³⁹ And when he had entered, he said to them, ^(A)“Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but ^(B)sleeping.”

¹⁰ But Paul went down and ^(A)bent over him, and taking him in his arms, said, ^(B)“Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.”

^10 (A)who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.

The Coming of the Lord

¹³ But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, ^(A)that you may not grieve as others do ^(B)who have no hope. ¹⁴ For ^(C)since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him ^(D)those who have fallen asleep.

³⁰ That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some ^(A)have died.^[a]

¹¹ After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus ^(A)has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.” ¹² The disciples said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.” ¹³ Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep.

² And many of those who ^(A)sleep in ^(B)the dust of the earth shall ^(C)awake, ^(D)some to everlasting life, and ^(E)some to shame and everlasting contempt.
