The Parable about the Tenant Farmers(A)

12 Then Jesus[a] began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the wine press, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went abroad. At the right time, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect from them a share of the produce from the vineyard. But the farmers[b] grabbed the servant,[c] beat him, and sent him back empty-handed. Again, the man[d] sent another servant to them. They beat the servant[e] over the head and treated him shamefully. Then the man[f] sent another, and that one they killed. So it was with many other servants.[g] Some of these they beat, and others they killed. He still had one more person to send,[h] a son whom he loved. Finally, he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But those farmers told one another, ‘This is the heir. Come on, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours!’ So they grabbed him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.

“Now what will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come, execute the farmers, and give the vineyard to others. 10 Haven’t you ever read this Scripture:

‘The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone.[i]
11 This was the Lord’s[j] doing,
    and it is amazing in our eyes’?”[k]

12 They were trying to arrest him but were afraid of the crowd. Realizing that he had spoken this parable against them, they left him alone and went away.

A Question about Paying Taxes(B)

13 Then they sent some Pharisees and some Herodians[l] to him, intending to trap him in what he said. 14 They came and told him, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere. You don’t favor any individual, because you pay no attention to external appearance. Instead, you teach the way of God truthfully. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay them or shouldn’t we?”

15 Seeing through their hypocrisy, Jesus[m] replied to them, “Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.”

16 So they brought one. Then he asked them, “Whose face and name are on this?”

They told him, “Caesar’s.”

17 So Jesus told them, “Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were utterly amazed at him.

A Question about the Resurrection(C)

18 Then some Sadducees, who claim there is no resurrection, came to Jesus[n] and asked him, 19 “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no child, he should marry the widow and have children for his brother.[o] 20 There were seven brothers. The first one married and died without having children. 21 Then the second married her and died without having children, and so did the third. 22 None of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died, too. 23 In the resurrection, whose wife will she be, since all seven had married her?”[p]

24 Jesus answered them, “Aren’t you mistaken because you don’t know the Scriptures or God’s power? 25 When people[q] rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven. 26 As for the dead being raised, haven’t you read in the book of Moses, in the story about the bush, how God said, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?[r] 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

The Greatest Commandment(D)

28 Then one of the scribes came near and heard the Sadducees[s] arguing with one another. He saw how well Jesus[t] answered them, so he asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of them all?”

29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord[u] our God is one Lord,[v] 30 and you must love the Lord[w] your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’[x] 31 The second is this: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’[y] No other commandment is greater than these.”

32 Then the scribe told him, “Well said,[z] Teacher! You have told the truth that ‘God[aa] is one, and there is no other besides him.’[ab] 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

34 When Jesus saw how wisely the man[ac] answered, he told him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” After that, no one dared to ask him another question.

A Question about David’s Son(E)

35 While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he asked, “How can the scribes say that the Messiah[ad] is David’s son? 36 David himself said by the Holy Spirit,

‘The Lord[ae] told my Lord,
    “Sit at my right hand,
        until I put your enemies under your feet.”’[af]

37 David himself calls him ‘Lord,’ so how can he be his son?” And the large crowd kept listening to him with delight.

Jesus Denounces the Scribes(F)

38 As he taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes! They like to walk around in long robes, to be greeted in the marketplaces, 39 and to have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 40 They devour widows’ houses[ag] and say long prayers to cover it up. They will receive greater condemnation!”

The Widow’s Offering(G)

41 As Jesus[ah] sat facing the offering box, he watched how the crowd was dropping their money into it.[ai] Many rich people were dropping in large amounts. 42 Then a destitute widow came and dropped in two small copper coins,[aj] worth about a cent.[ak] 43 He called his disciples and told them, “I tell all of you[al] with certainty, this destitute widow has dropped in more than everyone who is contributing to the offering box, 44 because all of them contributed out of their surplus, but out of her poverty she has given everything she had to live on.”

And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.

And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.

And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.

Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.'

And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

11 This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

12 And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.

17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?

36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

40 Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers(A)

The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?(G)

13 (H)Then they sent to Him some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, to catch Him in His words. 14 When they had come, they said to Him, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and [d]care about no one; for You do not [e]regard the person of men, but teach the (I)way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? 15 Shall we pay, or shall we not pay?”

But He, knowing their (J)hypocrisy, said to them, “Why do you test Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see it. 16 So they brought it.

And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”

17 And Jesus answered and said to them, [f]“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to (K)God the things that are God’s.”

And they marveled at Him.

The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection?(L)

The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?(S)

28 (T)Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, [i]perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the [j]first commandment of all?”

34 Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”

Jesus: How Can David Call His Descendant Lord?(AB)

35 (AC)Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David? 36 For David himself said (AD)by the Holy Spirit:

“Sit at My right hand,

The Widow’s Two Mites(AM)

Parábola de los labradores criminales (Mt 21,33-46; Lc 20,9-19)

12 Jesús les contó entonces esta parábola:

— Un hombre plantó una viña, la cercó con una valla, construyó un lagar y levantó una torre; luego la arrendó a unos labradores y se fue de viaje. En el tiempo oportuno envió un criado para percibir de los labradores la parte correspondiente del fruto de la viña. Pero ellos le echaron mano al criado, lo golpearon y lo mandaron de vuelta con las manos vacías. Volvió a enviarles otro criado, y ellos lo hirieron en la cabeza y lo llenaron de injurias. Luego mandó a otro, y a este lo asesinaron. Y lo mismo hicieron con otros muchos; a unos los hirieron y a otros los mataron. Cuando al amo ya únicamente le quedaba su hijo querido, lo envió por último a los viñadores pensando: “A mi hijo lo respetarán”. Pero aquellos labradores se dijeron unos a otros: “Este es el heredero. Matémoslo, y la herencia será nuestra”. Y, echándole mano, lo asesinaron y lo arrojaron fuera de la viña. ¿Qué hará, pues, el dueño de la viña? Llegará, hará perecer a esos labradores y dará la viña a otros. 10 ¿No han leído ustedes este pasaje de las Escrituras:

La piedra que desecharon los constructores,
se ha convertido en la piedra principal.
11 Esto lo ha hecho el Señor,
y nos resulta verdaderamente maravilloso?

12 Sus adversarios comprendieron que Jesús se había referido a ellos con esta parábola. Por eso trataban de apresarlo, aunque finalmente desistieron y se marcharon, porque temían a la gente.

La cuestión del tributo al emperador (Mt 22,15-22; Lc 20,20-26)

13 Los fariseos y los del partido de Herodes enviaron algunos de los suyos con el encargo de sorprender a Jesús en alguna palabra comprometedora. 14 Vinieron, pues, y le preguntaron:

— Maestro, sabemos que tú eres sincero y que no te preocupa el qué dirán, pues no juzgas a la gente por las apariencias, sino que enseñas con toda verdad a vivir como Dios quiere; así pues, ¿estamos o no estamos obligados a pagar el tributo al emperador romano? ¿Tenemos o no tenemos que dárselo? 15 Jesús, conociendo la hipocresía que había en ellos, les contestó:

— ¿Por qué me ponen trampas? Tráiganme un denario para que yo lo vea.

16 Ellos se lo presentaron y Jesús les preguntó:

— ¿De quién es esta efigie y esta inscripción?

Le contestaron:

— Del emperador.

17 Entonces Jesús les dijo:

— Pues den al emperador lo que es del emperador, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

Con esta respuesta quedaron estupefactos.

La cuestión de la resurrección (Mt 22,23-33; Lc 20,27-40)

18 Después de esto vinieron unos saduceos que, como dicen que no hay resurrección, hicieron a Jesús esta pregunta:

19 — Maestro, Moisés nos dejó escrito que si el hermano de uno muere y deja esposa , pero no hijos, el hermano mayor superviviente deberá casarse con la viuda para dar descendencia al hermano difunto. 20 Pues bien, hubo una vez siete hermanos; el primero de ellos se casó, pero murió sin haber tenido descendencia. 21 Entonces el segundo hermano se casó con la viuda, pero él también murió sin dejar descendencia. Lo mismo pasó con el tercero, 22 y con los siete: ninguno tuvo descendencia de aquella mujer, que fue la última de todos en morir. 23 Así, pues, en la resurrección, cuando todos resuciten, ¿de cuál de ellos será esposa, si los siete estuvieron casados con ella?

24 Jesús les dijo:

— Ustedes están en esto muy equivocados al no conocer las Escrituras ni tener idea del poder de Dios. 25 En la resurrección ya no habrá matrimonios, sino que todos serán como los ángeles que están en los cielos. 26 En cuanto a que los muertos han de resucitar, ¿no han leído en el libro de Moisés, en el pasaje de la zarza, lo que Dios le dijo: Yo soy el Dios de Abrahán, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob? 27 Pues bien, él es Dios de vivos y no de muertos. ¡Ustedes están muy equivocados!

El mandamiento principal (Mt 22,34-40; Lc 10,25-28)

28 Uno de los maestros de la ley que había escuchado toda la discusión, al ver lo bien que Jesús les había respondido, se acercó a él y le preguntó:

— ¿Cuál es el primero de todos los mandamientos?

29 Jesús le contestó:

— El primero es: Escucha, Israel : el Señor, nuestro Dios, es el único Señor. 30 Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu inteligencia y con todas tus fuerzas. 31 Y el segundo es : Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. No hay ningún mandamiento mayor que estos.

32 El maestro de la ley contestó a Jesús:

— ¡Muy bien, Maestro! Es cierto lo que dices: Dios es único y no hay otro fuera de él. 33 Y amar a Dios con todo nuestro corazón, con todo nuestro entendimiento y con todas nuestras fuerzas, y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo, vale más que todos los holocaustos y sacrificios. 34 Jesús entonces, viendo que había contestado con sabiduría, le dijo:

— Tú no estás lejos del reino de Dios.

Después de esto, ya nadie se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas.

¿De quién es hijo el Mesías? (Mt 22,41-46; Lc 20,41-44)

35 Jesús estaba enseñando en el Templo e interpelaba a sus oyentes diciendo:

— ¿Cómo es que los maestros de la ley dicen que el Mesías es hijo de David? 36 El propio David afirmó, inspirado por el Espíritu Santo:

Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
“Siéntate a mi derecha
hasta que ponga a tus enemigos
debajo de tus pies”.

37 Pues si el propio David llama Señor al Mesías, ¿cómo puede el Mesías ser hijo suyo?

Y era mucha la gente que disfrutaba escuchando a Jesús.

Contra los maestros de la ley (Mt 23,1-36; Lc 20,45-47)

38 Decía también Jesús en su enseñanza:

— Cuídense de esos maestros de la ley, a quienes les agrada pasear vestidos con ropaje suntuoso, ser saludados en público 39 y ocupar los lugares preferentes en las sinagogas y los primeros puestos en los banquetes. 40 ¡Esos que devoran las haciendas de las viudas, recitando largas oraciones para disimular, recibirán el más severo castigo!

La ofrenda de la viuda (Lc 21,1-4)

41 Estaba Jesús sentado frente al arca de las ofrendas y miraba cómo la gente echaba dinero en ella. Muchos ricos echaban en cantidad. 42 En esto llegó una viuda pobre que echó dos monedas de muy poco valor. 43 Jesús llamó entonces a los discípulos y les dijo:

— Les aseguro que esta viuda pobre ha echado en el arca más que todos los demás. 44 Porque todos los otros echaron lo que les sobraba, pero ella, dentro de su necesidad, ha echado cuanto poseía, todo lo que tenía para vivir.

凶狠的佃户

12 耶稣用比喻对他们说:“有人开辟了一个葡萄园,在四周筑起篱笆,又在园中挖了一个榨酒池,建了一座瞭望台,然后把葡萄园租给佃户,就出远门了。

“到葡萄成熟时,园主派一个奴仆去收取他该得的一份。 那些佃户却捉住那个奴仆,打了他一顿,使他空手而归。

“园主又差另一个奴仆去。这一次,佃户不但侮辱他,还把他打得头破血流。 园主再派一个奴仆前往,他们却把他杀掉了。园主后来派去的人不是挨打,就是被杀。 最后只剩下园主的爱子,园主就派他去,以为那些佃户会尊重他的儿子。 这班佃户却彼此商量说,‘这个就是园主的继承人。来吧!我们杀掉他,产业就归我们了。’

“于是他们抓住他,杀了他,把他抛到葡萄园外。 那么,园主会采取什么行动呢?他必定会来杀掉这些佃户,把葡萄园转给别人。 10 圣经上说,

“‘工匠丢弃的石头已成了房角石。
11 这是主的作为,
在我们看来奇妙莫测。’

你们没有读过这经文吗?”

12 他们听出这比喻是针对他们说的,就想逮捕耶稣,但又害怕百姓,只好先离开了。

纳税给凯撒的问题

13 后来,他们派了几个法利赛人和希律党人到耶稣那里,企图利用祂所说的话设计陷害祂。

14 他们上前对耶稣说:“老师,我们知道你诚实无伪,不看人的情面,因为你不以貌取人,而是按真理传上帝的道。那么,向凯撒纳税对不对呢? 15 我们该不该纳呢?”耶稣看破他们的阴谋,就说:“你们为什么试探我呢?拿一个银币来给我看。”

16 他们就拿来一个银币,耶稣问他们:“上面刻的是谁的像和名号?”

他们说:“凯撒的。”

17 耶稣说:“属于凯撒的东西应该给凯撒,属于上帝的东西应该给上帝。”

他们听了这话,都很惊奇。

论复活

18 撒都该人向来不相信有复活的事,他们来问耶稣: 19 “老师,摩西为我们写下律例,如果一个人死了,遗下妻子,又没有儿女,他的兄弟就当娶嫂嫂,替哥哥传宗接代。 20 有弟兄七人,老大结了婚,没有孩子就死了。 21 二弟把大嫂娶过来,也没有生孩子就死了,三弟也是一样, 22 七个人都没有留下孩子。最后,那女人也死了。 23 那么,到复活的时候,她将是谁的妻子呢?因为七个人都娶过她。”

24 耶稣说:“你们弄错了,因为你们不明白圣经,也不知道上帝的能力。 25 死人复活之后,将不娶也不嫁,就像天上的天使一样。 26 关于死人复活的事,你们没有读过摩西书有关火中荆棘的记载吗?上帝对摩西说,‘我是亚伯拉罕的上帝,以撒的上帝,雅各的上帝。’ 27 上帝不是死人的上帝,而是活人的上帝。你们大错了!”

最大的诫命

28 有一位律法教师听到他们的辩论,觉得耶稣的回答很精彩,就走过去问道:“诫命中哪一条最重要呢?”

29 耶稣回答道:“最重要的诫命是,‘听啊,以色列!主——我们的上帝是独一的主。 30 你要全心、全情、全意、全力爱主——你的上帝’; 31 其次就是‘要爱邻如己’。再也没有任何诫命比这两条更重要了。”

32 那位律法教师说:“老师,你说的对,上帝只有一位,除祂以外,别无他神。 33 我们要全心、全意、全力爱祂,又要爱邻如己。这样做比献什么祭都好。”

34 耶稣见他答得很有智慧,就告诉他:“你离上帝的国不远了。”此后,没人再敢问耶稣问题了。

基督的身份

35 耶稣在圣殿里教导的时候,问道:“律法教师为什么说基督是大卫的后裔呢? 36 大卫自己曾经受圣灵的感动,说,

“‘主对我主说,
你坐在我的右边,
等我使你的仇敌伏在你脚下。’

37 既然大卫自己称基督为主,基督又怎能是大卫的后裔呢?”百姓听得津津有味。 38 耶稣又教导他们,说:“你们要提防律法教师,他们爱穿着长袍招摇过市,喜欢人们在大街上问候他们, 39 又喜欢会堂里的上座和宴席中的首位。 40 他们侵吞寡妇的财产,还假意做冗长的祷告。这种人必受到更严厉的惩罚。”

穷寡妇的奉献

41 然后,耶稣走到圣殿的奉献箱对面坐下,看大家怎样奉献。很多财主奉献了大量的钱。 42 后来一个穷寡妇来了,投进了相当于一文钱的两个小铜钱。 43 耶稣叫门徒来,说:“我实在告诉你们,这位穷寡妇比其他人奉献的都多, 44 因为他们不过奉献了自己剩余的,但这穷寡妇却奉献了她赖以为生的。”
