⁵ Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you.^(A)

⁸ See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy,^(A) which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces^[a] of this world^(B) rather than on Christ.

⁶ Let no one deceive you^(A) with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath^(B) comes on those who are disobedient.^(C)

The Judgment of Satan

⁷ When the thousand years are over,^(A) Satan will be released from his prison ⁸ and will go out to deceive the nations^(B) in the four corners of the earth^(C)—Gog and Magog^(D)—and to gather them for battle.^(E) In number they are like the sand on the seashore.^(F)

On Denying the Incarnation

4 Dear friends,^(A) do not believe every spirit,^(B) but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.^(C)

³ Don’t let anyone deceive you^(A) in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion^(B) occurs and the man of lawlessness^[a] is revealed,^(C) the man doomed to destruction.

⁸ He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them.^(A)
