Mark 16
Christian Standard Bible
Resurrection Morning
16 When(A) the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene,(B) Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they could go and anoint him. 2 Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week,(C) they went to the tomb(D) at sunrise. 3 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?” 4 Looking up, they noticed that the stone—which was very large—had been rolled away.
5 When(E) they entered the tomb,(F) they saw a young man(G) dressed(H) in a white(I) robe sitting on the right side; they were alarmed. 6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he told them. “You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth,(J) who was crucified. He has risen!(K) He is not here. See the place where they put him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter,(L) ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee;(M) you will see him there just as he told you.’”
8 They went out and ran from the tomb,(N) because trembling and astonishment overwhelmed them. And they said nothing to anyone,(O) since they were afraid.
[Some of the earliest mss conclude with 16:8.][a]
The Longer Ending of Mark: Appearances of the Risen Lord
[9 Early(P) on the first day of the week,(Q) after he had risen,(R) he appeared first to Mary Magdalene,(S) out of whom he had driven seven demons.(T) 10 She went and reported to those who had been with him, as they were mourning and weeping. 11 Yet, when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe it.(U)
12 After this, he appeared(V) in a different form to two of them walking on their way into the country.(W) 13 And they went and reported it to the rest, who did not believe them either.
The Great Commission
14 Later he appeared to the Eleven(X) themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw him after he had risen.(Y) 15 Then(Z) he said to them, “Go into all the world(AA) and preach the gospel to all creation.(AB) 16 Whoever believes(AC) and is baptized will be saved,(AD) but whoever does not believe will be condemned.(AE) 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;[b] 18 they will pick up snakes; [c](AF) if they should drink anything deadly, it will not harm(AG) them; they will lay hands on(AH) the sick, and they will get well.”
The Ascension
19 So the Lord Jesus, after speaking to them,(AI) was taken up into heaven(AJ) and sat down at the right hand(AK) of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the accompanying signs.]
Footnotes
- 16:8 Other mss include vv. 9–20 as a longer ending. The following shorter ending is found in some mss between v. 8 and v. 9 and in one ms after v. 8 (each of which omits vv. 9–20): And all that had been commanded to them they quickly reported to those around Peter. After these things, Jesus himself sent out through them from east to west, the holy and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. Amen.

Mark 16
1599 Geneva Bible
16 1 Of Christ’s resurrection. 9 He appeareth to Mary Magdalene and others. 15 He sendeth his Apostles to preach. 19 His ascension.
1 And (A)when the Sabbath day was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Salome, bought sweet ointments, that they might come and anoint him.
2 Therefore early in the morning, the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher, when the Sun was now risen.
3 And they said one to another, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulcher?
4 And when they [a]looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away (for it was a very great one)
5 (B)So they went into the [b]sepulcher, and saw a young man sitting at the right side, clothed in a long white robe: and they were sore troubled.
6 But he said unto them, Be not so troubled: ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which hath been crucified: he is risen, he is not here: behold the place where they put him.
7 But go your way, and tell his disciples, and Peter, that he will go before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, (C)as he said unto you.
8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulcher: for they trembled, and were amazed: neither said they anything to any man: for they were afraid.
9 ¶ [c]And when Jesus was risen again, early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, (D)out of whom he had cast seven devils:
10 And she went and told them that had been with him, which mourned and wept.
11 And when they heard that he was alive, and had appeared to her, they believed it not.
12 ¶ (E)[d]After that, he appeared unto two of them in another form, as they walked and went into the country.
13 And they went and told it to the remnant, neither believed they them.
14 ¶ (F)[e]Finally, he appeared unto the eleven as they sat together, and reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him, being risen up again.
15 [f]And he said unto them, (G)Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to [g]every creature.
16 He that shall believe and be baptized, shall be saved: (H)but he that will not believe, shall be damned.
17 And these tokens shall follow them that believe, (I)In my Name they shall cast out devils, and (J)shall speak with [h]new tongues,
18 (K)And shall take away serpents, and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: (L)they shall lay their hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 (M)[i]So after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received into heaven, and sat at the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere. And the (N)Lord wrought with them, and confirmed [j]the word with signs that followed. Amen.

Mark 16
New International Version
Jesus Has Risen(A)
16 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices(B) so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”(C)
4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe(D) sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene,(E) who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him,(F) just as he told you.’”(G)
8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.[a]
[The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20.]
9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene,(H) out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.(I)
12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country.(J) 13 These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.
14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.(K)
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.(L) 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.(M) 17 And these signs(N) will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons;(O) they will speak in new tongues;(P) 18 they will pick up snakes(Q) with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on(R) sick people, and they will get well.”
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven(S) and he sat at the right hand of God.(T) 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs(U) that accompanied it.
