¹³ So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine, and the herd, numbering about two thousand, stampeded down the steep bank into the sea and were drowned in the sea.

⁶ The Lord said to the accuser,^[a] “Very well, he is in your power; only spare his life.”^(A)

Satan’s Doom

⁷ When the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison

⁵ The beast was given a mouth speaking arrogant and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.^{(A) 6} It opened its mouth to speak blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven. ⁷ Also, it was allowed to wage war on the saints and to conquer them.^[a] It was given authority over every tribe and people and language and nation,^(B)

¹¹ They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon,^[a] and in Greek he is called Apollyon.^[b](A)

²² who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers made subject to him.^(A)

⁴⁴ You are from your father the devil, and you choose to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.^(A)

³² And he said to them, “Go!” So they came out and entered the swine, and suddenly, the whole herd stampeded down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the water.

¹² The Lord said to the accuser,^[a] “Very well, all that he has is in your power; only do not stretch out your hand against him!” So the accuser^[b] went out from the presence of the Lord.

²² ‘How?’ the Lord asked him. He replied, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then the Lord^[a] said, ‘You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go out and do it.’^(A)
