Mark 12:34-40

³⁴And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” ^(A)And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Whose Son Is the Christ?

³⁵^(B)And as ^(C)Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that ^(D)the Christ is the son of David? ³⁶David himself, ^(E)in the Holy Spirit, declared,

^(F)“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies ^(G)under your feet.”’

³⁷David himself calls him Lord. So ^(H)how is he his son?” And the great throng ^(I)heard him gladly.

Beware of the Scribes

³⁸^(J)And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces ³⁹and have the best seats in the synagogues and ^(K)the places of honor at feasts, ⁴⁰^(L)who devour widows' houses and ^(M)for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”
