¹⁵ They came to Jesus and saw the man possessed by demons sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the legion, and they became frightened.^(A)

¹³ He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son,^(A)

⁷ for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.^(A)

⁹ Then Jesus^[a] asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.”

³⁹ She had a sister named Mary, who sat at Jesus’s^[a] feet and listened to what he was saying.^(A)

²⁷ As he stepped out on shore, a man from the city who had demons met him. For a long time he had not worn^[a] any clothes, and he did not live in a house but in the tombs.

⁴ Samuel did what the Lord commanded and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, “Do you come peaceably?”^(A)

²⁰ Then the people of Beth-shemesh said, “Who is able to stand before the Lord, this holy God? To whom shall he go so that we may be rid of him?”^{(A) 21} So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath-jearim, saying, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord. Come down and take it up to you.”^(B)
