⁷ When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it.

³⁵ They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. ³⁶ As he went along, people spread their cloaks^(A) on the road.

The Coming of Zion’s King

⁷ They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. ⁸ A very large crowd spread their cloaks^(A) on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

⁴ This took place to fulfill^(A) what was spoken through the prophet:

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King^(A)

¹² The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. ¹³ They took palm branches^(B) and went out to meet him, shouting,

¹⁴ Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

¹⁶ At first his disciples did not understand all this.^(F) Only after Jesus was glorified^(G) did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

¹³ They quickly took their cloaks and spread^(A) them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet^(B) and shouted, “Jehu is king!”
