3 Jesus(A) entered the synagogue(B) again, and a man was there who had a shrivelled(C) hand. 2 In order to accuse(D) him, they were watching him closely(E) to see whether he would heal(F) him on the Sabbath.(G) 3 He told the man with the shrivelled hand, ‘Stand before us.’ 4 Then he said to them, ‘Is it lawful(H) to do good(I) on the Sabbath or to do evil,(J) to save life(K) or to kill? ’(L) But they were silent.(M) 5 After looking round at them with anger,(N) he was grieved at the hardness(O) of their hearts and told the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.(P) 6 Immediately the Pharisees(Q) went out and started plotting(R) with the Herodians(S) against him, how they might kill(T) him.
Ministering to the Multitude
7 Jesus(U) departed with his disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee,(V) and a large crowd followed from Judea,(W) 8 Jerusalem,(X) Idumea, beyond the Jordan,(Y) and around Tyre(Z) and Sidon.(AA) The large crowd came to him because they heard about everything he was doing. 9 Then he told his disciples to have a small boat(AB) ready for him, so that the crowd wouldn’t crush him. 10 Since he had healed(AC) many, all who had diseases were pressing towards him to touch(AD) him. 11 Whenever the unclean(AE) spirits(AF) saw him, they fell down(AG) before him and cried out, ‘You are the Son of God! ’(AH) 12 And he would strongly warn(AI) them not to make him known.(AJ)
The Twelve Apostles
13 Jesus(AK) went up the mountain(AL) and summoned those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles,[a](AM) to be with him, to send them out to preach,(AN) 15 and to have authority to[b] drive out demons. 16 He appointed the Twelve:[c](AO) To Simon,(AP) he gave the name Peter;(AQ) 17 and to James(AR) the son of Zebedee,(AS) and to his brother John,(AT) he gave the name ‘Boanerges’ (that is, ‘Sons of Thunder’(AU)); 18 Andrew;(AV) Philip(AW) and Bartholomew; Matthew(AX) and Thomas;(AY) James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, 19 and Judas Iscariot,(AZ) who also betrayed him.
A House Divided
20 Jesus entered a house, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat.[d] 21 When his family(BA) heard this, they set out to restrain him, because they said, ‘He’s out of his mind.’(BB)
22 The scribes(BC) who had come down from Jerusalem said, ‘He is possessed by Beelzebul,’(BD) and, ‘He drives out(BE) demons(BF) by the ruler(BG) of the demons.’(BH)
23 So he summoned(BI) them and spoke to them in parables:(BJ) ‘How can Satan(BK) drive out Satan?(BL) 24 If a kingdom(BM) is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is finished. 27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his possessions unless he first ties up(BN) the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.
28 ‘Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies(BO) they utter. 29 But whoever blasphemes(BP) against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness,(BQ) but is guilty(BR) of an eternal sin’[e](BS) – 30 because they were saying, ‘He has an unclean spirit.’(BT)

31 His(BU) mother(BV) and his brothers(BW) came, and standing outside, they sent word to him and called him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him and told him, ‘Look, your mother, your brothers,(BX) and your sisters[f] are outside asking for you.’
33 He replied to them, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers? ’ 34 Looking at those sitting in a circle around him, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers!(BY) 35 Whoever does the will of God(BZ) is my brother and sister and mother.’

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath Day
3 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue. A man with a weak and twisted hand was there. 2 Some Pharisees were trying to find fault with Jesus. They watched him closely. They wanted to see if he would heal the man on the Sabbath day. 3 Jesus spoke to the man with the weak and twisted hand. “Stand up in front of everyone,” he said.
4 Then Jesus asked them, “What does the Law say we should do on the Sabbath day? Should we do good? Or should we do evil? Should we save life? Or should we kill?” But no one answered.
5 Jesus looked around at them in anger. He was very upset because their hearts were stubborn. Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand had become as good as new. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to make plans with the Herodians. They wanted to kill Jesus.
Crowds Follow Jesus
7 Jesus went off to the Sea of Galilee with his disciples. A large crowd from Galilee followed. 8 People heard about all that Jesus was doing. And many came to him. They came from Judea, Jerusalem and Idumea. They came from the lands east of the Jordan River. And they came from the area around Tyre and Sidon. 9 Because of the crowd, Jesus told his disciples to get a small boat ready for him. This would keep the people from crowding him. 10 Jesus had healed many people. So those who were sick were pushing forward to touch him. 11 When people controlled by evil spirits saw him, they fell down in front of him. The spirits shouted, “You are the Son of God!” 12 But Jesus ordered them not to tell people about him.
Jesus Appoints the Twelve Disciples
13 Jesus went up on a mountainside. He called for certain people to come to him, and they came. 14 He appointed 12 of them so that they would be with him. He would also send them out to preach. 15 And he gave them authority to drive out demons.
16 So Jesus appointed the 12 disciples.
Simon was one of them. Jesus gave him the name Peter.
17 There were James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John. Jesus gave them the name Boanerges. Boanerges means Sons of Thunder.
18 There were also Andrew,
Philip,
Bartholomew,
Matthew,
Thomas,
and James, son of Alphaeus.
And there were Thaddaeus
and Simon the Zealot.
19 Judas Iscariot was one of them too. He was the one who was later going to hand Jesus over to his enemies.
Jesus Is Accused by Teachers of the Law
20 Jesus entered a house. Again a crowd gathered. It was so large that Jesus and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 His family heard about this. So they went to take charge of him. They said, “He is out of his mind.”
22 Some teachers of the law were there. They had come down from Jerusalem. They said, “He is controlled by Beelzebul! He is driving out demons by the power of the prince of demons.”
23 So Jesus called them over to him. He began to speak to them using stories. He said, “How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom fights against itself, it can’t stand. 25 If a family is divided, it can’t stand. 26 And if Satan fights against himself, and his helpers are divided, he can’t stand. That is the end of him. 27 In fact, none of you can enter a strong man’s house unless you tie him up first. Then you can steal things from his house. 28 What I’m about to tell you is true. Everyone’s sins and evil words against God will be forgiven. 29 But whoever speaks evil things against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. Their guilt will last forever.”
30 Jesus said this because the teachers of the law were saying, “He has an evil spirit.”
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
31 Jesus’ mother and brothers came and stood outside. They sent someone in to get him. 32 A crowd was sitting around Jesus. They told him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside. They are looking for you.”
33 “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” he asked.
34 Then Jesus looked at the people sitting in a circle around him. He said, “Here is my mother! Here are my brothers! 35 Anyone who does what God wants is my brother or sister or mother.”

11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.
12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.

14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

3 안식일에 예수께서 다시 회당에 가셨다. 회당에는 한쪽 손을 못 쓰는 사람이 와 있었다. 2 그곳에 있던 몇몇 유대 사람들은 예수께서 안식일 법을 어기기만 기다리고 있었다. 그들은 예수를 고소할 구실을 찾고 있었던 것이다. 그들은 예수께서 안식일에 그 병자를 고치실 것인지 지켜보고 있었다. 3 예수께서 한 손을 못 쓰는 남자에게 말씀하셨다. “사람들이 볼 수 있도록 일어서라.”
4 그리고 예수께서 사람들에게 물으셨다. “안식일에 선한 일을 하는 것이 옳으냐, 아니면 악한 일을 하는 것이 옳으냐? 또, 생명을 구하는 것이 옳으냐, 아니면 죽이는 것이 옳으냐?” 그러나 사람들은 아무 말도 하지 않고 가만히 있었다.
5 예수께서는 화나신 얼굴로 그들을 둘러보셨다. 그리고 그들의 마음이 완고한 것을 안타까워하시며 그 사람에게 말씀하셨다. “네 손을 내밀어라.” 그가 손을 내밀자 그의 손이 완전히 나았다. 6 그러자 바리새파 사람들은 회당에서 나가서 헤롯 당[a]원들과 함께 예수를 죽일 음모를 꾸미기 시작하였다.
많은 사람이 예수를 따르다
7 예수께서 제자들과 함께 갈릴리 호수로 가셨다. 수많은 사람이 떼 지어 갈릴리로부터 예수를 따라왔다. 8 유대 지방과 예루살렘과 이두매와 요단 강[b] 건너편 지역과 두로와 시돈 지방에서도 많은 사람이 왔다. 그들은 예수께서 하신 일을 전해 듣고 온 사람들이었다. 9 예수께서 밀어닥치는 많은 사람을 보시고, 그들에게 밀리지 않으시려고 제자들에게 당신을 위해 작은 배를 하나 준비하라고 이르셨다. 10 예수께서 많은 병자를 고쳐 주셨기 때문에 온갖 병에 시달리는 사람들이 그분을 만지려고 밀려들었던 것이다. 11 더러운 영 들린 사람들도 있었다. 더러운 영들은 예수를 보자 그분 앞에 엎드리며 외쳤다. “당신은 하나님의 아들이십니다.” 12 그러나 예수께서는 당신이 누구이신지 다른 사람들에게 말하지 말라고 더러운 영들에게 엄하게 명령하셨다.
열두 사도를 부르시다

13 그 뒤에 예수께서 산으로 올라가셨다. 그리고 마음에 두셨던 사람들을 부르시니 그들이 예수께 왔다. 14 예수께서 열두 사람을 따로 뽑아 사도라는 이름으로 부르셨다. 그것은 예수께서 이 사람들을 당신과 함께 있게 하시고, 또 그들을 내보내어 말씀을 널리 전하게 하시려는 것이었다. 15 또한 이들이 귀신을 내쫓는 권세를 가지게 하시려는 것이기도 하였다. 16 그분께서 뽑으신 열두 사도의 이름은 다음과 같다. 20 예수께서 집에 들어가시니 또다시 많은 사람이 모여들었다. 그래서 예수와 제자들은 음식 먹을 겨를도 없었다. 21 예수의 가족들은 예수께서 미쳤다는 소문을 듣고 예수를 잡으러 나섰다.
22 예루살렘에서 온 율법 선생들이 이렇게 말하였다. “저 사람안에 바알세불[c]이 살고 있다. 그는 귀신 두목의 힘을 빌려 다른 귀신들을 쫓아내고 있다.”
23 그래서 예수께서 그들을 불러모아 여러 가지 비유[d]로 말씀하셨다. “사탄[e]은 사탄을 쫓아낼 수 없다. 24 만약 한 나라가 갈라져서 서로 싸우면 그 나라는 바로 설 수 없다. 25 한 가정도 갈라지면 제대로 버티어 나가지 못하고 망해 버린다. 26 사탄이 스스로 반란을 일으켜 자기를 따르는 자들과 싸우면 그는 계속 버틸 수가 없다. 그는 끝장이 나고 말 것이다. 27 만약 어떤 사람이 힘센 사람의 집에 들어가서 그의 물건을 털어 가려면, 그 사람은 먼저 그 힘센 사람을 묶어 놓아야 한다. 그렇게 해 놓은 다음에야 그는 그 힘센 사람의 집을 털 수 있다. 28 내가 진정으로 말한다. 하나님을 모독하는 말을 비롯하여 사람들이 짓는 모든 죄는 용서 받을 수 있다. 29 그러나 누구든지 성령을 모독하는 말을 하는 사람은 결코 용서 받지 못할 것이다. 그는 영원히 용서 받지 못할 죄를 짓는 것이다.”
30 예수께서 이렇게 말씀하신 것은, 율법 선생들이 “예수 안에 귀신[f]이 살고 있다.” 고 말하기 때문이었다.
예수를 따르는 사람이 진정한 예수의 가족

31 그때에 예수의 어머니와 그의 형제들이 왔다. 그들은 바깥에 서서 예수를 불러 달라고 사람을 들여보냈다. 32 무리가 예수를 둘러싸고 앉아 있다가 그분께 말씀드렸다. “선생님, 보십시오. 선생님의 어머님과 형제들과 누이들[g] 이 밖에서 선생님을 찾고 있습니다.”
33 예수께서 대답하셨다. “누가 나의 어머니이며 형제들이냐?” 34 예수께서 옆에 둘러앉아 있는 사람들을 둘러보시며 다시 말을 이으셨다. “여기에 내 어머니와 형제들이 있다. 35 누구든지 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 그 사람이 내 형제이고 누이이며 어머니이다.”
