Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(A)(B)
5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat,(C) a man with an impure spirit(D) came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(E) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(F) In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“My name is Legion,”(G) he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion(H) of demons,(I) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. 17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them(J) how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[b](K) how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(L)
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,(M) a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.(N) 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders,(O) named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on(P) her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(Q) for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes,(R) I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.(S)
30 At once Jesus realized that power(T) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(U) Go in peace(V) and be freed from your suffering.”
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(W) “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36 Overhearing[c] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.(X) 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,(Y) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”(Z) 40 But they laughed at him.
After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand(AA) and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).(AB) 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this,(AC) and told them to give her something to eat.

2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

1-2 När de kom fram till andra sidan sjön, till trakten av Gerasa, rusade en man fram just som Jesus steg ur båten. Han var besatt av en ond ande och levde bland de klipphålor som man använde som gravar.
3-4 Han var så vild så att det inte ens gick att sätta handbojor på honom. Varenda gång man gjorde det - och det var ofta - så slet han sönder kedjorna och gick därifrån. Ingen vågade komma i närheten av honom.
5 Dag och natt höll han till bland gravhålorna eller irrade omkring uppe bland bergen och skrek och skar sönder sig själv med vassa stenar.
6 Medan Jesus ännu var långt ute på sjön, hade mannen sett honom. Nu kom han rusande och kastade sig ner på marken framför Jesus.
7 Låt mig vara ifred! skrek han så högt han kunde. Du är ju son till den högste Guden. För Guds skull pina mig inte!
8 Jesus hade nämligen befallt den onde anden att lämna mannen.
9 Vad heter du? frågade Jesus, och den onde anden svarade: Legion, för vi är många i den här mannen.
10 Och gång på gång bad de onda andarna: Kör inte bort oss härifrån, utan låt oss stanna här på platsen.
11 Just då gick en stor svinhjord och bökade på berget ovanför sjön.
12 Skicka iväg oss, tiggde då de onda andarna, så att vi kan fara in i de där svinen.
13 Och Jesus lät dem få som de ville. Då lämnade de onda andarna mannen och for in i svinen, och hela hjorden störtade utför bergssluttningen ner i sjön och drunknade.
14 Då flydde de som vaktade svinen och sprang till städerna och byarna i närheten och berättade vad som hade hänt. Människor kom då rusande till platsen för att själva få se det med egna ögon,
15 och en stor folkskara samlades. Men när de såg mannen sitta där, klädd och vid sina sinnens fulla bruk, blev de rädda.
16 De som sett hur mannen hade blivit helad och vad som hände med svinen berättade det för alla,
17 och folket bad sedan Jesus att gå därifrån och lämna dem ifred.
18 Då gick han tillbaka till båten. Mannen, som varit besatt av andarna, frågade då Jesus om han fick följa med.
19 Men Jesus vägrade att ta med honom.Gå hem till dina vänner, sa han, och berätta för dem vilket stort under Gud har gjort med dig, och hur barmhärtig han har varit mot dig.
20 Mannen gick därefter runt i Tiostadsområdet och berättade för alla om det stora under Jesus gjort med honom. Och man häpnade över hans berättelse.
Jesus botar en kvinna med blödningar och uppväcker en död flicka
21 När Jesus hade farit över med båten till andra sidan sjön, samlades en stor folkskara omkring honom på stranden.
22 Då kom en man, som hette Jairos och som var föreståndare för synagogan på platsen, och föll förtvivlad ner vid hans fötter
23 och bad honom bota hans lilla dotter.Hon håller på att dö, sa han. Jag ber dig, kom och lägg dina händer på henne så att hon blir frisk igen.
24 Jesus gick med honom följd av en väldig folkmassa som trängde på.
25 I folksamlingen fanns en kvinna, som i tolv år lidit av inre blödningar.
26 Hon hade plågats mycket under åren och behandlats av många läkare. Hon hade använt alla sina pengar för att bli frisk, men hade inte blivit bättre utan snarare sämre.
27 Nu hade hon hört om alla de märkliga under Jesus hade gjort. Därför trängde hon sig fram bakom honom i folksamlingen och rörde försiktigt vid hans kläder.
28 Hon tänkte nämligen: Om jag bara kan röra vid hans kläder kommer jag att bli frisk.
29 Och så snart hon hade rört vid honom, stannade blödningen av och hon visste att hon var frisk.
30 Jesus kände genast att helande kraft hade gått ut från honom, och han vände sig om och frågade: Vem rörde vid mina kläder?
31 Hans lärjungar sa till honom: Här tränger folk på från alla håll och så frågar du vem som rörde vid dig!
32 Men han såg sig omkring för att få veta vem det var som hade gjort det.
33 Kvinnan blev förskräckt, och när hon förstod vad som hänt henne kom hon darrande fram och föll ner vid hans fötter och talade om vad hon hade gjort.
34 Då sa Jesus till henne: Dotter, din tro har botat dig. Gå i frid. Du är fri från din sjukdom.
35 Medan han fortfarande talade med henne kom några med bud från Jairos hem att det var för sent - hans dotter hade dött, och det var ingen idé längre att Jesus kom.
36 Men Jesus som hörde vad de sa, sa till Jairos: Var inte rädd! Tro bara på mig.
37 Så bad Jesus folkskaran bli kvar på platsen och tillät inte någon att följa med honom till Jairos hem utom Petrus och Jakob och Johannes.
38 När de kom fram såg Jesus att det rådde stor förvirring i hemmet. Alla grät och klagade utan att kunna behärska sig.
39 Då gick han in till dem och sa: Varför gråter ni och är så upprörda? Flickan är inte död, hon sover bara!
40 Då hånskrattade de åt honom, men han bad dem alla att lämna huset. Sedan tog han med sig flickans mor och far och sina tre lärjungar och gick in i rummet där hon låg.
41-42 Han tog henne vid handen och sa till henne: Res dig upp, min lilla flicka! Och flickan som var tolv år gammal reste sig upp och började gå omkring i rummet. Hennes föräldrar blev utom sig av förvåning,
43 men Jesus förbjöd dem att berätta vad som hänt. Sedan sa han åt dem att ge henne något att äta.

Jesus Heals a Woman and Jairus's Daughter
21 And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. 22 (N)Then came one of (O)the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet 23 and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and (P)lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” 24 And he went with him.
And a great crowd followed him and (Q)thronged about him. 25 And there was a woman (R)who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, 26 and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. 27 She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28 For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” 29 (S)And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her (T)disease. 30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that (U)power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” 31 And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” 32 And he looked around to see who had done it. 33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. 34 And he said to her, “Daughter, (V)your faith has made you well; (W)go in peace, and be healed of your (X)disease.”
