^72 (A)A second time the rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And when he thought about it, he wept.

³⁰ Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that today, even this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.”

⁶⁸ But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are saying.” And he went out on the porch, and a rooster crowed.

¹⁰ For ^(A)godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; ^(B)but the sorrow of the world produces death.

⁶² So Peter went out and wept bitterly.

⁶⁰ But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!”

Immediately, while he was still speaking, ^[a]the rooster crowed.

¹⁷ “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, ^(A)I have sinned against heaven and before you, ¹⁹ and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’

⁷⁴ Then ^(A)he began to ^[a]curse and ^[b]swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!”

Immediately a rooster crowed. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, ^(B)“Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.

³⁴ Jesus said to him, ^(A)“Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

³¹ Then ^(A)you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good; and you ^(B)will ^[a]loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and your abominations.
