Jesus é Ungido em Betânia(A)
14 Faltavam apenas dois dias para a Páscoa e para a festa dos pães sem fermento. Os chefes dos sacerdotes e os mestres da lei estavam procurando um meio de flagrar Jesus em algum erro[a] e matá-lo. 2 Mas diziam: “Não durante a festa, para que não haja tumulto entre o povo”.
3 Estando Jesus em Betânia, reclinado à mesa na casa de um homem conhecido como Simão, o leproso, aproximou-se dele certa mulher com um frasco de alabastro contendo um perfume muito caro, feito de nardo puro. Ela quebrou o frasco e derramou o perfume sobre a cabeça de Jesus.
4 Alguns dos presentes começaram a dizer uns aos outros, indignados: “Por que este desperdício de perfume? 5 Ele poderia ser vendido por trezentos denários[b], e o dinheiro ser dado aos pobres”. E a repreendiam severamente.
6 “Deixem-na em paz”, disse Jesus. “Por que a estão perturbando? Ela praticou uma boa ação para comigo. 7 Pois os pobres vocês sempre terão com vocês, e poderão ajudá-los sempre que o desejarem. Mas a mim vocês nem sempre terão. 8 Ela fez o que pôde. Derramou o perfume em meu corpo antecipadamente, preparando-o para o sepultamento. 9 Eu lhes asseguro que onde quer que o evangelho for anunciado, em todo o mundo, também o que ela fez será contado em sua memória.”
10 Então Judas Iscariotes, um dos Doze, dirigiu-se aos chefes dos sacerdotes a fim de lhes entregar Jesus. 11 A proposta muito os alegrou, e lhe prometeram dinheiro. Assim, ele procurava uma oportunidade para entregá-lo.
A Ceia do Senhor(B)
12 No primeiro dia da festa dos pães sem fermento, quando se costumava sacrificar o cordeiro pascal, os discípulos de Jesus lhe perguntaram: “Aonde queres que vamos e te preparemos a refeição da Páscoa?”
13 Então ele enviou dois de seus discípulos, dizendo-lhes: “Entrem na cidade, e um homem carregando um pote de água virá ao encontro de vocês. Sigam-no 14 e digam ao dono da casa em que ele entrar: O Mestre pergunta: Onde é o meu salão de hóspedes, no qual poderei comer a Páscoa com meus discípulos? 15 Ele lhes mostrará uma ampla sala no andar superior, mobiliada e pronta. Façam ali os preparativos para nós”.
16 Os discípulos se retiraram, entraram na cidade e encontraram tudo como Jesus lhes tinha dito. E prepararam a Páscoa.
17 Ao anoitecer, Jesus chegou com os Doze. 18 Quando estavam comendo, reclinados à mesa, Jesus disse: “Digo-lhes que certamente um de vocês me trairá, alguém que está comendo comigo”.
19 Eles ficaram tristes e, um por um, lhe disseram: “Com certeza não sou eu!”
20 Afirmou Jesus: “É um dos Doze, alguém que come comigo do mesmo prato. 21 O Filho do homem vai, como está escrito a seu respeito. Mas ai daquele que trai o Filho do homem! Melhor lhe seria não haver nascido”.
22 Enquanto comiam, Jesus tomou o pão, deu graças, partiu-o, e o deu aos discípulos, dizendo: “Tomem; isto é o meu corpo”.
23 Em seguida tomou o cálice, deu graças, ofereceu-o aos discípulos, e todos beberam.
24 E lhes disse: “Isto é o meu sangue da aliança[c], que é derramado em favor de muitos. 25 Eu lhes afirmo que não beberei outra vez do fruto da videira, até aquele dia em que beberei o vinho novo no Reino de Deus”.
26 Depois de terem cantado um hino, saíram para o monte das Oliveiras.
Jesus Prediz que Pedro o Negará(C)
27 Disse-lhes Jesus: “Vocês todos me abandonarão. Pois está escrito:
“‘Ferirei o pastor,
e as ovelhas serão dispersas’[d].
28 Mas, depois de ressuscitar, irei adiante de vocês para a Galiléia”.
29 Pedro declarou: “Ainda que todos te abandonem, eu não te abandonarei!”
30 Respondeu Jesus: “Asseguro-lhe que ainda hoje, esta noite, antes que duas vezes[e] cante o galo, três vezes você me negará”.
31 Mas Pedro insistia ainda mais: “Mesmo que seja preciso que eu morra contigo, nunca te negarei”. E todos os outros disseram o mesmo.
Jesus no Getsêmani(D)
32 Então foram para um lugar chamado Getsêmani, e Jesus disse aos seus discípulos: “Sentem-se aqui enquanto vou orar”. 33 Levou consigo Pedro, Tiago e João, e começou a ficar aflito e angustiado. 34 E lhes disse: “A minha alma está profundamente triste, numa tristeza mortal. Fiquem aqui e vigiem”.
35 Indo um pouco mais adiante, prostrou-se e orava para que, se possível, fosse afastada dele aquela hora. 36 E dizia: “Aba[f], Pai, tudo te é possível. Afasta de mim este cálice; contudo, não seja o que eu quero, mas sim o que tu queres”.
37 Então, voltou aos seus discípulos e os encontrou dormindo. “Simão”, disse ele a Pedro, “você está dormindo? Não pôde vigiar nem por uma hora? 38 Vigiem e orem para que não caiam em tentação. O espírito está pronto, mas a carne é fraca.”
39 Mais uma vez ele se afastou e orou, repetindo as mesmas palavras. 40 Quando voltou, de novo os encontrou dormindo, porque seus olhos estavam pesados. Eles não sabiam o que lhe dizer.
41 Voltando pela terceira vez, ele lhes disse: “Vocês ainda dormem e descansam? Basta! Chegou a hora! Eis que o Filho do homem está sendo entregue nas mãos dos pecadores. 42 Levantem-se e vamos! Aí vem aquele que me trai!”
Jesus é Preso(E)
43 Enquanto ele ainda falava, apareceu Judas, um dos Doze. Com ele estava uma multidão armada de espadas e varas, enviada pelos chefes dos sacerdotes, mestres da lei e líderes religiosos.
44 O traidor havia combinado um sinal com eles: “Aquele a quem eu saudar com um beijo, é ele: prendam-no e levem-no em segurança”. 45 Dirigindo-se imediatamente a Jesus, Judas disse: “Mestre!”, e o beijou. 46 Os homens agarraram Jesus e o prenderam. 47 Então, um dos que estavam por perto puxou a espada e feriu o servo do sumo sacerdote, decepando-lhe a orelha.
48 Disse Jesus: “Estou eu chefiando alguma rebelião, para que vocês venham me prender com espadas e varas? 49 Todos os dias eu estive com vocês, ensinando no templo, e vocês não me prenderam. Mas as Escrituras precisam ser cumpridas”. 50 Então todos o abandonaram e fugiram.
51 Um jovem, vestindo apenas um lençol de linho, estava seguindo Jesus. Quando tentaram prendê-lo, 52 ele fugiu nu, deixando o lençol para trás.
Jesus diante do Sinédrio
53 Levaram Jesus ao sumo sacerdote; e então se reuniram todos os chefes dos sacerdotes, os líderes religiosos e os mestres da lei. 54 Pedro o seguiu de longe até o pátio do sumo sacerdote. Sentando-se ali com os guardas, esquentava-se junto ao fogo.
55 Os chefes dos sacerdotes e todo o Sinédrio[g] estavam procurando depoimentos contra Jesus, para que pudessem condená-lo à morte, mas não encontravam nenhum. 56 Muitos testemunharam falsamente contra ele, mas as declarações deles não eram coerentes.
57 Então se levantaram alguns e declararam falsamente contra ele: 58 “Nós o ouvimos dizer: ‘Destruirei este templo feito por mãos humanas e em três dias construirei outro, não feito por mãos de homens’”. 59 Mas, nem mesmo assim, o depoimento deles era coerente.
60 Depois o sumo sacerdote levantou-se diante deles e perguntou a Jesus: “Você não vai responder à acusação que estes lhe fazem?” 61 Mas Jesus permaneceu em silêncio e nada respondeu.
Outra vez o sumo sacerdote lhe perguntou: “Você é o Cristo, o Filho do Deus Bendito?”
62 “Sou”, disse Jesus. “E vereis o Filho do homem assentado à direita do Poderoso vindo com as nuvens do céu.”
63 O sumo sacerdote, rasgando as próprias vestes, perguntou: “Por que precisamos de mais testemunhas? 64 Vocês ouviram a blasfêmia. Que acham?”
Todos o julgaram digno de morte. 65 Então alguns começaram a cuspir nele; vendaram-lhe os olhos e, dando-lhe murros, diziam: “Profetize!” E os guardas o levaram, dando-lhe tapas.
Pedro Nega Jesus(F)
66 Estando Pedro em baixo, no pátio, uma das criadas do sumo sacerdote passou por ali. 67 Vendo Pedro a aquecer-se, olhou bem para ele e disse:
“Você também estava com Jesus, o Nazareno”.
68 Contudo ele o negou, dizendo: “Não o conheço, nem sei do que você está falando”. E saiu para o alpendre[h].
69 Quando a criada o viu lá, disse novamente aos que estavam por perto: “Esse aí é um deles”. 70 De novo ele negou.
Pouco tempo depois, os que estavam sentados ali perto disseram a Pedro: “Certamente você é um deles. Você é galileu!”
71 Ele começou a se amaldiçoar e a jurar: “Não conheço o homem de quem vocês estão falando!”
72 E logo o galo cantou pela segunda vez[i]. Então Pedro se lembrou da palavra que Jesus lhe tinha dito: “Antes que duas vezes[j] cante o galo, você me negará três vezes”. E se pôs a chorar.

The Plot to Kill Jesus(A)
14 It was two days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the experts in Moses’ Teachings were looking for some underhanded way to arrest Yeshua and to kill him. 2 However, they said, “We shouldn’t arrest him during the festival, or else there will be a riot among the people.”
A Woman Prepares Jesus’ Body for the Tomb(B)
3 Yeshua was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had suffered from a skin disease. While Yeshua was sitting there, a woman went to him. She had a bottle of very expensive perfume made from pure nard. She opened the bottle and poured the perfume on his head.
4 Some who were there were irritated and said to one another, “Why was the perfume wasted like this? 5 This perfume could have been sold for a high price, and the money could have been given to the poor.” So they said some very unkind things to her.
6 Yeshua said, “Leave her alone! Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing for me. 7 You will always have the poor with you and can help them whenever you want. But you will not always have me with you. 8 She did what she could. She came to pour perfume on my body before it is placed in a tomb. 9 I can guarantee this truth: Wherever the Good News is spoken in the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
Judas Plans to Betray Jesus(C)
10 Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve apostles, went to the chief priests to betray Yeshua. 11 They were pleased to hear what Judas had to say and promised to give him money. So he kept looking for a chance to betray Yeshua.
Preparations for the Passover(D)
12 Killing the Passover lamb was customary on the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The disciples asked Yeshua, “Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you?”
13 He sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city. You will meet a man carrying a jug of water. Follow him. 14 When he goes into a house, tell the owner that the teacher asks, ‘Where is my room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’ 15 He will take you upstairs and show you a large room. The room will be completely furnished. Get everything ready for us there.”
16 The disciples left. They went into the city and found everything as Yeshua had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
17 When evening came, Yeshua arrived with the twelve apostles.
Jesus Knows Who Will Betray Him(E)
18 While they were at the table eating, Yeshua said, “I can guarantee this truth: One of you is going to betray me, one who is eating with me!”
19 Feeling hurt, they asked him one by one, “You don’t mean me, do you?”
20 He said to them, “It’s one of you twelve, someone dipping his hand into the bowl with me. 21 The Son of Man is going to die as the Scriptures say he will. But how horrible it will be for that person who betrays the Son of Man! It would have been better for that person if he had never been born.”
The Lord’s Supper(F)
22 While they were eating, Yeshua took bread and blessed it. He broke the bread, gave it to them, and said, “Take this. This is my body.”
23 Then he took a cup, spoke a prayer of thanksgiving, and gave the cup to them. They all drank from it. 24 He said to them, “This is my blood, the blood of the promise.[a] It is poured out for many people.
25 “I can guarantee this truth: I won’t drink this wine again until that day when I drink new wine in the kingdom of God.”
26 After they sang a hymn, they went to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(G)
27 Then Yeshua said to them, “All of you will abandon me. Scripture says,
‘I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered.’
28 “But after I am brought back to life, I will go to Galilee ahead of you.”
29 Peter said to him, “Even if everyone else abandons you, I won’t.”
30 Yeshua said to Peter, “I can guarantee this truth: Tonight, before a rooster crows twice, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”
31 But Peter said very strongly, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never say that I don’t know you.” All the other disciples said the same thing.
Jesus Prays in the Garden of Gethsemane(H)
32 Then they came to a place called Gethsemane. He said to his disciples, “Stay here while I pray.”
33 He took Peter, James, and John with him and began to feel distressed and anguished. 34 He said to them, “My anguish is so great that I feel as if I’m dying. Wait here, and stay awake.”
35 After walking a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if it were possible he might not have to suffer what was ahead of him. 36 He said, “Abba![b] Father! You can do anything. Take this cup of suffering away from me. But let your will be done rather than mine.”
37 He went back and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake for one hour? 38 Stay awake, and pray that you won’t be tempted. You want to do what’s right, but you’re weak.”
39 He went away again and prayed the same prayer as before. 40 He found them asleep because they couldn’t keep their eyes open. They didn’t even know what they should say to him.
41 He came back a third time and said to them, “You might as well sleep now. It’s all over.[c] The time has come for the Son of Man to be handed over to sinners. 42 Get up! Let’s go! The one who is betraying me is near.”
Jesus Is Arrested(I)
43 Just then, while Yeshua was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve apostles, arrived. A crowd carrying swords and clubs was with him. They were from the chief priests, the experts in Moses’ Teachings, and the leaders of the people. 44 Now, the traitor had given them a signal. He said, “The one I kiss is the man you want. Arrest him, and guard him closely as you take him away.”
45 Then Judas quickly stepped up to Yeshua and said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.
46 Some men took hold of Yeshua and arrested him. 47 One of those standing there pulled out his sword and cut off the ear of the chief priest’s servant.
48 Yeshua asked them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as if I were a criminal? 49 I used to teach in the temple courtyard every day. But you didn’t arrest me then. But what the Scriptures say must come true.”
50 Then all the disciples abandoned him and ran away.
51 A certain young man was following Yeshua. He had nothing on but a linen sheet. They tried to arrest him, 52 but he left the linen sheet behind and ran away naked.
The Trial in Front of the Jewish Council(J)
53 The men took Yeshua to the chief priest. All the chief priests, the leaders, and the experts in Moses’ Teachings had gathered together. 54 Peter followed him at a distance and went into the chief priest’s courtyard. He sat with the guards and warmed himself facing the glow of a fire.
55 The chief priests and the whole Jewish council were searching for some testimony against Yeshua in order to execute him. But they couldn’t find any. 56 Many gave false testimony against him, but their statements did not agree.
57 Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against him. They said, 58 “We heard him say, ‘I’ll tear down this temple made by humans, and in three days I’ll build another temple, one not made by human hands.’” 59 But their testimony did not agree even on this point.
60 So the chief priest stood up in the center and asked Yeshua, “Don’t you have any answer to what these men testify against you?”
61 But he was silent.
The chief priest asked him again, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
62 Yeshua answered, “Yes, I am, and you will see the Son of Man in the highest position in heaven. He will be coming with the clouds of heaven.”
63 The chief priest tore his clothes in horror and said, “Why do we need any more witnesses? 64 You’ve heard him dishonor God! What’s your verdict?”
All of them condemned him with the death sentence. 65 Some of them began to spit on him. They covered his face and hit him with their fists. They said to him, “Prophesy!” Even the guards took him and slapped him.
Peter Denies Jesus(K)
66 Peter was in the courtyard. One of the chief priest’s female servants 67 saw Peter warming himself. She looked at him and said, “You, too, were with Yeshua from Nazareth!”
68 But Peter denied it by saying, “I don’t know him, and I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
He went to the entrance. Then a rooster crowed.[d]
69 The servant saw him. Once again she said to those who were standing around, “This man is one of them!” 70 Peter again denied it.
After a little while the men standing there said to Peter again, “It’s obvious you’re one of them. You’re a Galilean!”
71 Then Peter began to curse and swear with an oath, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about!” 72 Just then a rooster crowed a second time. Peter remembered that Yeshua said to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Then Peter began to cry very hard.
