¹⁵ Should we pay them, or should we not?” But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why are you putting me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me see it.”

²³ and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am the one who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each of you as your works deserve.^(A)

¹³ And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.^(A)

⁹ We must not put Christ^[a] to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by serpents.^(A)

⁹ Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”^(A)

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.^(A)

²⁴ But Jesus on his part would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people ²⁵ and needed no one to testify about anyone, for he himself knew what was in everyone.^(A)

²³ But he perceived their craftiness and said to them,

² Some,^[a] testing him, asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”

¹⁸ But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites?
