The Plot to Kill Jesus(A)
14 After (B)two days it was the Passover and (C)the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take Him by [a]trickery and put Him to death. 2 But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar of the people.”
The Anointing at Bethany(D)
3 (E)And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly [b]oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. 4 But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, “Why was this fragrant oil wasted? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred (F)denarii and given to the poor.” And they (G)criticized[c] her sharply.
6 But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me. 7 (H)For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; (I)but Me you do not have always. 8 She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. 9 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is (J)preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus(K)
10 (L)Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.
Jesus Celebrates the Passover with His Disciples(M)
12 (N)Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they [d]killed the Passover lamb, His disciples said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?”
13 And He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him. 14 Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’ 15 Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.”
16 So His disciples went out, and came into the city, and found it just as He had said to them; and they prepared the Passover.
17 (O)In the evening He came with the twelve. 18 Now as they sat and ate, Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, (P)one of you who eats with Me will betray Me.”
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say to Him one by one, “Is it I?” [e]And another said, “Is it I?”
20 He answered and said to them, “It is one of the twelve, who dips with Me in the dish. 21 (Q)The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had never been born.”
Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper(R)
22 (S)And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them and said, “Take, [f]eat; this is My (T)body.”
23 Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And He said to them, “This is My blood of the [g]new covenant, which is shed for many. 25 Assuredly, I say to you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
26 (U)And when they had sung [h]a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(V)
27 (W)Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble [i]because of Me this night, for it is written:
(X)‘I will strike the Shepherd,
And the sheep will be scattered.’
28 “But (Y)after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”
29 (Z)Peter said to Him, “Even if all are made to [j]stumble, yet I will not be.”
30 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that today, even this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.”
31 But he spoke more vehemently, “If I have to die with You, I will not deny You!”
And they all said likewise.
The Prayer in the Garden(AA)
32 (AB)Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 And He (AC)took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. 34 Then He said to them, (AD)“My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.”
35 He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. 36 And He said, (AE)“Abba, Father, (AF)all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; (AG)nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”
37 Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour? 38 (AH)Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. (AI)The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
39 Again He went away and prayed, and spoke the same words. 40 And when He returned, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer Him.
41 Then He came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough! (AJ)The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 (AK)Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”
Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane(AL)
43 (AM)And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I (AN)kiss, He is the One; seize Him and lead Him away safely.”
45 As soon as he had come, immediately he went up to Him and said to Him, “Rabbi, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
46 Then they laid their hands on Him and took Him. 47 And one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 (AO)Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? 49 I was daily with you in the temple (AP)teaching, and you did not seize Me. But (AQ)the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”
50 (AR)Then they all forsook Him and fled.
A Young Man Flees Naked
51 Now a certain young man followed Him, having a linen cloth thrown around his naked body. And the young men laid hold of him, 52 and he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.
Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin(AS)
53 (AT)And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and with him were (AU)assembled all the (AV)chief priests, the elders, and the scribes. 54 But (AW)Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.
55 (AX)Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. 56 For many bore (AY)false witness against Him, but their testimonies [k]did not agree.
57 Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying, 58 “We heard Him say, (AZ)‘I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.’ ” 59 But not even then did their testimony agree.
60 (BA)And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?” 61 But (BB)He kept silent and answered nothing.
(BC)Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”
62 Jesus said, “I am. (BD)And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
63 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the (BE)blasphemy! What do you think?”
And they all condemned Him to be deserving of (BF)death.
65 Then some began to (BG)spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers [l]struck Him with the palms of their hands.
Peter Denies Jesus, and Weeps(BH)
66 (BI)Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came. 67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with (BJ)Jesus of Nazareth.”
68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are saying.” And he went out on the porch, and a rooster crowed.
69 (BK)And the servant girl saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by, “This is one of them.” 70 But he denied it again.
(BL)And a little later those who stood by said to Peter again, “Surely you are one of them; (BM)for you are a Galilean, [m]and your [n]speech shows it.”
71 Then he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this Man of whom you speak!”
72 (BN)A second time the rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And when he thought about it, he wept.

Slovo na cestu
Žena pomazává Ježíše drahocennou mastí
14 1-9 Dva dny před židovskými Velikonocemi byl Ježíš v Betanii hostem u Šimona, zvaného Malomocný. Právě byli u stolu, když do domu přišla žena s alabastrovou nádobkou drahocenného vonného oleje z pravého nardu. Otevřela ji a olej vylila na Ježíšovu hlavu.
Některým se to zdálo přehnané a říkali si mezi sebou: „K čemu takové plýtvání? Vždyť ten olej měl cenu přes tři sta denárů. Mohli jsme ho prodat a výtěžek rozdat chudým.“ Vyčetli to i té ženě.
Ale Ježíš se jí ujal: „Nechte ji. Proč jí kazíte radost? Vždyť ona to myslí dobře. Chudých bude vždycky dost a budete mít příležitost jim pomáhat, ale já od vás odejdu. Udělala, co mohla. Vlastně předem ošetřila moje tělo, jako se to dělá před pohřbem. Poslyšte, co vám teď řeknu: Kdekoliv po světě se bude mluvit o mně, tam se také bude připomínat tento její čin.“
Mezitím se radili velekněží a učitelé zákona, jak by Ježíše nenápadně zatkli a odstranili. Usnesli se: „Nesmíme to udělat o svátcích, aby nevznikly nepokoje, když je v Jeruzalémě mnoho poutníků.“
Jidáš domlouvá zradu Ježíše
10 Jidáš Iškariotský, jeden z dvanácti Ježíšových učedníků, nabídl vedoucím židovským kněžím, že jim Ježíše vydá, až bude na nějakém opuštěném místě.
11 To právě potřebovali, a tak mu za to slíbili peněžitou odměnu. Od té chvíle čekal Jidáš na svou příležitost.
Učedníci připravují velikonoční večeři
12 První den svátků, kdy se zabíjel a jedl velikonoční beránek, zeptali se učedníci Ježíše: „Kde máme připravit velikonoční večeři?“
13 Ježíš poslal dva z nich do města; měli potkat člověka se džbánem vody 14 a sledovat ho až do domu. Majiteli toho domu měli říci: „Mistr prosí, abys nám ukázal místnost, kde máme jíst velikonoční večeři.“ 15 A on jim měl ukázat velikou jídelnu v patře, zařízenou a připravenou. Tam měli prostřít k jídlu.
16 Dva z učedníků šli tedy do města, podle Ježíšova návodu našli dům a připravili velikonočního beránka.
Ježíš naposledy večeří s učedníky
17 Večer tam přišel Ježíš s ostatními. 18 Při večeři se na ně obrátil: „Poslyšte, co vám řeknu: Jeden z vás, kteří jste se mnou u stolu, mě zradí.“
19 Zaraženě na sebe pohlédli: „Koho tím míní? Snad ne mne?“
20 Opakoval jim: „Je to jeden z vás dvanácti, který si nabírá ze stejné mísy se mnou. 21 Jdu cestou, která je mi určena, ale běda tomu člověku, který se propůjčil ke zradě. Bylo by pro něho lépe, kdyby se byl nenarodil.“
22 Na závěr večeře vzdal Ježíš díky Bohu za chléb, lámal ho a podával kousky stolovníkům se slovy: „Jezte, to je moje tělo!“
23 Pak se pomodlil nad kalichem vína a podával jim ho všem se slovy: 24 „To je moje krev, prolitá za mnohé jako pečeť nové smlouvy mezi Bohem a člověkem. 25 A já vám říkám, že už neokusím jiného vína až do té doby, než s vámi zasednu k hostině v Božím království.“
Ježíš předpovídá Petrovo zapření
26 Nakonec zazpívali píseň a vyšli ven na Olivovou horu. 27 Cestou jim Ježíš řekl: „Tuto noc mě všichni opustíte. Prorok o tom napsal:
‚Zabijí pastýře
a ovce se rozprchnou.‘
28 Ale vstanu z mrtvých a půjdu napřed do Galileje, kde se setkáme.“
29 „I kdyby tě všichni zradili, já tě neopustím,“ prohlásil Petr.
30 „Poslyš, co ti řeknu,“ odvětil Ježíš. „Dřív než kohout ráno podruhé zakokrhá, třikrát mne zapřeš.“
31 „Kdybych měl i zemřít, nezapřu tě,“ zapřísahal se Petr. Ostatní slibovali podobně.
Ježíš prožívá muka v zahradě
32 Přišli do olivového sadu, zvaného Getsemane. „Počkejte tady na mne, než se pomodlím,“ požádal Ježíš učedníky.
33 Vzal s sebou jenom Petra, Jakuba a Jana. Ti viděli, že Ježíše se zmocňuje strach a tíseň. 34 Netajil se tím: „Je mi těžko až k smrti. Zůstaňte tady a bděte se mnou.“
35 Odešel kousek dál, padl na zem a modlil se, aby byl ušetřen nastávajících hodin, kdyby to bylo možné.
36 „Otče, Otče,“ volal, „ty máš všechny možnosti. Ušetři mne toho kalicha utrpení. Nehleď však na to, co chci já, podrobím se poslušně tvé vůli.“
37 Vrátil se k těm, které vzal s sebou, a viděl, že spí. Probudil Petra: „Šimone, jak můžeš spát? To nedokážeš se mnou bdít ani tu chvíli? 38 Probuďte se a modlete se, abyste obstáli v přicházející zkoušce. Odhodlání nestačí, když člověk nemá dost sil.“
39 A opět odešel a modlil se jako předtím. 40 Když se k nim vrátil podruhé, spali zase, protože byli velmi unaveni. Nevěděli, co říci na svou omluvu.
41 Když přišel potřetí, řekl jim: „Ještě spíte? Ještě odpočíváte? Už dost! Přichází chvíle, kdy Syn člověka bude vydán do rukou zlých lidí. 42 Vstaňte a pojďte, můj zrádce už je zde.“
Ježíš je zatčen
43 Jen to dořekl, přicházel Jidáš – jeden z dvanácti nejbližších, a s ním velký zástup mužů, ozbrojených meči a obušky. Byla to chrámová stráž, poslaná velekněžími.
44 Aby se ve tmě nezmýlili, zrádce si s nimi smluvil toto znamení: „Kterého z nich políbím na pozdrav, to je on. Chyťte ho a dobře držte.“ 45 Přistoupil tedy k Ježíši a se slovem „Mistře“ ho políbil. 46 Ozbrojenci Ježíše popadli a zajali ho. 47 Jeden z jeho učedníků vytasil meč a sekl po jednom z útočníků tak, že mu uťal ucho.
48 Ježíš se hájil pouze slovy: „Cožpak jsem zločinec, že jste na mne přitáhli jako do boje? 49 Každý den jsem přece učíval v chrámu, ale tam jste se na mne neodvážili. Ani nevíte, jak přesně plníte proroctví řečená o mně.“
50 Ježíšovi učedníci se rozprchli. 51 Pouze jeden chlapec narychlo oblečený sledoval Ježíše z povzdálí. Strážci ho chytili za plášť, 52 ale on se z něj vyvlékl a utekl nahý.
Kaifáš vyslýchá Ježíše
53 Ježíše odvedli k veleknězi, který ihned svolal nejvyšší židovskou radu. 54 Petr se opatrně vydal za nimi, a tak se dostal až na nádvoří veleknězova paláce. Posadil se k ohni strážců a hřál se s nimi.
55 Mezitím velekněz a jeho poradní sbor marně hledali člověka, který by dosvědčil, že Ježíš spáchal nějaký hrdelní zločin. 56 Měli dost falešných svědků, ale jejich výpovědi si příliš odporovaly.
57-58 Několik se jich shodlo na Ježíšově výroku: „Zbořím tento chrám, postavený rukama. Za tři dny pak postavím jiný a nebude k tomu třeba lidských rukou.“ 59 Ale ani tato svědectví nebyla jednotná.
60 Velekněz se ujal slova a zeptal se Ježíše: „Jak vyvrátíš tato obvinění?“ 61 Ježíš však mlčel a nijak se nehájil.
„Jsi Kristus, Boží Syn?“ dotíral velekněz.
62 „Ano, jsem,“ potvrdil Ježíš. „Uvidíte mne, jak sedím po Boží pravici a jak se vracím na zem z nebeských oblaků.“
63 Teď velekněz roztrhl svoje vnější roucho na znamení pobouření a vykřikl: „Nač ještě svědky? 64 Sami jste slyšeli, jak se rouhá. Co si zaslouží?“
Jednohlasně ho odsoudili k smrti. Někteří se vrhli dopředu, 65 plivali na Ježíše, pak mu zavázali oči, políčkovali ho a křičeli:
„Hádej, kdo to byl, ty proroku?“ A také strážci ho začali bít obušky.
Petr zapírá, že zná Ježíše
66-67 Mezitím jedna z veleknězových služek uviděla Petra u ohně, prohlédla si ho a řekla: „Ty jsi také jeden z těch, co chodili s tím Nazaretským Ježíšem!“
68 „Nechápu, o čem mluvíš,“ zapíral. Vykradl se z nádvoří a tehdy poprvé zakokrhal kohout.
69 Služka ho za chvíli opět zahlédla a začala vykládat okolostojícím: „Je to jeden z jeho přívrženců!“
70 Petr to však znovu popřel.
Kdosi se na něj osopil: „Určitě k nim patříš, máš taky galilejský přízvuk.“
71 Tu se Petr začal dušovat a přísahal: „Neznám vůbec toho člověka, o kterém mluvíte.“
72 A právě tehdy zakokrhal kohout podruhé. To připomnělo Petrovi Ježíšova slova, že ho třikrát zapře, než kohout dvakrát zakokrhá. Vyběhl ven a propukl v pláč.

2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

Onda anslag mot Jesus
14 Det var nu två dagar kvar till påsken[a] och det osyrade brödets högtid. Översteprästerna och de skriftlärda sökte efter ett sätt att gripa Jesus med list och döda honom. 2 De sade: "Inte under högtiden, för att det inte skall uppstå oro bland folket."
En kvinna smörjer Jesus
3 När Jesus var i Betania och låg till bords i Simon den spetälskes hus, kom en kvinna som hade en alabasterflaska med dyrbar äkta nardusolja. Hon bröt upp flaskan och hällde ut oljan över hans huvud. 4 Några blev upprörda och sade: "Varför detta slöseri med oljan! 5 Den hade man kunnat sälja för mer än tre hundra denarer och ge åt de fattiga." Och de grälade på henne. 6 Men Jesus sade: "Låt henne vara! Varför oroar ni henne? Hon har gjort en god gärning mot mig. 7 De fattiga har ni alltid hos er, och när ni vill kan ni göra gott mot dem, men mig har ni inte alltid. 8 Hon har fullgjort sin uppgift. I förväg har hon smort min kropp till begravningen. 9 Amen säger jag er: Överallt i världen där evangeliet predikas, skall man också berätta vad hon gjorde och komma ihåg henne."
Judas förråder Jesus
10 Men Judas Iskariot, en av de tolv, gick till översteprästerna för att utlämna Jesus åt dem. 11 När de hörde det blev de glada och lovade honom en summa pengar. Sedan sökte han efter ett lämpligt tillfälle att förråda honom.
Den sista påskalammsmåltiden
12 På första dagen av det osyrade brödets högtid, när man slaktade påskalammet, frågade hans lärjungar honom: "Vart vill du att vi skall gå och ställa i ordning, så att du kan äta påskalammet?" 13 Då sände han två av sina lärjungar och sade till dem: "Gå in i staden. Där kommer en man som bär en kruka vatten att möta er. Följ honom. 14 Och där han går in skall ni säga till husets ägare: Mästaren frågar: Var är rummet där jag kan äta påskalammet med mina lärjungar? 15 Då skall han visa er ett stort rum i övre våningen. Det är iordningställt och färdigt. Red till åt oss där." 16 Lärjungarna gick och kom in i staden, och de fann att det var som Jesus hade sagt dem. Och de redde till påskalammet.
17 När det blev kväll, kom Jesus med de tolv. 18 Medan de låg till bords och åt, sade Jesus: "Amen säger jag er: En av er kommer att utlämna mig - och han äter med mig." 19 Då blev de bedrövade och frågade honom, den ene efter den andre: "Inte är det väl jag?" 20 Jesus svarade dem: "Det är en av er tolv, den som nu tillsammans med mig doppar i skålen. 21 Ty Människosonen går bort, så som det står skrivet om honom. Men ve den människa som förråder Människosonen! Det hade varit bättre för den människan om hon aldrig hade blivit född."
Den första nattvarden
22 Medan de åt tog Jesus ett bröd, tackade Gud, bröt det och gav åt dem och sade: "Tag, detta är min kropp." 23 Och han tog en bägare, tackade Gud och gav åt dem, och de drack alla ur den. 24 Och han sade till dem: "Detta är mitt blod, förbundsblodet, som är utgjutet för många. 25 Amen säger jag er: Jag skall inte dricka av det som vinstocken ger, förrän den dag då jag dricker det nytt i Guds rike." 26 När de sedan hade sjungit lovsången,[b] gick de ut till Oljeberget.
Jesus förutsäger Petrus förnekelse
27 Jesus sade till dem: "Ni skall alla komma på fall. Det står skrivet: Jag skall slå herden, och fåren skall skingras. [c] 28 Men när jag har uppstått, skall jag gå före er till Galileen." 29 Då sade Petrus till honom: "Även om alla andra överger dig, skall jag inte göra det." 30 Jesus svarade: "Amen säger jag dig: Just denna natt, innan tuppen har galt två gånger, skall du tre gånger förneka mig." 31 Men Petrus försäkrade ännu ivrigare: "Om jag än måste dö med dig skall jag aldrig förneka dig." Så sade även alla andra.
Jesus i Getsemane
32 De kom därefter till ett ställe som heter Getsemane. Jesus sade till sina lärjungar: "Stanna här, medan jag ber." 33 Och han tog med sig Petrus, Jakob och Johannes. Han greps av ängslan och ångest 34 och sade till dem: "Min själ är djupt bedrövad, ända till döds. Stanna här och vaka." 35 Han gick lite längre fram och föll ner på jorden och bad att han om möjligt skulle bli förskonad från denna stund. 36 Han sade: "Abba,[d] Fader! Allt är möjligt för dig. Tag denna kalk ifrån mig. Men inte som jag vill utan som du vill." 37 När Jesus kom tillbaka fann han att de sov. Då sade han till Petrus: "Simon, sover du? Kunde du inte hålla dig vaken en kort stund? 38 Vaka och bed att ni inte kommer i frestelse. Anden är villig, men köttet är svagt." 39 Han gick bort igen och bad samma bön. 40 Då han kom tillbaka fann han att de sov. Deras ögon var tunga av sömn, och de visste inte vad de skulle svara honom. 41 Han kom tillbaka för tredje gången och sade till dem: "Ni sover nu och vilar er. Det är nog. Stunden har kommit. Se, Människosonen skall utlämnas i syndarnas händer. 42 Stig upp, låt oss gå! Han som förråder mig är här."
Jesus fängslas
43 Och se, medan Jesus ännu talade kom Judas, en av de tolv, och efter honom en folkhop med svärd och påkar. De kom från översteprästerna och de skriftlärda och de äldste. 44 Förrädaren hade avtalat med dem om ett tecken och sagt: "Den som jag kysser den är det. Grip honom och för bort honom under säker bevakning!" 45 När Judas kom, gick han genast fram till Jesus och sade: "Rabbi", och kysste honom. 46 Och de grep Jesus och fängslade honom. 47 Men en av dem som stod bredvid drog sitt svärd och högg till översteprästens tjänare och högg så av honom örat.
48 Och Jesus sade till dem: "Som mot en förbrytare har ni gått ut med svärd och påkar för att gripa mig. 49 Fastän jag varje dag har varit hos er i templet och undervisat, har ni inte gripit mig. Men Skrifterna skulle uppfyllas." 50 Då övergav alla honom och flydde. 51 Och en ung man, klädd i en linneskjorta på bara kroppen, följde efter Jesus. Honom grep de tag i. 52 Men han lämnade linneskjortan kvar och flydde undan naken.
Jesus inför Stora rådet
53 De förde Jesus till översteprästen, och där samlades alla översteprästerna[e] och de äldste och de skriftlärda. 54 Petrus följde Jesus på avstånd ända in på översteprästens gård. Där satt han bland rättstjänarna och värmde sig vid elden. 55 Översteprästerna och hela Stora rådet försökte finna något vittnesmål mot Jesus för att kunna döma honom till döden, men de fann inget. 56 Många vittnade falskt mot honom, men deras vittnesmål stämde inte överens. 57 Då steg några fram och avlade detta falska vittnesmål mot honom: 58 "Vi har hört att han har sagt: Jag skall bryta ner detta tempel som är byggt med händer, och på tre dagar bygga upp ett annat som inte är gjort med händer." 59 Men inte heller i detta fall stämde deras vittnesmål överens. 60 Då reste sig översteprästen och steg fram och frågade Jesus: "Svarar du inte på vad dessa vittnar mot dig?" 61 Men Jesus teg och svarade inte. Översteprästen frågade honom vidare: "Är du Messias, den Välsignades son?" 62 Jesus svarade: " Jag Är.[f] Och ni skall få se Människosonen sitta på Maktens högra sida och komma bland himlens moln." 63 Då rev översteprästen sönder sina kläder och sade: "Behöver vi några fler vittnen? 64 Ni har hört hädelsen. Vad anser ni?" Alla fann de honom skyldig till döden. 65 Några började spotta på honom, band för hans ögon och slog honom med knytnävarna och sade: "Profetera!" Och rättstjänarna tog emot honom med hugg och slag.
Petrus förnekar Jesus
66 Medan Petrus befann sig nere på gården, kom en av översteprästens tjänsteflickor dit. 67 När hon fick se Petrus där han satt och värmde sig, såg hon på honom och sade: "Du var också med den där Jesus från Nasaret." 68 Men han nekade: "Jag vet inte vad du talar om och begriper det inte." Sedan gick han ut på den yttre gården. Då gol tuppen.[g] 69 Tjänsteflickan såg honom, och hon sade också till dem som stod i närheten: "Han är en av dem." 70 Men Petrus nekade igen. Efter en kort stund sade också de som stod där till Petrus: "Visst är du en av dem. Du är ju galilé." 71 Men han förbannade och svor: "Jag känner inte den där mannen som ni talar om." 72 Strax gol tuppen för andra gången. Då kom Petrus ihåg det som Jesus hade sagt till honom: "Innan tuppen hinner gala två gånger, skall du tre gånger förneka mig." Och han brast i gråt.
