⁴⁰ And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was.

¹⁹ But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official^[a] and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they mocked and ridiculed us, saying, “What is this that you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?”^(A)

³³ So he went in and closed the door on the two of them and prayed to the Lord.^(A)

³² When they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some scoffed, but others said, “We will hear you again about this.”

The Law and the Kingdom of God

¹⁴ The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they ridiculed him.^(A)

⁵³ And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. ⁵⁴ But taking her by the hand, he called out, “Child, get up!”^(A)

²⁴ he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him.^{(A) 25} But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.

⁶ “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under foot and turn and maul you.^(A)
