Jesus befriar en man som är besatt av onda andar
(Matt 8:28-34; Luk 8:26-37)
5 Så kom de över till andra sidan sjön, till området kring Gerasa[a]. 2 När Jesus steg ur båten kom en man emot honom från gravplatsen. Han var besatt av en oren ande 3 och levde bland gravarna. Numera gick det inte att binda honom ens med kedjor. 4 Man hade flera gånger försökt binda både hans händer och fötter, men varje gång hade han slitit sönder kedjorna och fotbojorna. Ingen kunde rå på honom. 5 Dag och natt höll han till bland gravarna eller uppe bland bergen och skrek och skar sönder sig själv med stenar.
6 Mannen hade fått syn på Jesus redan då han var långt borta och kom nu rusande och föll ner för honom. 7 ”Lämna mig ifred, Jesus, du den högste Gudens Son! Svär inför Gud att inte plåga mig!” skrek han, 8 för Jesus hade just befallt: ”Far ut ur mannen, du orena ande.”
9 Jesus frågade nu: ”Vad heter du?” Han svarade: ”Jag heter legion[b], för vi är många.” 10 Och gång på gång bad han att Jesus inte skulle köra bort dem ifrån området.
11 Där gick en stor svinhjord och betade på berget. 12 Andarna tiggde därför och bad: ”Skicka iväg oss till svinen, så att vi kan fara in i dem”, 13 och Jesus lät dem få som de ville. Då lämnade de orena andarna mannen och for in i svinen, och hela hjorden på omkring 2 000 svin störtade utför bergssluttningen och drunknade i sjön.
14 Herdarna som vaktat svinen sprang till staden och till landsbygden och berättade alltihop, och folket gick då ut för att ta reda på vad som hade hänt. 15 När de kom fram till Jesus fick de se mannen som varit besatt av legionen sitta där, påklädd och fullständigt normal, och de blev förskräckta. 16 Ögonvittnena berättade vad som hade hänt med den besatta mannen och hur det hade gått för svinen. 17 Men då bad folket Jesus att lämna deras område.
18 När han steg i båten, bad mannen som varit besatt att han skulle få följa med Jesus. 19 Men Jesus ville inte ta med honom. ”Gå hem till de dina”, sa han, ”och berätta för dem vad Herren har gjort med dig, och hur han förbarmade sig över dig.”
20 Då gick mannen iväg och berättade i hela Tiostadsområdet[c] vad Jesus hade gjort med honom. Alla häpnade.
Jesus botar en kvinna med blödningar och uppväcker en död flicka
(Matt 9:18-26; Luk 8:41-56)
21 När Jesus hade åkt tillbaka till andra sidan sjön, samlades mycket folk omkring honom. Och medan han var där på stranden, 22 kom en synagogföreståndare som hette Jairos dit. Så fort han fick syn på Jesus, föll han ner framför honom 23 och vädjade: ”Min lilla dotter håller på att dö. Jag ber dig, kom och lägg händerna på henne så att hennes liv kan räddas.” 24 Jesus gick genast med honom, följd av mycket folk som trängde på från alla håll.
25 Där fanns också en kvinna, som under tolv års tid lidit av blödningar. 26 Hon hade plågats mycket och behandlats av många läkare, men trots att hon gjort slut på allt hon ägde, hade hon inte blivit bättre, utan snarare sämre. 27 Nu hade hon hört om Jesus och trängde sig fram bakom honom i folksamlingen och rörde vid hans mantel, 28 för hon sa: ”Om jag bara får röra vid hans kläder så kommer jag att bli frisk.” 29 Och så snart hon rört vid honom, stannade blödningen och hon kände att hon var befriad från sitt lidande.
30 Jesus märkte genast att det hade gått ut kraft från honom, och han vände sig om och frågade: ”Vem rörde vid mina kläder?”
31 Hans lärjungar sa till honom: ”Folk tränger ju på från alla håll, självklart måste någon ha rört vid dig!” 32 Men Jesus såg sig omkring för att få reda på vem som hade gjort det.
33 Kvinnan blev förskräckt,[d] eftersom hon visste vad som hade hänt med henne, men hon kom darrande fram och föll ner för Jesus och berättade hur allt hade gått till. 34 Då sa Jesus till henne: ”Min dotter, din tro har gjort dig frisk[e]. Gå i frid! Bli helad från ditt lidande!”
35 Medan Jesus fortfarande talade, kom det en budbärare från synagogföreståndarens hus och meddelade: ”Din dotter har dött. Det är ingen idé att du stör Mästaren längre.” 36 Men Jesus brydde sig inte om deras ord, utan sa till synagogföreståndaren: ”Var inte rädd! Tro bara.” 37 Sedan lät han bara Petrus, Jakob och Johannes, Jakobs bror, följa med.
38 När de kom fram till synagogföreståndarens hem, såg Jesus en upprörd skara som grät och klagade högljutt. 39 Och han gick in till dem och sa till dem: ”Varför gråter ni och är så upprörda? Flickan är inte död, hon sover.” 40 Då hånskrattade de åt honom, men han körde ut dem allihop och tog med sig flickans föräldrar och lärjungarna och gick in i rummet där flickan låg. 41 Så tog han flickan i handen och sa till henne: ”Talita koum![f]” (det betyder: Lilla flicka, jag säger dig, ställ dig upp!) 42 Och flickan, som var tolv år gammal, reste sig genast upp och började gå omkring. De blev mycket häpna, 43 men Jesus förbjöd dem att berätta för någon vad som hade hänt. Sedan sa han åt dem att ge flickan något att äta.

A Demon-Possessed Man Healed(A)
5 Then (B)they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the [a]Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an (C)unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind [b]him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. 7 And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I (D)implore[c] You by God that You do not torment me.”
8 For He said to him, (E)“Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” 9 Then He asked him, “What is your name?”
And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 10 Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country.
11 Now a large herd of (F)swine was feeding there near the mountains. 12 So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.” 13 And [d]at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.
14 So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. 15 Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been (G)demon-possessed and had the legion, (H)sitting and (I)clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 16 And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. 17 Then (J)they began to plead with Him to depart from their region.
18 And when He got into the boat, (K)he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to (L)proclaim in [e]Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all (M)marveled.
A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed(N)
21 (O)Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22 (P)And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and (Q)lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.
25 Now a certain woman (R)had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and (S)touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the [f]affliction. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that (T)power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”
31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, (U)fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, (V)your faith has made you well. (W)Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
35 (X)While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only (Y)believe.” 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw [g]a tumult and those who (Z)wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but (AA)sleeping.”
40 And they ridiculed Him. (AB)But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were (AC)overcome with great amazement. 43 But (AD)He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat.
