³² “But about that day or hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.^(A)

⁷ He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority.^(A)

The Necessity for Watchfulness

³⁶ “But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son,^[a] but only the Father. ³⁷ For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.^{(A) 38} For as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, ³⁹ and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so, too, will be the coming of the Son of Man. ⁴⁰ Then two will be in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left.^{(B) 41} Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken, and one will be left. ⁴² Keep awake, therefore, for you do not know on what day^[b] your Lord is coming.^(C)

¹³ Keep awake, therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.^[a](A)

³ Remember, then, what you received and heard; obey it and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.^(A)

5 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anything written to you.^{(A) 2} For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.^(B)

²⁶ “Then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in clouds’ with great power and glory.^{(A) 27} Then he will send out the angels and gather the^[a] elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.

⁶ But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be destroyed with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.^[a](A)

¹⁹ After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.^(A)
