A Demon-Possessed Man Healed(A)
5 Then (B)they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the [a]Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an (C)unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind [b]him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. 7 And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I (D)implore[c] You by God that You do not torment me.”
8 For He said to him, (E)“Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” 9 Then He asked him, “What is your name?”
And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 10 Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country.
11 Now a large herd of (F)swine was feeding there near the mountains. 12 So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.” 13 And [d]at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.
14 So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. 15 Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been (G)demon-possessed and had the legion, (H)sitting and (I)clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 16 And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. 17 Then (J)they began to plead with Him to depart from their region.
18 And when He got into the boat, (K)he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to (L)proclaim in [e]Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all (M)marveled.
A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed(N)
21 (O)Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22 (P)And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and (Q)lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.
25 Now a certain woman (R)had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and (S)touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the [f]affliction. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that (T)power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”
31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, (U)fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, (V)your faith has made you well. (W)Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
35 (X)While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only (Y)believe.” 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw [g]a tumult and those who (Z)wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but (AA)sleeping.”
40 And they ridiculed Him. (AB)But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were (AC)overcome with great amazement. 43 But (AD)He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat.

5 예수와 제자들은 호수를 건너 거라사[a] 사람들이 살고 있는 지역으로 갔다. 2 예수께서 배에서 내리시자, 더러운 영[b] 들린 남자 하나가 무덤 사이에서 나오다가 예수를 만났다. 3 이 사람은 무덤 사이에서 살고 있었다. 누구도 그를 묶어 놓을 수 없었고, 쇠사슬도 소용이 없었다. 4 여러 번 사람들이 그의 팔과 다리를 쇠사슬로 묶어 보았으나, 그는 사슬을 끊고 뛰쳐나왔다. 그를 다룰 만큼 힘센 사람이 없었다. 5 그는 밤낮으로 무덤 사이나 산 속에서 소리를 지르거나 돌로 제 몸에 상처를 입혔다.

그 남자가 대답하였다. “제 이름은 레기온[c]입니다. 우리의 수가 많기 때문입니다.” 10 그 더러운 영들이 예수께, 자기들을 그 지역 밖으로 쫓아내지 말아 달라고 여러 차례 애원하였다.
11 마침 가까운 언덕에서 큰 돼지 떼가 먹이를 먹고 있었다. 12 더러운 영들이 예수께 애원하였다. “우리를 저 돼지들 속으로 보내 주십시오. 그러면 우리가 그 속으로 들어가겠습니다.” 13 예수께서 그렇게 하라고 허락하셨다. 더러운 영들은 그 남자에게서 나와 돼지들 속으로 들어갔다. 그러자 돼지 떼가 비탈을 내리달아 호수에 빠져 죽었다. 어림잡아 이천 마리 정도는 되었다.
14 돼지를 치던 사람들이 그 자리에서 도망쳤다. 그들은 읍내와 시골 마을로 달려가 이 사실을 알렸다. 사람들은 무슨 일이 일어났는지 보려고 몰려나왔다. 15 그들은 예수께 왔다가, 군대 귀신 들렸던 남자를 보았다. 그는 옷을 입고 바른 정신으로 돌아와 앉아 있었다. 이것을 본 사람들은 겁이 났다. 16 이 사건을 처음부터 지켜본 사람들은 뒤에 온 사람들에게 귀신 들린 남자와 돼지 떼 이야기를 자세히 들려주었다. 17 사람들은 예수께 그 지역을 떠나 달라고 간청하였다.

19 그러나 예수께서는 그가 함께 가는 것을 허락하지 않으셨다. 그리고 그에게 타이르셨다. “네 가족과 친지가 있는 집으로 돌아가거라. 가서 주 하나님께서 너를 위해 하신 모든 일을 말해 주어라. 주께서 너를 불쌍히 여겨 어떤 일을 해 주셨는지 이야기하여라.” 20 그는 예수를 떠나 데가볼리[d]로 가서, 예수께서 자기에게 베풀어 주신 놀라운 일들에 관한 이야기를 사람들에게 들려주었다. 모든 사람이 듣고 놀라워하였다.
죽은 소녀를 살리고, 병든 여인을 고치시다

21 예수께서 배를 타시고 다시 호수 건너편으로 가셨다. 그러자 많은 사람이 그분이 계시는 호숫가로 모여들었다. 22 야이로라고 하는 회당장[e]도 예수를 찾아 그곳으로 왔다. 야이로가 예수를 뵙고, 그 발 앞에 엎드려 23 간곡히 청하였다. “제 어린 딸이 죽어 가고 있습니다. 선생님께서 오셔서 제 딸에게 손을 얹어 주십시오. 그러면 그 아이의 병이 나아 살겠습니다.”
24 그래서 예수께서 야이로와 함께 가셨다. 많은 사람이 따라가면서 예수를 밀었다.
25 그 가운데는 열두 해 동안 고르지 못한 달거리[f]로 고생하는 여자도 있었다. 26 여자는 그 병 때문에 고생을 많이 하였다. 의사들을 찾아다니느라 가진 재산도 다 써 버렸다. 그러나 병은 조금도 나아지지 않고 오히려 더 나빠지고 있었다. 27 여자는 예수의 소문을 듣고, 예수를 따르는 사람들 사이에 섞여 예수를 바싹 따르다가, 그분의 옷자락을 만졌다. 28 예수의 옷자락만 만져도 병이 나을 것이라고 생각했기 때문이었다. 29 예수의 옷자락을 만지는 순간 피 흐르는 것이 멈추었다. 여자는 자신의 병이 나은 것을 느꼈다. 30 예수께서는 자신에게서 능력이 빠져나가는 것을 느끼셨다. 그래서 걸음을 멈추고 뒤를 돌아보며 물으셨다. “누가 내 옷자락을 만졌느냐?”
31 제자들이 예수께 대답하였다. “선생님, 사람들이 이렇게 사방에서 선생님을 밀어대고 있는데, ‘누가 내 옷자락을 만졌느냐?’ 라고 물으십니까?”
32 그러나 예수께서는 계속 사람들을 둘러보시며 손 댄 사람을 찾으셨다. 33 여자는 자기의 병이 나은 것을 알았다. 그래서 앞으로 나서며 예수의 발 앞에 엎드려 절하였다. 여자는 두려워 떨며, 있었던 일을 처음부터 끝까지 다 말씀드렸다. 34 예수께서 여자에게 말씀하셨다. “여인아, 네 믿음이 너를 구하였다. 걱정 말고 가거라. 다시는 이 병으로 고생하지 않을 것이다.”
35 예수의 말씀이 채 끝나기도 전에, 회당장 야이로의 집에서 사람들이 왔다. 그들은 회당장에게 “따님이 죽었습니다. 더 이상 선생님께 수고를 끼칠 필요가 없게 되었습니다.” 라고 말하였다.
36 그러나 예수께서는 그들이 전하는 말을 다 듣고도 회당장[g]에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “두려워하지 말고 그저 믿기만 하여라.”
37 예수께서는 베드로와 야고보와 그의 동생 요한 말고는 아무도 따라오는 것을 허락하지 않으셨다. 38 그들이 회당장의 집에 이르렀다. 예수께서 많은 사람이 울며 통곡하며 떠드는 것을 보셨다. 39 예수께서 집 안으로 들어가셔서 사람들에게 말씀하셨다. “어찌하여 이리 울며 소란을 떠느냐? 이 아이는 죽은 것이 아니라 지금 자고 있다.” 40 사람들은 모두 예수를 비웃었다. 예수께서 사람들을 집 밖으로 내보내셨다. 그리고 아이의 아버지와 어머니 그리고 세 제자만 데리고 아이가 누워 있는 방으로 들어가셨다. 41 예수께서 소녀의 손을 잡고 말씀하셨다. “탈리다, 쿰!” (이 말은 번역하면 “작은 소녀야, 내가 네게 말한다. 일어나라!” 라는 뜻이다.) 42 소녀는 곧 일어나서 걸어다니기 시작하였다. 소녀는 열두 살이었다. 소녀의 아버지와 어머니, 그리고 같이 있던 제자들은 이 일을 보고 크게 놀랐다. 43 예수께서는 아이의 부모에게 이 일을 누구에게도 알리지 말라고 엄하게 명하셨다. 그러고 나서 아이에게 먹을 것을 주라고 말씀하셨다.

Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(A)(B)
5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat,(C) a man with an impure spirit(D) came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(E) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(F) In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“My name is Legion,”(G) he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion(H) of demons,(I) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. 17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them(J) how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[b](K) how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(L)
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,(M) a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.(N) 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders,(O) named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on(P) her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(Q) for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes,(R) I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.(S)
30 At once Jesus realized that power(T) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(U) Go in peace(V) and be freed from your suffering.”
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(W) “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36 Overhearing[c] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.(X) 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,(Y) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”(Z) 40 But they laughed at him.
After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand(AA) and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).(AB) 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this,(AC) and told them to give her something to eat.

Jesus Heals a Woman and Jairus's Daughter
