²⁶ And ^(A)the inscription of His ^[a]accusation was written above:

THE KING OF THE JEWS.

³⁷ And they ^(A)put up over His head the accusation written against Him:

THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

¹⁸ where they crucified Him, and ^(A)two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center. ^19 (B)Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was:

JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

²⁰ Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.

²¹ Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘He said, “I am the King of the Jews.” ’ ”

²² Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

³⁷ and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”

^38 (A)And an inscription also was ^[a]written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:

THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

² saying, ^(A)“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen ^(B)His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

^2 (A)Then Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

He answered and said to him, “It is as you say.”
