²¹ When his family^[a] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”^(A)

²⁴ At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. “You are out of your mind,^(A) Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning^(B) is driving you insane.”

²⁰ Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed^(A) and raving mad.^(B) Why listen to him?”

³¹ Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived.^(A) Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him.

¹³ If we are “out of our mind,”^(A) as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.

³ Jesus’ brothers^(A) said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. ⁴ No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” ⁵ For even his own brothers did not believe in him.^(B)

⁶ Therefore Jesus told them, “My time^(C) is not yet here; for you any time will do. ⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me^(D) because I testify that its works are evil.^{(E) 8} You go to the festival. I am not^[a] going up to this festival, because my time^(F) has not yet fully come.” ⁹ After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.

¹⁰ However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret.

¹¹ When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did this maniac^(A) come to you?”

“You know the man and the sort of things he says,” Jehu replied.

²⁶ ‘The Lord has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada to be in charge of the house of the Lord; you should put any maniac^(A) who acts like a prophet into the stocks^(B) and neck-irons.
