còn làm phiền Thầy làm chi?”
36 Nhưng khi Ðức Chúa Jesus nghe những lời đó, Ngài nói với người quản lý hội đường, “Ðừng sợ, chỉ tin mà thôi.” 37 Ngài không cho ai đi theo Ngài ngoại trừ Phi-rơ, Gia-cơ, và Giăng em của Gia-cơ. 38 Khi họ đến nhà người quản lý hội đường, Ngài thấy một cảnh ồn ào hỗn độn, kẻ khóc lóc, người kêu gào. 39 Khi vào trong nhà, Ngài nói với họ, “Tại sao các ngươi kêu gào và khóc than như thế? Ðứa trẻ không chết đâu, nhưng chỉ ngủ thôi.” 40 Họ chế nhạo Ngài. Sau khi mọi người được mời ra ngoài, Ngài đưa cha mẹ đứa trẻ và các môn đồ Ngài vào chỗ đứa trẻ nằm. 41 Ngài nắm tay đứa trẻ và nói với nó, “Ta-li-tha Cum,” nghĩa là “Hỡi con gái nhỏ, Ta truyền cho con: hãy đứng dậy.” 42 Ngay lập tức đứa trẻ đứng dậy và bước đi, vì nó đã mười hai tuổi. Thấy vậy họ vô cùng kinh ngạc. 43 Ngài nghiêm dặn họ đừng cho ai biết việc ấy và bảo họ hãy cho đứa trẻ ăn.
