Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper^(A)

^22 (B)And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them and said, “Take, ^[a]eat; this is My ^(C)body.”

^16 (A)The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the ^[a]communion of the blood of Christ? ^(B)The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? ¹⁷ For ^(C)we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.

²⁴ And He said to them, “This is My blood of the ^[a]new covenant, which is shed for many.

^26 (B)And as they were eating, ^(C)Jesus took bread, ^[a]blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; ^(D)this is My body.”

²⁷ Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ^(E)“Drink from it, all of you. ²⁸ For ^(F)this is My blood ^(G)of the ^[b]new covenant, which is shed ^(H)for many for the ^[c]remission of sins. ²⁹ But ^(I)I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on ^(J)until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

³⁰ Now it came to pass, as ^(A)He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.

¹⁸ for ^(A)I say to you, ^[a]I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

^19 (B)And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My ^(C)body which is given for you; ^(D)do this in remembrance of Me.”

²⁰ Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, ^(E)“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

²³ For ^(B)I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: ^(C)that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; ²⁴ and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ^[a]“Take, eat; this is My body which is ^[b]broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” ²⁵ In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

²⁶ For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death ^(D)till He comes.

Examine Yourself

²⁷ Therefore whoever eats ^(E)this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and ^[c]blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But ^(F)let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. ²⁹ For he who eats and drinks ^[d]in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the ^[e]Lord’s body.

^48 (A)I am the bread of life. ^49 (B)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. ^50 (C)This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread ^(D)which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and ^(E)the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

⁵² The Jews therefore ^(F)quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”

⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless ^(G)you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. ^54 (H)Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For My flesh is ^[a]food indeed, and My blood is ^[b]drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood ^(I)abides in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. ^58 (J)This is the bread which came down from heaven—not ^(K)as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

²³ however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks—
