⁶ “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene,^(A) who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.

¹⁷ When I saw him, I fell at his feet^(A) as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me^(B) and said: “Do not be afraid.^(C) I am the First and the Last.^{(D) 18} I am the Living One; I was dead,^(E) and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!^(F) And I hold the keys of death and Hades.^(G)

³ For what I received^(A) I passed on to you^(B) as of first importance^[a]: that Christ died for our sins^(C) according to the Scriptures,^{(D) 4} that he was buried,^(E) that he was raised^(F) on the third day^(G) according to the Scriptures,^{(H) 5} and that he appeared to Cephas,^[b](I) and then to the Twelve.^{(J) 6} After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.^{(K) 7} Then he appeared to James,^(L) then to all the apostles,^(M)

¹⁰ then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,^(A) whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead,^(B) that this man stands before you healed.

²² “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth^(A) was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs,^(B) which God did among you through him,^(C) as you yourselves know. ²³ This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge;^(D) and you, with the help of wicked men,^[a] put him to death by nailing him to the cross.^(E)

¹⁹ Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth,^(A) the king of the jews.^{(B) 20} Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city,^(C) and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek.

¹⁹ Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”^(A)

²⁰ They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” ²¹ But the temple he had spoken of was his body.^{(B) 22} After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.^(C) Then they believed the scripture^(D) and the words that Jesus had spoken.

⁴⁶ He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer^(A) and rise from the dead on the third day,^(B)

⁴ While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning^(A) stood beside them. ⁵ In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? ⁶ He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:^{(B) 7} ‘The Son of Man^(C) must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”^{(D) 8} Then they remembered his words.^(E)
