³¹ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’^[a](A) There is no commandment greater than these.”

Love Fulfills the Law

⁸ Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.^{(A) 9} The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,”^[a](B) and whatever other command there may be, are summed up^(C) in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”^[b](D)

³⁹ And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’^[a](A)

²⁷ He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’^[a];^(A) and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’^[b]”^(B)

¹⁸ “‘Do not seek revenge^(A) or bear a grudge^(B) against anyone among your people,^(C) but love your neighbor^(D) as yourself.^(E) I am the Lord.

⁴ Love is patient,^(A) love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.^{(B) 5} It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,^(C) it is not easily angered,^(D) it keeps no record of wrongs.^{(E) 6} Love does not delight in evil^(F) but rejoices with the truth.^{(G) 7} It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.^(H)

⁸ Love never fails. But where there are prophecies,^(I) they will cease; where there are tongues,^(J) they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

¹² So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,^(A) for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.^(B)

²¹ And he has given us this command:^(A) Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.^(B)

¹⁴ For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”^[a](A)
