²⁰ And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them ^(A)and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

⁴ And my speech and my preaching ^(A)were not with persuasive words of ^[a]human wisdom, ^(B)but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, ⁵ that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the ^(C)power of God.

³ Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, ^(A)who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and ^(B)wonders to be done by their hands.

Christ Is Preached in Samaria

⁴ Therefore ^(A)those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. ⁵ Then ^(B)Philip went down to ^[a]the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. ⁶ And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

^4 (A)God also bearing witness ^(B)both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and ^(C)gifts^[a] of the Holy Spirit, ^(D)according to His own will?

^19 (A)in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

Continuing Power in the Church

¹² And ^(A)through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. ^(B)And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch.

Coming of the Holy Spirit

2 When ^(A)the Day of Pentecost had fully come, ^(B)they were all ^[a]with one accord in one place. ² And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and ^(C)it filled the whole house where they were sitting. ³ Then there appeared to them ^[b]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. ⁴ And ^(D)they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began ^(E)to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Crowd’s Response

⁵ And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, ^(F)devout men, from every nation under heaven. ⁶ And when this sound occurred, the ^(G)multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. ⁷ Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak ^(H)Galileans? ⁸ And how is it that we hear, each in our own ^[c]language in which we were born? ⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and ^(I)Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretans and ^[d]Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” ¹² So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”

¹³ Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”

Peter’s Sermon^(J)

¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. ¹⁵ For these are not drunk, as you suppose, ^(K)since it is only ^[e]the third hour of the day. ¹⁶ But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

²² “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you ^(S)by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know— ²³ Him, ^(T)being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, ^(U)you ^[f]have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; ^24 (V)whom God raised up, having ^[g]loosed the ^[h]pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. ²⁵ For David says concerning Him:

^6 (A)I planted, ^(B)Apollos watered, ^(C)but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then ^(D)neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. ⁸ Now he who plants and he who waters are one, ^(E)and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.

⁹ For ^(F)we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are ^(G)God’s building.
