33 (A)When the [a](B)sixth hour came, darkness [b]fell over the whole land until the [c](C)ninth hour. 34 At the [d](D)ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “(E)Eloi, Eloi, lema sabaktanei?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 35 And when some of the bystanders heard Him, they began saying, “Look! He is calling for Elijah!” 36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, “[e]Let us see if Elijah comes to take Him down.” 37 (F)But Jesus let out a loud cry, and [f]died. 38 (G)And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 (H)And when the centurion, who was standing [g]right in front of Him, saw that He [h]died in this way, he said, “Truly this man was [i]the Son of God!”
40 (I)Now there were also some women watching from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of [j]James (J)the [k]Less and Joses, and (K)Salome. 41 When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and (L)serve Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

Jesus Dies on the Cross(A)
33 At noon,[a] darkness came over the whole land[b] until three in the afternoon.[c] 34 At three o’clock,[d] Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, eloi,[e] lema sabachthani?”[f] (which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”)[g]
35 When some of the people standing there heard this, they said, “Listen! He’s calling for Elijah!”[h]
36 So someone ran and soaked a sponge in some sour wine. Then he put it on a stick and offered Jesus[i] a drink, saying, “Wait! Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down!”
37 Then Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last. 38 The curtain[j] in the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 When the centurion[k] who stood facing Jesus[l] saw how he had cried out and[m] breathed his last, he said, “This man certainly was the Son of God!”
40 Now there were women watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene,[n] Mary the mother of young James and Joseph, and Salome. 41 They used to accompany him and care for him while he was in Galilee. Many other women who had come up to Jerusalem with him were there, too.
