⁵ Jesus told them, “Watch out that no one deceives you.

Persecutions Predicted

⁹ “But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to local courts,^[a](A) and you will be flogged^(B) in the synagogues.^(C) You will stand before governors and kings^(D) because of me,^(E) as a witness^(F) to them.^(G)

²³ And you must watch! I have told you everything in advance.

²⁹ In the same way, when you see these things happening, recognize^[a] that he^[b] is near—at the door.

³³ “Watch! Be alert!^[a] For you don’t know when the time^(A) is coming.^(B)

³⁷ And what I say to you, I say to everyone: Be alert!”
