The Rich Man
17 As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother.’” 20 He said to him, “Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth.” 21 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money[a] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” 22 When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.
23 Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how hard it is[b] to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 They were greatly astounded and said to one another,[c] “Then who can be saved?” 27 Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.”

17 (A)Mentre Gesù usciva per la via, un tale accorse e, inginocchiatosi davanti a lui, gli domandò: «Maestro buono, che cosa devo fare per ereditare la vita eterna?» 18 Gesù gli disse: «Perché mi chiami buono? Nessuno è buono, tranne uno solo, cioè Dio. 19 Tu sai i comandamenti: “Non uccidere; non commettere adulterio; non rubare; non dire falsa testimonianza; non frodare nessuno; onora tuo padre e tua madre”[a]». 20 Ed egli [, rispondendo,] gli disse: «Maestro, tutte queste cose le ho osservate fin dalla mia gioventù». 21 Gesù, guardatolo, l’amò e gli disse: «Una cosa ti manca! Va’, vendi tutto ciò che hai e dàllo ai poveri, e avrai un tesoro in cielo; poi vieni [, prendi la croce] e seguimi». 22 Ma egli, rattristato da quella parola, se ne andò dolente perché aveva molti beni. 23 Gesù, guardatosi attorno, disse ai suoi discepoli: «Quanto difficilmente coloro che hanno delle ricchezze entreranno nel regno di Dio!» 24 I discepoli si stupirono di queste sue parole. E Gesù replicò loro: «Figlioli, quanto è difficile [per quelli che confidano nelle ricchezze] entrare nel regno di Dio! 25 È più facile per un cammello passare attraverso la cruna di un ago, che per un ricco entrare nel regno di Dio». 26 Ed essi, sempre più stupiti, dicevano tra di loro: «Chi dunque può essere salvato?» 27 [Ma] Gesù fissò lo sguardo su di loro e disse: «Agli uomini è impossibile, ma non a Dio; perché ogni cosa è possibile a Dio».

17 Und als er auf den Weg hinausging, lief einer herzu, fiel vor ihm auf die Knie und fragte ihn: Guter Meister, was soll ich tun, um das ewige Leben zu erben?
18 Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Was nennst du mich gut? Niemand ist gut als Gott allein!
19 Du kennst die Gebote: »Du sollst nicht ehebrechen! Du sollst nicht töten! Du sollst nicht stehlen! Du sollst nicht falsches Zeugnis reden! Du sollst nicht rauben! Du sollst deinen Vater und deine Mutter ehren!«[a]
20 Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Meister, das alles habe ich gehalten von meiner Jugend an.
21 Da blickte ihn Jesus an und gewann ihn lieb und sprach zu ihm: Eines fehlt dir! Geh hin, verkaufe alles, was du hast, und gib es den Armen, so wirst du einen Schatz im Himmel haben; und komm, nimm das Kreuz auf dich und folge mir nach!
22 Er aber wurde traurig über dieses Wort und ging betrübt davon; denn er hatte viele Güter.
23 Da blickte Jesus umher und sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Wie schwer werden die Reichen in das Reich Gottes eingehen!
24 Die Jünger aber erstaunten über seine Worte. Da begann Jesus wiederum und sprach zu ihnen: Kinder, wie schwer ist es für die, welche ihr Vertrauen auf Reichtum setzen, in das Reich Gottes hineinzukommen!
25 Es ist leichter, dass ein Kamel durch das Nadelöhr geht, als dass ein Reicher in das Reich Gottes hineinkommt.
26 Sie aber entsetzten sich sehr und sprachen untereinander: Wer kann dann überhaupt errettet werden?
27 Jesus aber blickte sie an und sprach: Bei den Menschen ist es unmöglich, aber nicht bei Gott! Denn bei Gott sind alle Dinge möglich.

17 Jézus már útnak indult, amikor egy férfi odafutott hozzá, térdre borult előtte, és megkérdezte: „Jó Mester! Mit kell tennem, hogy örök életet kapjak?”
18 Jézus így válaszolt: „Miért mondasz engem jónak? Egyedül csak Isten jó. 19 Ismered a Törvény parancsait: Ne gyilkolj! Ne kövess el házasságtörést! Ne lopj! Ne tanúskodj hamisan! Ne csalj! Tiszteld apádat és anyádat!”[a]
20 A férfi erre így válaszolt: „Mester, én mindezt megtartottam gyerekkorom óta.”
21 Jézus rátekintett, megkedvelte, és ezt mondta: „Még egy dolog van, amit meg kell tenned. Menj, add el minden vagyonodat, és amit érte kapsz, oszd szét a szegények között! Akkor majd a Mennyben lesz a kincsed. Azután gyere, és kövess engem!”
22 Erre a válaszra a férfi arca elkomorult, és szomorúan elment, mert nagyon gazdag volt.
23 Jézus ekkor végignézett a tanítványain, és ezt mondta nekik: „Milyen nehezen jutnak be Isten Királyságába a gazdagok!”
24 A tanítványok nagyon megdöbbentek ezen. Ő azonban megerősítette: „Gyermekeim, látjátok, milyen nehéz bemenni Isten Királyságába! 25 Még egy tevének is könnyebb átmenni a varrótű fokán, mint egy gazdagnak bejutni Isten Királyságába.”
26 Ezen még jobban elcsodálkoztak, és egymás között azon tanakodtak: „Akkor egyáltalán ki kaphat örök életet?”
27 Jézus rájuk nézett, és ezt válaszolta: „Az emberek számára ez valóban lehetetlen, de Isten számára nem, mert neki minden lehetséges.”

17 Comme il partait, un homme accourut, se jeta à genoux devant lui et lui demanda : Bon Maître, que dois-je faire pour obtenir la vie éternelle ?
18 – Pourquoi m’appelles-tu bon ? lui répondit Jésus. Personne n’est bon, sinon Dieu seul. 19 Tu connais les commandements : Ne commets pas de meurtre ; ne commets pas d’adultère ; ne commets pas de vol ; ne porte pas de faux témoignage ; ne fais de tort à personne ; honore ton père et ta mère[a].
20 – Maître, répondit l’homme, tout cela je l’ai appliqué depuis ma jeunesse.
21 Jésus posa sur cet homme un regard plein d’amour et lui dit : Il ne te manque qu’une chose : va, vends tout ce que tu possèdes, donne le produit de la vente aux pauvres et tu auras un trésor dans le ciel. Puis viens et suis-moi !
22 En entendant ces paroles, l’homme s’assombrit et s’en alla tout triste, car il était très riche.
23 Jésus parcourut du regard le cercle de ses disciples, puis il leur dit : Qu’il est difficile à ceux qui ont des richesses d’entrer dans le royaume de Dieu !
24 Cette parole les surprit, mais Jésus insista : Oui, mes enfants, qu’il est difficile[b] d’entrer dans le royaume de Dieu. 25 Il est plus facile à un chameau de passer par le trou d’une aiguille qu’à un riche d’entrer dans le royaume de Dieu !
26 Les disciples furent encore plus étonnés, et ils se demandaient entre eux : Mais alors, qui peut être sauvé ?
27 Jésus les regarda et leur dit : Aux hommes c’est impossible, mais non à Dieu. Car tout est possible à Dieu.
