⁸ Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.^[a]

³⁷ They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.^(A)

²² In addition, some of our women amazed us.^(A) They went to the tomb early this morning ²³ but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. ²⁴ Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”^(B)

⁹ When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. ¹⁰ It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them^(A) who told this to the apostles.^{(B) 11} But they did not believe^(C) the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.

⁴ Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

⁵ As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe^(A) sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

⁶ “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene,^(B) who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.

⁸ So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

²⁹ Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,^(A) take my staff^(B) in your hand and run. Don’t greet anyone you meet, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy’s face.”
