John the Baptist Prepares the Way(A)

The (B)beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, (C)the Son of God. As it is written in [a]the Prophets:

(D)“Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.”
“The(E) voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’ ”

(F)John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance [b]for the remission of sins. (G)Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

Now John was (H)clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, (I)“There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. (J)I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you (K)with the Holy Spirit.”

  2. Mark 1:4 Or because of forgiveness

The beginning of the [a]gospel of Jesus Christ, [b]the Son of God.

Even as it is written [c]in Isaiah the prophet,

[d]Behold, I send my messenger before thy face,
Who shall prepare thy way;
[e]The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
Make ye ready the way of the Lord,
Make his paths straight;

John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not [f]worthy to stoop down and unloose. I baptized you [g]in water; but he shall baptize you [h]in the Holy Spirit.
