³⁷ David himself calls him Lord. So ^(A)how is he his son?” And the great throng ^(B)heard him gladly.

³ concerning his Son, ^(A)who was descended from David^{[a] (B)}according to the flesh ⁴ and ^(C)was declared to be the Son of God ^(D)in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

^16 (A)“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things ^(B)for the churches. I am ^(C)the root and ^(D)the descendant of David, ^(E)the bright morning star.”

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, ^(A)has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be ^(B)rich in faith and heirs of ^(C)the kingdom, ^(D)which he has promised to those who love him?

¹⁶ Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness:

⁵ To them belong ^(A)the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, ^(B)who is God over all, ^(C)blessed forever. Amen.

The Plot to Kill Lazarus

⁹ When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus^[a] was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, ^(A)whom he had raised from the dead.

⁴⁶ The officers answered, ^(A)“No one ever spoke like this man!” ⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, ^(B)“Have you also been deceived? ^48 (C)Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”

³⁸ And early in the morning ^(A)all the people came to him in the temple to hear him.
