The Abomination of Desolation

14 “But when you see (A)the abomination of desolation standing where he ought not to be ((B)let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 (C)Let the one who is on (D)the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything out, 16 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 17 And (E)alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19 For in those days there will be (F)such (G)tribulation as has not been (H)from the beginning of the creation that (I)God created until now, and never will be. 20 And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for (J)the sake of the elect, whom (K)he chose, he shortened the days. 21 And (L)then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22 (M)For false christs and false prophets will arise and (N)perform signs and wonders, (O)to lead astray, if possible, (P)the elect. 23 But (Q)be on guard; (R)I have told you all things beforehand.

The Coming of the Son of Man

24 “But in those days, after (S)that tribulation, (T)the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and (U)the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see (V)the Son of Man coming in clouds (W)with great power and glory. 27 And then (X)he will send out the angels and (Y)gather (Z)his elect from (AA)the four winds, from (AB)the ends of the earth (AC)to the ends of heaven.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, (AD)at the very gates. 30 (AE)Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 (AF)Heaven and earth will pass away, but (AG)my words will not pass away.

24 Then they (A)despised (B)the pleasant land,
having (C)no faith in his promise.
25 They (D)murmured in their tents,
and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore he (E)raised his hand and swore to them
that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
27 and would make their offspring fall among the nations,
    (F)scattering them among the lands.

28 Then they (G)yoked themselves to the (H)Baal of Peor,
    and ate sacrifices offered to (I)the dead;
29 they provoked the Lord to anger with their deeds,
and a plague broke out among them.
30 Then (J)Phinehas stood up and intervened,
    and the plague was stayed.
31 And that was (K)counted to him as righteousness
    from generation to generation forever.

32 They (L)angered him at the waters of Meribah,
and it went ill with Moses on their account,
33 for they (M)made his spirit bitter,[a]
and he (N)spoke rashly with his lips.

34 They did not (O)destroy the peoples,
    (P)as the Lord commanded them,
35 but they (Q)mixed with the nations
and learned to do as they did.
36 They served their idols,
which became (R)a snare to them.
37 They (S)sacrificed their sons
    and their daughters to (T)the demons;
38 they poured out innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and the land was (U)polluted with blood.
39 Thus they (V)became unclean by their acts,
and (W)played the whore in their deeds.

40 Then (X)the anger of the Lord was kindled against (Y)his people,
    and he abhorred his (Z)heritage;
41 he (AA)gave them into the hand of the nations,
so that those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies (AB)oppressed them,
and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 (AC)Many times he delivered them,
but they were rebellious in their (AD)purposes
and were (AE)brought low through their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress,
    when he (AF)heard their cry.
45 For their sake he (AG)remembered his covenant,
and (AH)relented according to (AI)the abundance of his steadfast love.
46 He caused them to be (AJ)pitied
by all those who held them captive.

47 (AK)Save us, O Lord our God,
and (AL)gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
    and glory in your praise.

48 (AM)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting!
(AN)And let all the people say, “Amen!”
    (AO)Praise the Lord!
