⁷ “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? ^(A)Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

^9 (A)To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him.

^21 (A)And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? ^(B)Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

²⁰ When He had said this, He ^(A)showed them His hands and His side. ^(B)Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

²¹ So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! ^(C)As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” ²² And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. ^23 (D)If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

⁴⁹ And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, ^(A)“Who is this who even forgives sins?”
