The Parable of the Sower(A)(B)
4 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake.(C) The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables,(D) and in his teaching said: 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.(E) 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”(F)
9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(G)
10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God(H) has been given to you. But to those on the outside(I) everything is said in parables 12 so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’[a]”(J)
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word.(K) 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan(L) comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth(M) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?(N) 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.(O) 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”(P)
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.(Q) 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”(R)
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like.(S) A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”(T)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(U)
30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,(V) or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.(W) 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable.(X) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Jesus Calms the Storm(Y)
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.(Z) There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”(AA)
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Liknelsen om lantbrukaren som sådde säd
4 Återigen samlades en stor folkskara runt Jesus när han undervisade nere vid sjön. Han steg därför i en båt och satte sig ner och talade därifrån till människorna på stranden.
2 Han undervisade dem som vanligt och med hjälp av exempel förklarade han för människorna vad Gud ville säga dem:
3 Lyssna! En lantbrukare bestämde sig för att så. När han sådde
4 föll några av sädeskornen vid vägkanten, och fåglarna kom och åt upp dem.
5-6 Några korn föll där marken var stenig och där det fanns alltför lite jord. Säden växte snabbt upp, men snart vissnade den i den heta solen och dog. Rötterna fick nämligen inte någon näring i den grunda jorden.
7 Andra korn föll bland törnbuskarna som kvävde och hindrade säden från att växa upp och ge fullmogna ax.
8 Men några korn föll i god jord och gav igen trettio gånger så mycket som såtts, och en del sextio eller hundra gånger så mycket.
9 Hör noga på vad jag säger er!
Jesus förklarar liknelsen om sådden
10 När han senare var ensam med de tolv lärjungarna och med dem som följde honom frågade de: Vad betyder det som du berättade?
11-12 Han svarade: Ni har fått veta hemligheten om Guds rike, men för dem som lever utanför riket berättas den med hjälp av bilder. Det är som profeten Jesaja säger: 'Fastän de både ser och hör, förstår de ingenting och de vänder inte heller om till Gud och får sina synder förlåtna.'
13 Men om ni inte förstår den här berättelsen om sädeskornen, hur ska ni då kunna begripa allt annat jag tänker berätta?
14 Den som ger Guds ord vidare är som lantbrukaren som sådde sin säd.
15 Med den hårda vägkanten där några sädeskorn föll menas de hårdhjärtade människor som hör Guds ord, men där djävulen genast kommer och försöker få dem att glömma det.
16 Den steniga marken är exempel på människor som lätt blir entusiastiska och genast tar emot Guds ord.
17 Men de tillåter inte Ordet att tränga in i sina liv. När de för sin tros skull möter problem och svårigheter eller blir förföljda ger de upp.
18 Marken, som är täckt med törnbuskar, är lik människor som lyssnar till Guds budskap och tar emot det,
19 men som genast låter vardagliga bekymmer, nöjen och begär efter allt förkväva det, så att de inte bär någon frukt.
20 Men den goda jorden, den finns hos sådana människor som lyssnar till Guds ord och tar det till sig så att det bär frukt i deras liv, trettio, sextio och till och med hundra gånger mer än vad som såddes i deras hjärtan.
21 Sedan frågade han dem: När någon tänder en lampa, så ställer han väl inte en låda över den eller sätter den under sängen. Tvärtom! En lampa ställer man så att den kan lysa och vara till nytta.
22 Allt som nu är gömt kommer en dag att dras fram i ljuset, och det som fortfarande är hemligt ska var och en förstå.
23 Tänk noga över det jag säger er och
24 se till att de ord ni får höra leder till handling. Ju mer ni gör det, desto mer kommer ni att förstå vad jag säger till er.
25 För den som har han ska få ännu mer. Den som alltså förstår mycket av det jag säger, han ska en gång förstå allt, men den som förstår lite, han kommer till slut inte att förstå någonting av det jag säger.
Liknelsen om sådden som växer
26 Här följer en annan berättelse som förklarar Guds rike:En lantbrukare sådde säd på sin åker
27 och gick sedan därifrån. Allteftersom dagarna gick började säden gro, och den växte utan hans hjälp.
28 Jorden fick säden att gro, först trängde stråna fram, sedan formades axen och till slut mognade vetet.
29 Då kom lantbrukaren med sin lie och skördade det.
Liknelsen om senapsfröet
30 Sedan frågade Jesus: Hur ska jag beskriva Guds rike? Vilken bild ska jag använda för att visa er det?
31-32 Jo, det är som ett litet senapsfrö. Fastän senapsfröet är det minsta av alla frön, så växer det när det kommer i jorden och blir större än alla andra växter med långa grenar där fåglarna kan bygga bon och få skydd.
33 Jesus använde sig mycket ofta av bilder, så att folket bättre skulle förstå när han undervisade dem.
34 Det gjorde han alltid då han talade offentligt till dem, men när han senare var ensam med lärjungarna förklarade han innebörden i dessa bilder för dem.
Jesus visar att han är herre över vinden
35 När kvällen kom sa Jesus till lärjungarna: Kom, vi far över till andra sidan av sjön.
36 Då lämnade de folket och steg i båten där han redan satt. När de så lade ut följde några andra båtar med.
37 Men snart blåste en våldsam storm upp, och höga vågor slog in i båten så att den nästan blev full med vatten och började sjunka.
38 Jesus låg och sov i båtens akter med huvudet mot en kudde. De väckte honom och ropade förtvivlade: Märker du inte att vi håller på att drunkna?
39 Då reste han sig upp och befallde vinden och sjön att vara stilla. Då lade sig sjön, och det blev alldeles lugnt.
40 Sedan frågade han lärjungarna: Varför blev ni så rädda? Tror ni fortfarande inte på mig?
41 Förskräckta viskade de till varandra: Vem är han? Både vinden och sjön lyder honom.

4 And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
5 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
6 But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
8 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.
9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
14 The sower soweth the word.
15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

4 Chúa Giê-xu lại bắt đầu giảng dạy bên bờ hồ. Vì quần chúng tụ tập quanh Ngài quá đông nên Ngài lên ngồi trên một chiếc thuyền đậu gần bờ. Còn tất cả dân chúng thì ngồi trên bờ gần nước. 2 Chúa Giê-xu dùng ngụ ngôn dạy dỗ họ nhiều điều. Ngài kể, 3 “Nghe đây! Có một nông gia đi ra gieo giống. 4 Trong khi gieo, một số hột rơi trên đường đi, chim đáp xuống ăn hết. 5 Một số hột rơi nhằm chỗ đất đá, có ít đất thịt. Những hột giống ấy mọc nhanh vì có đất cạn. 6 Nhưng khi mặt trời mọc lên liền bị chết héo, vì rễ không sâu. 7 Một số hột khác rơi nhằm chỗ cỏ gai, gai mọc mạnh chèn cây non tốt, nên cây ấy không sinh quả được. 8 Một số hột khác rơi vào chỗ đất tốt, liền mọc lên. Cây càng ngày càng lớn, kết quả càng nhiều. Có cây sinh ra ba chục hột, có cây sáu chục, có cây một trăm.”
9 Rồi Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Người nào nghe ta được, hãy lắng tai nghe!”

10 Sau đó lúc có một mình Chúa Giê-xu, mười hai sứ đồ cùng một số người khác xúm quanh hỏi Ngài về các ngụ ngôn Ngài dùng.
11 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Các con được có trí hiểu những bí mật về Nước Trời, nhưng đối với người khác ta phải dùng chuyện ngụ ngôn 12 vì:
‘Họ thấy thì thấy mà không học được.
Họ nghe thì nghe mà không hiểu được.
Vì nếu họ học và hiểu được,
họ sẽ trở lại với ta và được tha thứ chăng.’” (C)

13 Sau đó Chúa Giê-xu hỏi các môn đệ, “Các con không hiểu ngụ ngôn nầy sao? Nếu truyện nầy mà không hiểu thì làm sao hiểu các truyện khác được? 14 Nông gia trong truyện cũng ví như người gieo lời của Thượng Đế vào lòng người ta. 15 Có khi lời giảng dạy rơi trên đường đi, giống như người nghe lời dạy dỗ của Thượng Đế nhưng vừa nghe xong thì Sa-tăng liền đến cướp lấy lời đã được gieo trong lòng họ. 16 Một số người khác như hột giống rơi trên đất đá. Họ nghe lời dạy liền hớn hở tiếp nhận. 17 Nhưng họ không để lời ấy thấm sâu vào đời sống, họ chỉ giữ lời dạy đó một thời gian ngắn thôi. Khi gặp khốn khổ hoặc gian nan vì lời dạy mà họ đã tiếp nhận, thì họ vội vàng rút lui. 18 Có những người giống như hột giống rơi vào cỏ gai; họ nghe lời dạy 19 nhưng lại để những lo âu đời nầy, bả vinh hoa phú quí và những ham muốn xấu xa khác khiến cho lời dạy bị nghẹt ngòi, không kết quả [a] trong cuộc sống họ được. 20 Một số người khác giống như hột giống trồng nơi đất tốt. Họ nghe lời dạy và vui vẻ tiếp nhận rồi lớn lên và kết quả—có hột sinh ra ba chục, hột thì sáu chục, hột thì một trăm.”

21 Sau đó Chúa Giê-xu dạy họ, “Có bao giờ các con lấy cái đèn giấu dưới cái chậu hay dưới giường không? Không! Đèn thì các con để trên chân đèn. 22 Điều gì kín giấu trước sau cũng bị phơi bày ra, và việc nào bí mật rồi cũng bị lộ ra. 23 Ai có thể nghe ta được, hãy lắng nghe cho kỹ.
24 Hãy suy nghĩ thật cẩn thận điều mình nghe. Các con cho kẻ khác thể nào thì Thượng Đế cũng sẽ cho các con lại thể ấy, và còn cho thêm. 25 Ai có trí hiểu sẽ được cho thêm nhưng ai không có thì lại bị lấy luôn điều họ đã có nữa.”
Chúa Giê-xu dùng ngụ ngôn về hột giống
26 Rồi Chúa Giê-xu dạy thêm, “Nước Trời giống như người gieo giống xuống đất. 27 Hết ngày đến đêm, dù người ngủ hay thức, hột giống tiếp tục nẩy mầm, nhưng người ấy không biết hột giống lớn lên ra sao. 28 Từ đất tạo ra hột. Trước là cây non, sau là hoa rồi đến hột. 29 Khi hột đã chín thì người ta gặt, vì đến mùa.”
Ngụ ngôn về hột cải(F)
30 Chúa Giê-xu dạy thêm, “Ta phải lấy gì để so sánh với Nước Trời? Ta phải dùng truyện gì để giải thích về nước ấy? 31 Nước Trời giống như một hột cải, nhỏ nhất trong các loại hột giống người ta trồng. 32 Nhưng khi trồng rồi, hột ấy mọc lên thành cây lớn nhất so với mọi thứ cây trồng trong vườn. Cây ấy có nhánh to rậm, đến nỗi chim trời làm tổ dưới bóng nó được.”
33 Chúa Giê-xu dùng nhiều ngụ ngôn tương tự để dạy dân chúng về lời của Thượng Đế—theo khả năng hiểu biết của họ. 34 Bao giờ Ngài cũng dùng ngụ ngôn để dạy dân chúng, nhưng khi ở riêng thì Ngài giải thích hết cho các môn đệ.
Chúa Giê-xu dẹp yên cơn bão(G)
35 Chiều hôm ấy Chúa Giê-xu bảo các môn đệ, “Chúng ta hãy đi qua bờ hồ bên kia.” 36 Rời đám đông dân chúng, các môn đệ dùng chiếc thuyền mà Ngài đã ngồi dạy đưa Ngài đi. Có các thuyền khác cùng đi nữa. 37 Bỗng một cơn bão nổi lên thổi tạt qua hồ. Sóng ào ạt tràn vào gần ngập thuyền. 38 Trong khi ấy, Chúa Giê-xu đang dựa gối ngủ phía đuôi thuyền. Các môn đệ hốt hoảng đến đánh thức Ngài dậy, “Thầy ơi, thầy không lo chúng ta sắp chết đuối hết sao?”
39 Chúa Giê-xu liền đứng dậy ra lệnh cho sóng và gió, “Hãy im đi! Lặng đi!” Gió liền ngưng, mặt hồ trở lại yên lặng như tờ.
40 Chúa Giê-xu hỏi các môn đệ, “Sao các con sợ? Các con vẫn chưa có đức tin sao?”
41 Các môn đệ vô cùng sợ hãi bảo nhau, “Ông nầy là ai mà đến nỗi sóng và gió cũng vâng lệnh?”
