⁴⁶ And Joseph^[a] bought ^(A)a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and ^(B)laid him in a tomb ^(C)that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled ^(D)a stone against the entrance of the tomb.

⁵⁹ And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud ⁶⁰ and ^(A)laid it in his own new tomb, ^(B)which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled ^(C)a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.

Jesus Raises Lazarus

³⁸ Then Jesus, ^(A)deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was ^(B)a cave, and ^(C)a stone lay against it.

³ And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away ^(A)the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” ⁴ And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—^(B)it was very large.

¹⁶ What have you to do here, and whom have you here, ^(A)that you have cut out here a tomb for yourself, you ^(B)who cut out a tomb on the height and carve a dwelling for yourself in the rock?

Jesus Is Buried

^38 (A)After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly ^(B)for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body. ^39 (C)Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus^[a] by night, came ^(D)bringing a mixture of ^(E)myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds^[b] in weight. ⁴⁰ So they took the body of Jesus and ^(F)bound it in ^(G)linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. ⁴¹ Now in the place where he was crucified there was a ^(H)garden, and ^(I)in the garden a new tomb ^(J)in which no one had yet been laid. ⁴² So because of the Jewish ^(K)day of Preparation, ^(L)since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

⁵³ Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and ^(A)laid him in a tomb cut in stone, ^(B)where no one had ever yet been laid.

² And behold, there was a great earthquake, for ^(A)an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.
