A Multitude from the Great Tribulation

After these things I looked, and behold, (A)a great multitude which no one could number, (B)of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, (C)clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, (D)“Salvation belongs to our God (E)who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 (F)All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and (G)worshiped God, 12 (H)saying:

“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,
Be to our God forever and ever.
Amen.”

13 Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in (I)white robes, and where did they come from?”

14 And I said to him, [a]“Sir, you know.”

So he said to me, (J)“These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and (K)washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will (L)dwell among them. 16 (M)They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; (N)the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne (O)will shepherd them and lead them to [b]living fountains of waters. (P)And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

15 And for this reason (A)He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that (B)those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

The Mediator’s Death Necessary

16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For (C)a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. 18 (D)Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. 19 For when Moses had spoken every [a]precept to all the people according to the law, (E)he took the blood of calves and goats, (F)with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, (G)“This is the (H)blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” 21 Then likewise (I)he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And according to the law almost all things are [b]purified with blood, and (J)without shedding of blood there is no [c]remission.

Greatness of Christ’s Sacrifice

23 Therefore it was necessary that (K)the copies of the things in the heavens should be [d]purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

Worthy Is the Lamb

Now when He had taken the scroll, (A)the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the (B)prayers of the saints. And (C)they sang a new song, saying:

(D)“You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain,
And (E)have redeemed us to God (F)by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 And have made [a]us (G)kings[b] and (H)priests to our God;
And [c]we shall reign on the earth.”
